Riu Cancun

I first came march 2024 for a week and loved my entire visit. This time around I was not disappointed. The staff, our rooms and food were excellent. The entertainment staff was so fun and super engaged with guests. Marco really made a difference with the stretch classes and water aerobics. I had been struggling with a lower back issue for a month and he took extra time to show me what I needed to do which allowed a better vacation. The pool games and dancing by Angel,Paola,dawna,Luna,Kevin,Ceasar and many others was amazing. Thank you for all you do and I will absolutely be back. Maybe longer than 10 days next time👏margie

Great location near shops and bars and transport to other places, lovely beach too with sun loungers to use. The Atmosphere was quite vibrant and leaned more towards a party kind of vibe in most parts of the hotel due to it being spring break, however there were 2 bars that felt quite relaxed and quiter. Our room was clean and well stocked but could definitely do with some work being done on it, the mirrors were marked and chipping off, the tiles had marks on also, most of the furniture looked as if it all had been hit or damaged over and over again, but given that the room was the exact same as our previous stay 9 years ago it is not suprising. For the food and drinks, the pools and bars and the fridges in rooms being restocked and cleanliness, i would say it is good value for money, the restaurants were great with a good selection of food for everybody. The noise level was very disappointing, the hotel advises guests to keep noise down after 22.00, but this was not the case atall, we had a room on the second floor and on various nights we heard groups of people screaming and shouting none stop on and off from 0100-0600 , no regard atall for other guests and nobody telling them to keep the noise down, as it felt like a spring break party hotel most days this is expected to a degree but it was every night for 14 nights so every sleep was broken. If you actually want to relax on holiday and get a decent sleep id definitely recommend a higher floor away from the screaming happening in the lobby and the first 2 flights of stairs. The staff were exceptional, they were all so friendly and professional and couldnt do enough for us, the housekeepers always done a great clean of our room and staff always restocked the fridge when asked, bar staff remember you and what you like to drink and always given friendly service they all made us feel very welcome and taken care off. Id recommend this hotel but maybe rethink if you arnt a big drinker expecting a quiet environment, and definitely avoid the second floor if you want to sleep well.

We wanted to stay at the Riu Cancun as we had been lucky enough to stay there shortly after it opened in '03. We have been to Cancun 16 times but this is our first time repeating a stay. A group of ten joined us the week of 3/28-4/4. We checked in prior to arriving so we were at the front desk for only a few minutes to do the final check in and receive our bracelet.As we arrived at 10:45 am, not all the rooms were ready, which is fine. We changed in the changing room and headed out the the pool area. There are a lot of chairs at the pool area and many umbrellas. We found 2 available chairs quickly. The swim up bar had some outstanding bartenders. It was never more than a couple minutes to receive a drink. The water was uncharacteristically cool, but that didn't disappoint. There is an area near the pool that serves burgers, chicken, hotdogs, and tacos along with nachos, and fries, so you do not have to dry off to eat lunch at the buffet. We found the food pretty good. Be careful not to leave food unattended or simply leave your dish with food on it in the open as the birds will have it in no time. Unfortunately, many either do not know this or don't care, so there are birds hanging around. Some even feed the birds. Please do not do that. The rooms are nice. Nothing special. I believe each room has some sort of sea view. We were on the 5th floor. The elevators were never an issue. We rarely waited for one. The restaurants do not need reservations. As we have a group of 10, we generally arrived at 6:15 or 6:30. We were seated right away. The Steakhouse was good, but they could have used a better cut of meat. The Italian was very good, and you could probably just do the salad bar/buffet without the entree. We also ate at the Japanese restaurant where they have sushi, and the fish/shrimp dish was excellent. The last specialty restaurant was the Kulinarium. I had the creamy rice with lobster (and a few shrimp) that was very tasty. And of course, the selection at the buffet is outstanding. The lobby bar is huge, and again the bartenders work hard to make sure you don't wait long for a drink, and the servers are very attentive. The entertainment is ok, but starts generally after 9. The Sport Bar was a little disappointing. We were there during March Madness but they cannot get the games on their televisions. The location is outstanding as there are many restaurants and farmacias right across the street.

This is the second time staying at a Riu resort. I would highly recommend this resort, as well as the Riu Palace Baja California. I will say that the Cancun resort is smaller than the Palace, and it is very easy to navigate. The Cancun resort could use an update, but the cleanliness, and service were great.
