Best Western Grand Hotel Guinigi

Hotel was part of tour group Riviera , too far from the centre , bar not open til 5pm , had to get a taxi there and back to town as nothing to do in hotel tbh

We had a lovely relaxing stay here whilst visiting Tuscany. It's a good 25 minute walk to town but tge no 6 bus stops outside which is handy and buses are every half an hr although the last bus back is 8pm. There are not any restaurants located near apart from Pizzeria so we ate at the hotel a couple of times as we didn't want to go back to town again. The hotel is lovely and clean and the room was very spacious with a big bathroom and tge bed was very comfortable. We had no complaints at all . There was free water refill for bottles in the lobby area and the bar service was good with prices not bad fir a hotel. Breakfast was the usual hot and cold with a good choice and everything was fresh and topped up well so nothing was lacking. Would recommend just be mindful its out of town.

The room is large and had bath tub under shower , a shower head v good but tricky to use . The air conditioning was freezing so turned off overnight . The breakfast was poor , basic cereal but no fresh fruit but lots of cakes if you want that at breakfast. You can’t easily get into Lucca as it’s a long walk into the walls , so stay closer in.

Fairly standard hotel with plain decor, but completely acceptable. Seems to be favoured by coach groups, a couple arriving every night we were there. Rooms are of a reasonable size, WiFi is good and Aircon efficient (you have to ask to not have it automatically turn off at night). The hotel is a good 25-30 minute walk from the centre of Lucca. For breakfast there was the usual selection of cold options, but the "hot" food varied from tepid at 7am to stone cold by 7:30. Items that run out are only replaced slowly. Staff were all pleasant and approachable.

As usual when you follow any tour groups they normally can only house you in the hotels which accept groups. It all depends on the price you pay but it is understandable that it is not the normal high end hotels even when you book it for those reasons. This is because groups are happy and noisy people who love to chat without care of volume in their voices. I am as guilty as this too at times. But when we are in an environment that is polite, we know how to adjust it accordingly. This hotel that we stayed was pretty far from the vicinity of getting anything. It is a nice hotel with clean environment and quiet. Friendly staff and accommodating people. The rooms are nice and clean. They have water dispensers for us to fill up our containers even though the rooms only provide two bottles even though we paid for triple room. The bartender is a lovely man and assisted us politely. Besides the location, it is a good place to stay for one night.
