Sandos Caracol Nature Resort & Water Park

We are Royal elite members so we come to Sandos almost every year. We rotate back and forth between Caracol and Playacar. We did experience a first this year.... Power outages. That is something out of the resorts control as well as ours. I think the staff at the resort did a great job addressing it. I attended a yoga class at the cenote and it was fabulous. We ate at the buffet one morning and had Karla Carrasco as our server. She was very pleasant, always smiling and very helpful. We enjoy seeing familiar faces when we come back. We think the Sandos company is great. They have fantastic activities and shows for everyone. Thank you.

The absolute worst resort I have ever been to, they do not accommodate and tell you no to anything you ask for. The buffet food is terrible and all of the restaurants are fully booked the entire stay and impossible to book reservations for UNLESS you bribe them. The ac in the room dripped water all over the floor, slipped multiple times, nothing was done to fix it. Most of the staff seems annoyed that you're even here. The pools are disgusting, full of bugs, never cleaned. Finding food after 10pm is nearly impossible.

Overall, enjoyable. Decent food, typical shows at night, staff were fairly friendly especially if you make an attempt to be friendly. High points were the cenotes and paths thru the resort while being in the jungle and finding the tunnels that are never mentioned in any of the material I read. Fun having so many animals around. Downside for me and my wife were/was the sports side of things. We like tennis and pickle ball and were excited to try padel for the first time. Issues: too few courts, only one of each and always busy. Equipment in poor condtion esp the padel raquets where the normal grips had deteriorated and repair attempts with tape were a total failure making the raquet handles very, very slippery and therefore hard to even hang onto let alone get a decent grip so one could make a decent shot. Those raquets all need a re-gripping which is quick and inexpensive to do. On the tennis court the overhanging trees need pruning especially in the corner of the court farthest away from the pickle ball court. Sorry, only way i know how to describe! One large limb needs pruning as I hit several lobs into that branch and, of course, lost the point. Similarly in the gym the equipment is old and in fairly poor condition especially for the adjustment side of things. You couldn't adjust some of the machines for different weights or other settings because components were missing. Half the machines are missing the instructions on how to use so those need replacing. You need a gym guy to come in , assess and tune up the whole gym. Do you really need three sets of 40 lb dumbells but no 30 or 35s? It wouldn't take much to bring the gym back to a much better level. None of these things would be very hard to accomplish and without too much cost and would vastly improve the sports experience at the resort. Barry McGuire
