Melrose by Mage Hotels

I stayed at the Melrose Hotel in Rethymno, Crete, from 28 May to 1 June 2026, during a work trip, and we had a very pleasant stay. The hotel is beautiful, welcoming, and very well designed. The hall and common areas are particularly pleasant and functional, with indoor and outdoor spaces nicely connected, making it easy to relax, have breakfast, or even work in a comfortable atmosphere. The location is excellent: the sea is just about 20 metres away, and the surrounding area is very well served by good restaurants and cafés. Breakfast was abundant and carefully prepared, with a cook preparing fresh hot dishes, from poached eggs to pancakes. The fruit selection was excellent, and there were also many options for vegetarians and vegans, including a rich variety of seeds and healthy choices. The outdoor pool area was very pleasant and well served by an excellent bar; we especially enjoyed the smoothies by the pool. The indoor pool was also beautiful and welcoming, with hydromassage and sunbeds, and it remained open until 9 p.m. Our room was spacious, bright, and sunny, with a sea view. It had two separate areas: a bedroom and a sitting area with a desk, an armchair, a bar corner, and an espresso machine. This layout was very practical, especially during a work trip. The mattress was excellent, with a very comfortable topper. The bathroom was large, bright, and spacious, with a hydromassage bathtub and an excellent supply of towels, bathrobes, and amenities. The staff were excellent: always kind, helpful, and genuinely committed to making our stay as comfortable as possible. For instance, they kindly opened the gym a little earlier so that we could train before leaving for work. The Melrose Hotel is an excellent choice: comfortable, elegant, functional, and very welcoming. I felt very well looked after throughout our stay. Thank you for everything.

We had a wonderful stay at Melrose Hotel. The location was excellent, just a two-minute walk to the main high street and the beach, which made getting around really easy and convenient. We were also pleasantly surprised to find a complimentary bottle of wine and a small bottle of Raki waiting in our room, which was a really thoughtful touch and made our stay feel extra special. The hotel was very clean and well maintained, with a modern feel throughout. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice each morning. What really stood out was the staff. Everyone, from the front desk team to the breakfast and dinner staff, was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and always willing to help. Their service made our stay even more enjoyable. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Crete.

The hotel is in a very good location, easy to reach, close to the beach, coastal restaurants, and just a 10-minute walk to the old town. The staff is nice and very helpful! Check-in and check-out went very smoothly. The hotel is characterized by cleanliness, both in the public areas and in the room. The room was cleaned daily and it was always as if we had bought the room that day. The food was of high quality and very tasty and plentiful. I tried the coffee at the bar, and I can still feel that aromatic taste in my mouth.

Absolutely loved our stay at Melrose :) Everything - the location, the rooms, the service and the food - was exactly as advertised and we had an amazing time there. Would go again anytime ;)

This lovely hotel is definitely worth all these good reviews . It is not a luxurious one, but very pleasant, clean, well located and overall comfortable hotel with a very good location, just off the boulevard and the beach. There are plenty of restaurants, shops, cafes nearby ,so that makes it very convenient too. The old town is within walking distance as well ( approximately 12-15 minutes ). The hotel itself has very modern and clean design, we had Junior suite and the room was pretty spacious with a lovely balcony where you can seat and enjoy coffee or something else. The amenities in the room are good, there was a welcome gift in the fridge - a bottle of local wine, and a little carafe of rakia… Very nice gesture by the management. The cleaning staff is polite and efficient too. The breakfast might be not the most extensive, but the quality of the products is very good and no one will be hungry for sure. The ladies working here are very pleasant , always with the smiles on their faces, and always rushing to you to fill your coffee cup, or clean your plates. The pool is of a good size ( unfortunately we did not try it, so can’t say how warm it is ) . The little spa is lovely and my husband was very satisfied with the quality of his massage ( I did not try it myself unfortunately). The manager, Konstantinos, If I remember correctly ,is a very pleasant and helpful person. He helped us to book a taxi and was very kind overall. Definetely very good hotel for a very good value for money. I would not hesitate to stay here again or to recommend it to others,
