Akasha Beach Hotel & Spa

We have just returned from a one-week stay at Akasha Beach Hotel with our 6-month-old baby. First of all, the hotel itself is absolutely beautiful. It’s incredibly aesthetically pleasing, modern, and immaculate throughout. We paid extra for a sea view room, which was lovely and definitely worth it. There were also plenty of shaded areas around the pool, which made it perfect for us travelling with a young baby. A cot was provided with sheets, blankets and a few thoughtful extras, which was a really nice touch. The bed itself was comfortable, but the pillows were honestly the flattest pillows I’ve ever slept on. They offered very little support and made it difficult to get a comfortable night’s sleep. However, having stayed in many luxury 5-star hotels around the world, including Fairmont and W Hotels, I personally don’t feel this hotel meets the standard of a true 5-star resort. The biggest disappointment was the food. We booked half board (breakfast and dinner), but after the first couple of meals we ended up eating out every evening. The food was nowhere near the standard you would expect from a luxury hotel. It was bland, repetitive, often lukewarm and lacked both quality and variety. There were no à la carte restaurants or bookable dining options, only the same buffet each day. We genuinely couldn’t bring ourselves to eat there after the first day and chose to spend extra money eating elsewhere for the rest of our holiday. It honestly felt more like 3-star buffet food than anything you would expect from a 5-star resort. The drinks were also ridiculously expensive if you weren’t booked all inclusive, making it feel as though guests were being penalised for choosing half board. Another thing that surprised us was that there wasn’t even a minibar in the room. While this isn’t the biggest issue, it’s another feature you’d generally expect as standard in a hotel advertising itself as a luxury 5-star resort. The room service was another disappointment. While it was available, the hotel charged an additional €15 delivery fee on top of the cost of the food for every single order. If you ordered food and then later wanted to order drinks or dessert separately, you were charged another €15 each time. We found this completely excessive, especially for a hotel advertising itself as a 5-star resort. At this level, we’d expect room service to be a standard convenience rather than something with such a significant surcharge. When we arrived, we asked whether there were any room upgrades available and were quoted an additional €1,000, despite the same upgrade being advertised through our travel company for around £500. The difference in price was surprising and felt difficult to justify. That said, midway through our stay the hotel kindly upgraded us to the room we had originally wanted at no extra cost. We genuinely appreciated this gesture, and it was a lovely touch that improved our overall experience. Credit where it’s due, this was a thoughtful decision by the hotel and something we were very grateful for. The staff were all friendly and polite, but the service wasn’t particularly attentive or proactive in the way you’d expect from a genuine luxury resort. There was nothing wrong with the staff themselves, but the overall level of service didn’t match the hotel’s 5-star rating. There were some lovely touches for families travelling with babies, such as the cot being fully made up with bedding and blankets ready for our arrival, and the shaded pool areas made it easy to spend time outside comfortably with our little one. These details were appreciated and showed some thought had gone into accommodating families. Overall, the hotel looks incredible and photographs beautifully, which is probably its biggest selling point. If you’re looking for somewhere modern with stylish rooms and a lovely pool area, you’ll probably enjoy it. However, if you’re booking expecting the food, service and facilities normally associated with a genuine 5-star hotel, I think you’ll be disappointed. For us, the appearance of the hotel simply couldn’t make up for everything else it lacked. Between the poor-quality food, expensive drinks, the lack of a minibar, excessive room service charges, the surprisingly expensive room upgrade quote on arrival, uncomfortable pillows and service that fell short of expectations, it didn’t deliver the luxury experience we had paid for. I’d personally rate it as a 3-star experience rather than a genuine 5-star resort. We still made some wonderful family memories during our holiday, but they were made despite the hotel rather than because of it. Sadly, we wouldn’t return, and I don’t feel the hotel offers value for the price it charges.

holiday! I recently stayed at the hotel for a five-day vacation, and everything was truly wonderful from start to finish. One of the absolute highlights was the drinks—they are simply fantastic. I also loved that I never had to stress about finding a sun lounger; there was always one available whenever I wanted to relax by the pool or beach. The best bar for a good sunbeds is atmosphere bar.On top of that, having access to a fresh, clean towel whenever needed made the experience even more seamless and relaxing. I had an amazing time and couldn't have asked for a better getaway. Highly recommended!
