
It was our 4th time here at the Ambar. This trip was the worst in our lives. We arrived Thursday Feb 19, 2026 at 5pm and were in the hospital by Saturday Feb 21, 2026 at approx 7am after being awake since 1am violently sick, both my wife and I. We recognize travelling carries risk of illness and also it can happen in your own country however this has NEVER happened to us on ANY vacation or at home. We both got sick at the same time same symptoms and same degree of severity that we were hospitalized for 5 days. There was no alcohol involved in this illness, we did not have sunburns, we dont have allergies, we did not drink pool or shower or tap water either. We were diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis-bacterial infection and were severely dehydrated. The only dish we consumed together was a shrimp risoto from the buffet. We literally had 1 day of vacation because of this illness as it ruined the entire stay (4 nights 5 days in hospital) and we got discharged with medications to take for a week at home just in time to get our flight the next morning. Without scientific proof this illness came from the buffet/food consumption we are SOL. The resort basically dismissed us and try to say they rolled out the red carpet for us upon returning from the hospital which did not occur. We were provided a bland meal (after asking for it) of chicken rice and vegetables as directed by the doctor as we could not enjoy anything else. The care we received at the Hospiten hospital was wonderful and round the clock. As for the resort and any form of reasonable care or concern was ZERO, basically checked out and move along noone cares they had new guests to welcome. We had a much more detailed and informative review but for some reason trip advisor took it down. I have reached out to trip advisor for an explanation why it was removed and have yet to hear from them. We also noticed on trip advisor someone else had a similar review to ours and the response from the resort was basically a cut and paste version they must send all people who complain as it was basically the same response we received. In short, this can happen anywhere at any resort but with luck if it does happen elsewhere you will be treated like a human not another risk of bad reviews. We cannot confirm the food was origin of this illness but if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck it is likely a duck.....after this experience and over 20G spent going here over the last few years and the way we were treated post illness, will never be back and wish those who do vacation here the same amazing time we once enjoyed on previous trips but also be aware of what can happen and how you can be treated. You will NOT receive any form of resolution and if you are hospitalized, you are technically still occupying a room despite getting sick on the resort. The communication has gone quiet from the resort. We are currently waiting for test results from the hospital to provide to our doctors here in Canada for review but still waiting via email. We were provided a series of meds to take for 7 days after being discharged from the hospital. We have been home since Feb 26 and still continue to recover and experience symptons. What can I say. Just fabulous in every way. Fantastic hotel right on the beautiful beach. Everywhere was spotless and the staff are all absolutely amazing. The food was fantastic too. I have been to a lot of all inclusive hotels and this is right up there in terms of choice and quality. Will most definitely be back very soon.
The service is fantastic everywhere!! Rooms are spacious , new and clean!! The food is very nice with lots of choices!! The drinks are very good!! The beach and ocean are spectacular!! 😃
Excellent service and food was incredible. Great beach and pool area. Room's are very spacious. Highly recommend!
