I’m not a huge beach person so not having one was more then fine with me ..The pools over the ocean were amazing ! I actually found the food over all was pretty good ..The food truck was great for lunch we did both the à la cartes and enjoyed them ..Room was big and clean very easy resort to get around . Lobby bar is small so that would be my biggest complaint . I found the staff really good Daniel and Jermey were both A joy to be around . Would I go back Yes I would and I very rarely say that about resorts ..as I like to try new places

Took a trip to the La Romana area, HM Alma de Bayahibe to be exact, April 26-May 2 2026 We went with Sunwing/WestJet for our first trip to this area, but we have flown into Punta Cana many times. Check-in: As we were the only people on our transfer, check in didn't take too long. The odd thing was there were 2 of us, but were only given one key and were told to come back the next day after 9am to get the second card. And the new card didn't work at first and somehow the first card then messed up. So a bit of an issue (on the last day we couldn't even get into our room before noon to get our bags to check out and had to again to go the front desk. There are bathrooms near the lobby that are multi stall and even showers. Room: We were in room 2514 (5th floor), thankfully, in advance we had requested to ensure we got 2 beds as we were 2 guys that are not a couple lol. The room was quite large, with a lot of wasted space that could have been used for more closet space or chest of drawers as there was a lack of enough space for 2 people to store their clothes, basically had to live out my suitcase which was very inconvenient. We had a nice view of the fountain and courtyard, but the balcony had a high wall, not a railing so we could not sit at the small table as we would be unable to see anything. Hot water was great, as was water pressure. Enough towels which is always handy. Beds were okay, not great but not uncomfortable and there were enough pillows and extra blankets. TV was okay, only 3 English stations, and relied upon the internet, which did cut out quite often. Fridge in our basic room had only 2 small bottles of water, but they were replaced every day. There was NO umbrella, and of course it rained almost everyday for the first 5 days including an almost typhoon that created a quagmire and rivers out of the paths. Elevator in building 2 is quite small :) Bars: Lobby Bar was small, partially covered, opened at 8am, closed at 10pm I believe Pool Bars (10am main one, 11am for snack bar one) - were decent, they have a menu of mixed drinks, including Pina Colada, Coco Loco, Sex on the Beach, etc, sodas, and beer. If the drink comes from a slushie machine, it has no alcohol until you ask for it Restaurants: Buffet (opened at 7:30-10:30am for breakfast) - was well appointed. Separated sections for bread, desserts, fresh veggies, soups, hot dishes, and a grilling station. However the grilling station area was very congested and there wasn't a clear delineation as to what things/foods were for. Which I felt was not set up well at all. And for coffee they had coffee machines, 2 stations here and 1 in the lobby bar. Was okay, but surprising at the same time, maybe more machines are needed. Italian was good, tons of food, maybe a bit too much but the restaurant locations are right on the water. Dominican was even better, we loved the surf n turf and the pork cracklins Japanese we did not try as it's an all inclusive and we feel that to spend that much more for a meal that should be included wasn't right and not worth the high cost. Snack Bar - was buffet style, mainly fried foods and pizza. Opened at 11am (as was the bar part) closed for good at 1am (is closed for a while late at night, forgot what times). America Food truck - felt like 'home' pretty much. Had the fish & chips, chicken wings (twice), beef burger, and steak sandwich. All good and hot. Overall the food was quite nice the way we North Americans like it. Pools: all heated by the sun, so if the weather is cool the pools will be also. The maintenance people tried to keep the pools as clean as possible but I found all of them were cloudy most of the time and there was always floating debris. There are bathrooms near the pools but all are single stall male/female. Beach: Not a real beach, as there is none, but the loungers/palapas around the 3 saltwater pools are on sand. They could use some more palapas though. Around the non saltwater pool there were loungers and sunbeds, but not enough shade there unfortunately. There is a shuttle to the public beach that starts at 9am, runs to 5:45pm every 30 minutes (free). To rent loungers/umbrellas on the beach you need cash (unsure of the amount sorry). Ocean!! The snorkeling was amazing when the seas weren't too rough. The water is between 10-15 feet (3-5 metres), very clear, and you can see all sorts of fish. People saw sting ray and a barracuda while we were there. I am not that bold and didn't go out that far. But the weather did get choppy at one point and pushed me up against the ladder while trying to egress and smashed a toe on the ladder which curtailed my activities for a few days so be aware of the hazards. Vendors et al: There is a store (open till 11pm), and we did see a vendor on site twice in the week with a good collection of items. But there are a LOT of stores (and cafes, bars, etc within a 10 minute walk from the resort). Entertainment: the schedule that was posted was not really followed, not uncommon for resorts. I did see yoga, once, and almost every day aqua aerobics, and dance lessons once, volleyball twice, darts, sushi making, facial/makeup. But not at the times posted nor the number of times as suggested. Night time was "better" except we were told 9pm and this never happened. The worst was 9:45pm, a tad too late. As to the animation team, the few we encountered seemed nice enough, but as we don't speak Spanish well we were pretty much ignored. Service/Staff: At the bars we found the bartenders very good and attentive. In the buffet it was really hit/miss with attentiveness to get drinks. We were pretty much on our own to get coffee, juice, soda/pop and even water sometimes. Excursion: Saona island with 3 beaches and the "natural" pool we booked through Dominican Emotion down the street for 90$ US cash (in advance, look them up in tripadvisor or Facebook) Bugs: very few, didn't notice any, except at the first beach on Soana island so very happy about that. Weather: overall quite nice, 29 degrees average, cloudy a lot, did get some nasty rain one day Extra Costs: Tamashi (sushi) restaurant, Lobster, some Wine; 10$ deposit to use their beach towels Biggest Con was the amount of smokers on the resort as there was a huge number and this is a huge deterrent, especially as many didn't care where they were (loungers in crowded areas, bar areas, watching shows, and worst of all was IN the lobby bar area that states no smoking). Please feel free to contact us with any questions!
