The Leaf Oceanside by Katathani

We visited as a couple for a 2 week stay. We had chosen the Leaf after reading good reviews and we wanted to stay somewhere recommended to celebrate our 10th Wedding Anniversary. We had previously visited Khao Lak but stayed in Bang Niang area which personally we thought was better than Nang Thong area but that's just personal choice. Room: Rooms are very tired and in desperate need of an update, however they were very clean and everything worked. Water daily in the room is good. The bed is very hard but as previous reviews mention you can ask for a topper, which we did and it was fine. Shower is big and spacious but water pressure is really bad. Having visited Thailand several times we were both bitten by mosquitos more times than we ever have before so we were convinced they were in the room as most of mine were on my back. Air con was just about adequate. Grounds and Pool: Grounds are really well kept, plenty of shaded spots to lay and chill on the sunbeds, hotel was full and we always got a bed. The pools like the rooms are very tired and a bit worn and shabby in places. They never got too busy so that was nice. I had a nice massage in the hotel grounds for about £10. Staff: Most staff were friendly and always smiling and happy to help. Some of the staff on reception did not greet us or say hello when entering back into the hotel which is unusual for Thailand. Lek based in reception does a great job in booking excursions and trips for you. Lovely lady. Food: We only ate breakfast and this was average at best. Nothing at all was hot (unless you ordered an omelette) the coffee was cold, the hot chocolate wasn't hot, the hot water for tea was not hot. Every breakfast item was luke warm. Breakfast was served every day until 10am, we would normally go around 9am and by then all the Thai dishes such as noodles were finished and not topped up which is a shame as we would have liked to try these for breakfast. Scrambled eggs were always dry and stuck to the serving dish and the fried eggs were also overcooked and dry. The choice for pastries was limited with no variation each day. We had omelette most days and these were really good. Location: Great location only a 10 minute walk to all the bars and restaurants and a 2 minute stroll to the beach. The beach is lovely but no sunbeds on the beach so take a towel. Lek can organise you a taxi to Posieden Beach which is lovely and has sunbeds, 15 mins in a taxi. The local beach is fine though and a nice stroll a long the waterfront. I have to say despite me emailing the hotel to inform them about our anniversary and them replying to acknowledge it there was no mention of it on our arrival which was a little disappointing as we had chosen the hotel so carefully with that in mind. Just to be wished a happy anniversary would have been lovely but no mention of it during our entire stay. Overall I'd say it's a safe bet hotel but don't expect 4 star standard as I think it may be a little off that especially at the price point we paid. It's a very food 3 star though and still lots of positives to enjoy in a great setting in an amazing country.

Just returned from 2 great weeks at the Oceanleaf. I do not write a lot of reviews but felt compelled to do so to promote the fabulous, warm and friendly customer service we experienced. All the staff, both front of house and behind the scenes, when we met them, were extremely helpful. Special mention for Tong working hard behind the poolside bar, who, as well as serving great cocktails, was always happy to help us with our Thai language skills. A thoroughly enjoyable, relaxing 2 weeks for which we are both very grateful 🙏

Overall we were happy with this hotel, the staff, especially Lek at reception were friendly and helpful. Cleanliness was good, location...although not right on the beach it is only a very short walk away. The letdown sadly was our room location. We were in one of the few rooms right behind the rear of the hotel kitchen. We never slept in after 5.30am as there is a lot of noise from then on..clanging metal carts by the sound of it and loud voices. I gathered from other guests they didn't have the problem elsewhere on the site. Worth noting too that although there are two pools, one far more child friendly than the other, they don't make one of them adults only. Having kids bombing you constantly in the pool isn't great. Would make much more sense to keep them separate.

Sadly it’s our last day today. Have had a lovely 2 weeks staying at the Leaf Oceanside. To us it’s in a perfect location. Quite quiet with a few restaurants nearby and only a 10 minute walk from the main ‘drag’. Lovely beach only 2 minutes walk away with a few beachfront restaurants to the right. Top tips. If you think the mattress is a bit hard for your liking (they generally are in Thailand), ask for a mattress topper to make it softer. We had room 7124 which was ground floor with terrace overlooking the gardens. Perfect. Try the O Cafe round the corner (Green prawn curry is amazing!). Thank you to Tong at the bar who made us very welcome most nights when we had a last drink before going to bed. 😊. All staff on reception always greeted us with a smile and the lady who booked the trips by the front desk was very helpful.

Happy stay stayed at this great hotel for 12 nights booked direct with the hotel we stayed in a cottage room which had all our requirements and was kept clean and tidy by the housekeeper service the grounds and pool were just great breakfast had all the things we needed I would definitely recommend to everyone
