Obzor Beach Resort

Actually, we couldn't really give the maximum rating, because we were first directed to a building where the elevator didn't work and the TV didn't either. If you might not know that the TV worked, then the receptionist should have known that the elevator didn't work. It wasn't even high season, so they couldn't have offered us another room right away. There are little things to complain about, but there are many more positive things. Our rooms (actually both apartments) were very clean. The rooms are spacious. The new apartment we were moved to, had a dream balcony, although the first one was wonderful too. The kitchen is flawless (oh well, the knives in the knife holder in the first apartment were unwashed). A decent fridge, a spacious freezer. Stove and oven. Everything is great. The bed is good, the air conditioning is good, the cleaning ladys are just golden. Yes, this resort is not 4 stars, but a very strong three. As usual, the socket locations are a bit strange, but don't worry. I won't tell you the number of my apartment number two, because I'll go there myself :-) The first one was E102 and had a huge living room, great view. E is also a very quiet building. The in-house shop is very strange. Mostly drinks and snacks. Some very expensive meat products. But decent tomatoes and potatoes. Can not complain about cleanliness or service in this shop but if you are going to cook yourself, take the little walk to Obzor for main products.

We booked this holiday as a 4 star resort. It boasted 4 restaurants, a shuttle bus to town, Evening entertainment and lots more. When we arrived only one restaurant was open, the shuttle bus stopped after the first day, there was no entertainment and the apartment was in need of decoration and quite tatty. We have not had a response from On The Beach

After a few teething problems everything was sorted and fine. I would recommend not coming at the end of season, though. It is so depressing watching the hotel shut down. The staff were, without fail, excellent

Avoid in September. Everything closing or already closed. Nice room but definitely not a 4 star hotel. Food in hotel awful. Do not attempt to buy a meal in the restaurant if your self catering. Felt like a thief when the manager asks for money before you have finished eating. No bill or receipt given and very expensive. Today is the 13th September the gift shop was closed when we got here the busses were running but finished on Friday and the loungers on the beach that you hire have now been stacked up. Had to ask for fresh towels in the room on day 4. To get to the town you can get a taxi for 10 lev or walk along the beach and up through other hotels which is approx a 15/20 min walk.

Our first family holiday in Obzor was chosen after my wife, mother-in-law, and children (6 and 10) visited last year and loved it enough to return. We stayed self-catering, and the hotel experience was excellent. The apartment was clean and comfortable, the air conditioning worked perfectly, and the cleaners kept everything spotless throughout our stay. The pool and beach facilities were fantastic, and staff were always polite and helpful. Food and drink in both the town and hotel were good value, with money going a long way compared to the UK. The view from our apartment was incredible and a real highlight. The only minor drawback was that the sole lift in our block was broken for several days, which wasn’t ideal being on the 4th floor. The town of Obzor is lively and full of many family-friendly things to do. As a well-travelled UK family, we were very comfortable being the only English guests in a hotel (from what we experienced). But did hear a few familiar accents when we wandered around the town. I was not going to raise this, but I feel I need to say my part to help future travellers of make informed choices. As a mixed race couple, I encountered numerous instances of direct racism, both on the beach and in the town, always away from the hotel. These moments left me feeling totally powerless to tackle what I heard time and time again, and they left a very deep mark on what was otherwise a very positive holiday. In the end I restricted myself to just staying in the hotel area.
