The set up of the hotel was great. The bed was comfortable and the room was spacious. We had a room with private pool which is an excellent feature. The bar staff were very friendly and always offered a service with a smile. However, we were a little disappointed with some aspects of the accommodation which we wouldn’t expect from a 4* hotel; 1. When we arrived it was almost midnight which was a little later than expected but not an issue. We hoped there may have been some complimentary water in the mini fridge given the time of night but there were no drinks in the room. The hotel bars were shut and when asked about the hotel shop at reception (and advising we would like water) we were told the shop was closed and this left us having to go out and find a nearby shop ( which was just about to close) rather than being able to immediately settle into our room given the time of day. I would expect some water in the fridge as standard from a 4* hotel, even more so for late arrivals and would have also been happy to have been charged for this. 2. The weather was hotter than usual for this time of year and upon checking in the room was very warm. The air conditioning unit was set to 16 degrees but was only blowing out slightly cool air. This was definitely not working as it should and the room was uncomfortably hot. We advised reception who said it was too late and that if it was still like this the following morning they would look at it. We asked for a fan and they gave us the desk fan from reception which was helpful. The next morning we went for breakfast and were only 20 mins, following this we spoke to reception to advise that the air conditioning was no better. We were told that whilst we were having breakfast they had sent someone to fix it. We returned to our room to find this was not the case so another trip to reception was had. We were then advised to turn the air conditioning up as it works better on a higher temperature which is ridiculous however we did try it to show again that it was not working. They again said they would send someone. We then then got a call to the room to ask us to return the fan since the issue had been resolved and I again advised that it was no better. At this point outside temperatures were 38C and therefore the room was uncomfortably hot. A maintenance person did then visit and agreed the air conditioning needed refilled. We then later retuned to the room to see they had came in and replaced the air conditioning remote and removed the desk fan. At this point we just made peace with this was the best the air conditioning would get. We also heard other people complaining about the air conditioning when passing reception. 3. The rooms are very spacious and we had a pool room which was amazing to have a private pool and private outside seating area. The pool is also a very good size and we loved this feature of the room. There are 10 rooms with private pools and all pool water is shared between the rooms. The rooms are cleaned daily but we were disappointed that the pools were not cleaned nor the outside seating area, we also observed the balcony above us being cleaned by staff and the debris being swept onto our seating area. We often found clumps of other people’s hair from the other pools and general dirt floating in our pool and had to flick this out of the pool ourselves. The rooms are cleaned daily however our room was the sixth room to get cleaned which wasn’t an issue but we noticed after cleaning, the room did not smell very nice. On the last day we were in the room when it was being cleaned and noticed the mop bucket water was extremely dirty and smelly and it appears water doesnt get changed between rooms, which would explain the smell in our room after cleaning. In my view this falls below standard expectations in respect of hygiene and cleanliness. 4. Although food was repetitive there was a quite a bit on offer but by day 5/6 we found we were a little sick of what was there to eat. However, the food on offer had lots of taste and was cooked well. We had a lovely holiday for our first visit to Zante. There were lots of positive aspects to our stay as mentioned above but based on my experience during this stay, I felt the 4-star rating was generous given the number of issues encountered.

Although we booked all inclusive, we never made it back often enough for the all inclusive buffet to comment on that too much (also being so much to do about the island for our short 4 night trip), however I did enjoy the breakfast even though mostly hungover, I did make for for dinner twice which were both good. We did make the pool bar every evening which is more convenient when you are too busy in the day. Staff were also friendly, bed made for us on our return every day, didn't need to be done but were greatful! bins also were emptied daily. Rooms were clean and the aircon was a godsend when you need to escape the heat, was a very hot few days. Close to the main strip and plenty of shops/restaurants and bars close by, was sad to leave we had such an amazing time. If we decide to have another trip to Laganas we will for sure be back! Fantastic family holiday made unforgettable by the incredible staff! We had a great stay at the Margarita Hotel in Zante in May. The hotel itself is lovely, but it’s the people who work there that truly make it such a special place. A huge thank you has to go to Safina at the pool bar, who was absolutely incredible with our 3-year-old son, Jacob. They genuinely became best friends during our stay! Every single day Jacob couldn’t wait to see her, and she always welcomed him with the biggest smile. She would let him “serve” his own ice cream, chat with him, and make him feel so important, and bring each other little gifts. (Flowers, sea shells, teddies) The kindness and patience she showed him made our holiday so memorable, and we’ll never forget it. We also have to mention Sylvia in the kitchen, who was equally amazing. Not only was she wonderful with Jacob, letting him come in and watch his chips get done and encouraging him to order for himself, but she also looked after us so well. As vegetarians, she would make my husband and me the most delicious fresh egg and salad sandwiches, which were absolutely fantastic. The food throughout the hotel exceeded our expectations. I often worry about finding enough choice when travelling as a vegetarian, but there was always plenty to enjoy. The salads were especially delicious, and you could genuinely taste the difference knowing much of the produce is grown by the hotel themselves. Everything tasted so fresh and full of flavour. The homemade soups were also excellent. What really stood out was how thoughtful the staff were. On more than one occasion they actually came to find us to ask if we’d like a special vegetarian burger or if there was anything they could prepare especially for us. That level of care and attention went far beyond what we expected and made us feel so valued as guests. We’d also like to give a special mention to Alex and Vicki in the hotel shop. They were always so lovely with Jacob, taking the time to chat with him and making him smile. They would even give him little Chupa Chups lollies, which absolutely made his day and is another example of the genuine kindness shown by everyone at the hotel. Every member of staff we met was friendly, welcoming and genuinely wanted everyone to have the best possible holiday. This is the main reason we’ll remember this trip so fondly.
