La Marquise

Writing this on our last day of our 2 week stay here. We are an older couple in our 60’s staying in the adults area in a direct pool access junior suite. The room is large with a king sized bed, bathroom with 2 sinks, bath with shower over it, a separate toilet and shower. There is a sofa bed and plenty of storage, although never enough hangers. Our terrace leads straight out to the pool side with our dedicated sun beds right out side. All the sun beds seem to be in the sun all day and our terrace was in the shade for some much needed respite from the hot sun. There are 2 pools and a pool bar, big shout out to Carolos, the waiter who worked hard all day serving drinks. Our room type also meant we got the black card. The main buffet did breakfast, lunch and evening meal. All the food was well prepared and presented with a good choice. The meats especially were very good, always nice and tender and tasty, a testament to the chefs and the quality of the meats and produce that they were using. Warning, men have to wear long trousers in the buffet in the evening, but strangely not in the al a carts where tailored knee length shorts are allowed There are 4 à la carts, the Gondola restaurant for lunch and it becomes the Grill in the evening, and on the 3rd floor, the Asian and Le toile. Le toile is a fine dining restaurant, we only went once and not really to our liking. The Asian was very nice both times we went. Lunch at the Gondola was really nice, but all 3 courses were large and you won’t feel hungry again that day, the same can be said for the Grill for evening meal. The black card meant that for every 7 days stay we could eat once at the gondola and twice at the others. The black card also means that we can go to Le toile for breakfast every day, we really liked it there, no hustle and bustle of the main restaurant, nice and quiet, quick service for your drinks, they remember what you usually have after a couple of days, you order your eggs if you want them then help your self to bacon and sausage ect from the buffet area, a great start to the day. There are 2 main bars, the crystal lounge bar in the lobby area and the Luna bar on the roof. The stage for the shows is up there too but most of the time the show was downstairs. We asked on of the waiters why this was and he said it was because they were short staffed and didn’t have enough people to man both bars, the service was quite slow at times. They have 4 shows on each week, ABBA tribute, the Jersey boys tribute and Boney M tribute, all very good and a Greek classic music night, not much on the other 3 nights, a pianist in the lobby bar a couple of nights, nothing on a Sunday. I can’t say much about the family section, we walked around a couple of times, it looks really nice with plenty of sun beds, they have water aerobics and water polo there but we didn’t go. They have a kids club with a program of events but nothing for teenagers. The beach looks nice but you have to pay for everything in the beach bar even if you’re all inclusive. All the staff are friendly and happy to help, the grounds are immaculate and the cleaners did a good job. Negative points, not really,could do with more evening entertainment perhaps. Bring towel pegs, it can be windy. It has been a very nice relaxing holiday and will definitely consider coming again.

La Marquise Hotel, Rhodes The hotel is large, luxurious, and spread across a vast area, but it feels outdated. The air conditioning was not cool enough in either the public areas or the guest rooms. There was no electrical outlet in the bathroom. Although the hotel provides golf carts to transport guests around the property, they were not available often enough. We booked an all-inclusive vacation, expecting food, drinks, and alcoholic beverages to be included. In reality, the package only covered meals served in the main dining room during fixed and rather restrictive meal times. The hotel has four restaurants, but they are not included in the all-inclusive package. They are only available for an additional charge, or if you book a stay of at least seven nights. There was also a café, but it was only open for a few hours each day. The hotel bars served drinks only, and not all beverages were included. For example, Corona beer, which is suitable for someone with a gluten allergy, was not included. One of us has a gluten sensitivity, and we informed the hotel about this in advance. The beach is located a few minutes’ walk away, across the road. The beach bar, inflatable water playground, and water sports were not included in the package. To enjoy water or alcoholic drinks at the beach, we had to bring them ourselves from the hotel bar. Access to the sauna was not included and cost €10 per person per hour. Every time we used a service, took a bottle of water, or entered a facility, we were required to provide our room number, and sometimes even present a code that the staff had to scan before providing the service. This could have been handled much more conveniently with a wristband for each guest. Above all, the staff’s attitude was disappointing. Their service ranged from indifferent and lazy to openly unfriendly. It was rare to encounter someone who was genuinely pleasant and helpful.

We stayed here for two weeks in the adult section so this review is from that perspective. Aesthetically the hotel is beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff were all brilliant. Everyone was friendly and helpful. There are carts just outside reception that take you pretty much anywhere on the resort and to the beach if required. The food in all the restaurants was excellent. We had the black card which entitled us to use three a la carte restaurants twice per week. We were also entitled to a lunch once per week in the Gondola pool bar/restaurant and we could also use the a la carte buffet for breakfast on the third floor for black card holders only. This was a real advantage to have because although the food in the main buffet was excellent it could get monotonous if used every day. However, for families with children the main buffet was superb. There is even a section for children with things like chicken nuggets etc. The food here was plentiful and presented beautifully and items were replenished regularly. The rooms are large and the cleaning service was very good. The service in all the bars was fantastic especially in the Azzurro pool bar. The bartender there was very professional and friendly and kept the whole area clean and tidy. There are, however, a few things that could be improved upon: The beach is not the best. Loungers are comfortable albeit a bit old. The sand is what I can only describe as likened to fine dirt and dust. There was rubbish left from the day before ie empty cans of drinks. It’s a shame that the beach bar/restaurant isn’t included in the all inclusive package. The entertainment isn’t very consistent but Jersey Boys were fantastic. Around the two pools in the adults section there are well spaced out loungers. However, many of these loungers are the “property” of the ground floor rooms which were previously paid for by the occupants of said ground floor rooms as part of their package. This made for a few arguments around the pool when people inadvertently sat on those loungers and were asked to move. These loungers need to have a reserved sign on them with the room number to which they belong so it is clear to unsuspecting guests where they can and can’t sit. I witnessed four occasions where people were moved on. It’s embarrassing for all involved. In short this is a fabulous hotel and I would have no hesitation in returning.

From the initial kerb appeal as you compare to the high rise hotels opposite, from when you walk into the foyer for the first time, from when you go into your room from the first to the last time when you leave, this hotel is just wow. Went All Inclusive in the adults only area. Food was great, we actually preferred the choices of the buffet as found the a-la-cart menus restricted. Drink quality did vary depending on who made it, but never a problem to request something different. Highlight for us was the coffee shop with cakes to die for which was included in the AI. Taxi was €24 to the old town which was worth a visit. Staff were all great, from the cleaners to the porters to the waiters to the bar staff to reception.
