HM Alma de Bayahibe

Hotel and the majority of staff were excellent, really good 2 week stay. Food was very good with an array of options.Very clean, lots of pools and an outdoor jacuzzi. Enjoyable stay although this hotel location was 80% Argentinian on our stay so the entertainment we thought was more geared to them however the staff were very good. WI-Fi worked fine with a few black spots but generally very good. Italian and Dominican restaurants on site were very good.

We were very disappointed with our stay. Unfortunately, the service was far below what we expected. If you don’t speak Spanish, I would honestly not recommend this hotel. We constantly felt ignored and treated differently. It often seemed that Spanish-speaking guests received much better service, while we were left waiting or had to solve everything ourselves. In the restaurants, tables reserved with juice and drinks for Spanish-speaking guests were always occupied, while we had to walk around looking for somewhere to sit. Communication was another major issue. The reception staff spoke very little English, making even simple requests difficult. Every single day we had to go to reception and ask for towels. The room cleaning was poor, and there was always sand in the bed, which made it feel like the bedding had not been properly cleaned. Almost every day there was a new problem that required us to complain. Instead of enjoying our vacation, we spent too much time dealing with issues. The hotel itself has potential, but the poor service, lack of communication in English, and disappointing housekeeping completely ruined our experience. We would not return and cannot recommend this hotel to international guests who do not speak Spanish.

Both times we stayed at HM Alma de Bayahibe we had the best of times. The staff is great, we loved the drinks specially at the lobby bar. The evening shows were entertaining. They offer themed dinners at the buffet, our favorite was the Dominican, they lack variety when it comes to the desserts but I did like they always had ice cream and fruits. Our first room had some issues that the staff handled as soon as they were informed, the room in our second stay was great. We are already planning a third visit this year.

We loved this hotel! We had a wonderful stay. Our room had an amazing sea view, and the food in the restaurant was delicious. A special mention goes to our lovely waitress, Beatrice — she always greeted us with a smile and remembered all of our requests. Highly recommended!

In all honesty this hotel is not geared up for British people. As you can tell from all the reviews and responses it’s a very Latin American focused place. The language barrier was evident and made things difficult. The staff were really pleasant on the whole, and most worked hard. But the hotel is tired and definitely needs some TLC. Sunbeds are in disrepair, after a few days we knew which to avoid there were a few that were ok. The pools are ok but again would benefit from a bit of work. One day I found part of a glass in one of the pools but no one seemed bothered. All restaurants were open air so offered no respite from the heat. Food was average at best, everything was salty but the Italian was the best option. Drinks were local alcohol and anything decent incurred extra cost. We booked the romantic dinner for a special wedding anniversary, but they messed up and double booked us it was a fiasco from start to finish. We found someone who spoke English and complained. They promised a full refund of what equates to £85 and gave us a bottle of bubbly and a free meal at the pay extra sushi restaurant. We are still waiting for that refund and have been back a week. The sushi restaurant is not just sushi it has another menu too, and was the best meal we had. We went back on our last night a meal for 2 with a decent bottle of wine was around £75 much better than the romantic meal option. It’s not somewhere we would go back to, we would pay a few pounds more and go somewhere better.
