HM Alma de Bayahibe

We chose this hotel because it’s on the side without sargassum and it didn’t disappoint ! The water is so clear and we could snorkel everyday. If you’re a beach person this might not be for you because there is no direct access to a beach however it’s a 15 minutes walk or you can take the shuttle that leaves every 30 minutes. The atmosphere is nice, I was worried that being an adult only resort would mean non stop partying, however it was the contrary. People are there to enjoy and have some quality time. Our room was spacious and exactly as described. The bed had 4 pillows and a ton of cushions. All common areas were clean and maintained everyday. The staff is a hit or miss ! Some are welcoming and smiling and are happy to help. Some are just plain rude and don’t even respond to a “hola”. Maybe it’s the heat or being super tired. It wasn’t that bad all in all.

A "hotel" with all-inclusive features that I would call a full-board guesthouse. We booked suites at the HM Alma in Bayahibe, but the invoice indicated Whala! Bayahibe, so we were unsure of where we were. The reception staff provided insufficient explanations and assistance. Upon arriving at the suite, we noticed that the TV in the living room didn't work; it turned on but didn't tune to anything, and the remote didn't work. We called for assistance, which never arrived during our stay. The balcony door wouldn't close. There was dirt (which was already there when we checked in) under the bed that wasn't cleaned until we moved the bed so the cleaning staff could see it. There was a dead lizard and two live lizards, one of them quite large. After more than an hour trying to catch them, we asked for help, and the employee who came said it was normal and that they weren't harmful, and that we should go to sleep!!!! We realized it was coming in through the air conditioning ducts, and we told him, and he put a note there! There was even a small live cockroach. We had to find it ourselves. I had to sleep one night in the living room. The next day we managed to get out of there and I could finally rest. My sister's suite (room 5303) has such a hard bed that if you sleep on the floor, you won't feel the difference. We didn't understand the idea of ​​the food truck or other services because they have a price and we weren't sure if they were included or not. The dining room is very hot and if you like to drink coffee/cappuccino/latte or other drinks at breakfast, expect long lines for the two coffee machines. That is, when there are two, because during our stay one was broken. The food is reasonable. Highlights: the transfer to the beach and the friendliness and attentiveness of the driver.

The quality of food serve greatly needs to be improved. The breakfast meats were terrible. The French toast was not even fresh. The juices were weak, and the desserts had no flavor. Need more love to the cooking.

Hotel and the majority of staff were excellent, really good 2 week stay. Food was very good with an array of options.Very clean, lots of pools and an outdoor jacuzzi. Enjoyable stay although this hotel location was 80% Argentinian on our stay so the entertainment we thought was more geared to them however the staff were very good. WI-Fi worked fine with a few black spots but generally very good. Italian and Dominican restaurants on site were very good.

We were very disappointed with our stay. Unfortunately, the service was far below what we expected. If you don’t speak Spanish, I would honestly not recommend this hotel. We constantly felt ignored and treated differently. It often seemed that Spanish-speaking guests received much better service, while we were left waiting or had to solve everything ourselves. In the restaurants, tables reserved with juice and drinks for Spanish-speaking guests were always occupied, while we had to walk around looking for somewhere to sit. Communication was another major issue. The reception staff spoke very little English, making even simple requests difficult. Every single day we had to go to reception and ask for towels. The room cleaning was poor, and there was always sand in the bed, which made it feel like the bedding had not been properly cleaned. Almost every day there was a new problem that required us to complain. Instead of enjoying our vacation, we spent too much time dealing with issues. The hotel itself has potential, but the poor service, lack of communication in English, and disappointing housekeeping completely ruined our experience. We would not return and cannot recommend this hotel to international guests who do not speak Spanish.
