Riu Latino

I will try to stay as objective as possible in this review, it is a good hotel but not 5 stars. I've been to numerous Riu properties, including the ones down the beach (Dunamar and Palace Costa Mujerer). RIU is known for keeping a steady standard of quality across all their properties. I've never had any issues with them and always recommend them to people looking for a safe bet when choosing a resort. Riu Latino, unfortunately does not meet the Riu standard. At the check in, we were the only people; no one else there. We got our room key and walked to the room, to fomd out that the keys don't work. When I went back to reception, I was told that the keys work, but that the door lock battery was dead. The receptionist saw that immediately. Then how come the first one did not see it. After being g told that someone is on the way to replace the battery immediately, we waited in the hallway for about 45 minutes. Room was great , no complaints there. ( other than apparently toilet paper is a luxury- sometimes you get a roll, sometimes you have to order it and wait). Grounds are well kept, beach well maintained. Restaurants are definitely not up to par with Riu standards. Buffett food seems to be the same every day, with some minimal changes. I observed people leaving stake house as the food was not great. Unfortunately, this trip I had to visit on site 'doctor". Thus is nit a doctor, but maybe a nurse at best. His focus was to take money from people, not really help. (Not able to answer any questions, but rather try to get you to go to a hospital for every little thing. Maybe works on incentive to get business for the hospital). When it comes to service, it's a hit and miss. There are some very pleasant and hard working people that are focused on making your stay pleasurable and comfortable, but there are also a number of them that are there focusing on getting tips, not service. If you are young person looking to spend a whole day in a pool with a swim up bar, while screaming and drinking, this is the place to be. Yes, there are 5 pools, but they are so close to each other that there is no quiet pool. Also, in 2 weeks of staying here I saw one morning, one guy check the filters in the pool. Not much pool cleaning going on. All in all, it's not the worst place i stayed at, but definitely the worst in the Riu family.

Beach - very well maintained - non stop cleaning. Pools - very well organized - if you enjoy party and drinks - lots of entertainment. If you are more laid back, couple of pools that are quiet. Gardens - Beautiful - staff non stop working in them. Amazingly kept Public restrooms - non stop cleaning. Lobby reception area - again spotless. Theatre shows - good variety. White Party, pink party, jungle party - well organized for whoever wants to participate. Service - very hard working teams. Rooms - spotless. Mini fridge - lots of drinks. Restaurants - lots of good variety of food and very tasty. Lots of guests, but never waited on anything. Staff do above and beyond expectations. I can keep going with positive reviews. I just came back from the most amazing 2 weeks holiday from beautiful riu Latino. The hotel was spotlessly clean. There was always a cleaner going around with a mop. The room was always immaculate. The food was amazing both the buffet or any of the 4 restaurants. The entertainment team were lovely people. they always had really good shows for us in the evening. I would really recommend going to this hotel you really wont be disappointed. Thank you all at the rui latino

Loved it here will coming back staff is excellent

We recently stayed at Riu Latino Cancun and honestly, it exceeded our expectations in almost every way. The standout for us was the staff. Every single person we encountered was friendly, attentive, and genuinely seemed to care about the guests’ experience. We had read a few reviews beforehand mentioning slow service, but that couldn’t have been further from what we experienced. Service was consistently quick and efficient, and there were always staff members around maintaining the property. Speaking of which, this was probably the cleanest resort we’ve ever been to. There were constantly people cleaning, and it really showed. Everything felt fresh, well-kept, and organized. The layout of the resort is also a huge plus—everything is close and easy to get to, which makes a big difference when you just want to relax and not walk forever. Our room was spotless, modern, and comfortable, with what seemed like an ocean view (it honestly looked like most rooms had one). The air conditioning worked perfectly, which is always a must in that climate. The food was another highlight. There was a ton of variety, and everything we tried was high quality. There was truly something for everyone, no matter your taste. The sports bar was decent—nothing spectacular—but it had all the basics like sandwiches, burgers, burritos, nachos, and salads. It also gets bonus points for being accommodating enough to put on NHL playoff games without any hassle. We didn’t attend any of the shows, so I can’t comment there. The beach was probably the only area that didn’t fully live up to the rest of the resort—but even then, it wasn’t a dealbreaker. The sand itself was beautiful, but there was sargassum (seaweed), which was a bit of a downside, especially for my wife and our friends. That said, the staff was constantly working to clean it up, and it was manageable. We were still able to go into the water without any real issues, though you’d occasionally run into small patches floating around. I’d rate the beach a 6/10, and that’s purely because of the seaweed—not the resort’s fault. The pools, on the other hand, were fantastic. There are five of them, all with completely different vibes: a water park, a tranquil pool, a lively party pool with a bar, an animation pool with activities like volleyball and water polo, and another quieter bar pool. Plenty of options depending on your mood. I also could see how some people may not like the music and overall ambience. If you were trying to take an afternoon nap, that may prove difficult. If I had to mention one minor inconvenience, it would be the distance from the beach to the nearest bar—it’s about a 5–10 minute walk. Sometimes staff came around with pre-made drinks, but not very often. Overall, we absolutely loved our stay. It’s a well-run, clean, fun resort with amazing staff and great food. I wouldn’t hesitate to go back. Final rating: 9.5/10.
