Mare Ayia Napa (Atlantica Mare Village Ayia Napa)

At the end of our holiday we looked back and absolutely loved the place, and there are way more positives than negatives, but it could have been been a worse review due to our initial attempts at reserving some of the restaurants. So we arrived at 3pm and were told we could start reserving restaurants 3 hours later, so just after 6pm we started looking. Nothing available first night, which was fine. Nothing available 2nd night, not great. Nothing available 3rd night, not great. Got restaurants on 4th and 5th nights, although not what we wanted, and then nothing available for the next 5 nights. So 2 restaurants for 10 nights. Went to reception to query this and in their defence they passed me to guest relations who managed to fit us in for nights 2 and 3. We then kept looking a few times every day and did manage to book some more. What was really strange though was when we turned up at the restaurants that we had booked there was hardly any other customers there? We put it down to the hotel just opening and perhaps only allowing say 25% occupancy and then increasing it when it reached peak season?? But it was one of the main reasons we booked, to have the choice of going to different restaurants. Some were also closed, again we assume until the hotel got busier? Anyway, to the positives: The room we had was lovely. Big and there was also a welcome drink and fruit left. The shower was amazing, although as with most hotels we stay in, it leaked. Had an easy to use safe. Had mugs in the room, which was a first. All the food, be it in the buffet area or the restaurants, was amazing. All the staff were amazingly friendly. Was really difficult to tip everyone as they were all great. The Finish young lady at the pool bar and the Ukrainian young lady in the Lobby bar were both amazing and were a credit to your hotel. Great waiter/waitress service. Great choice of cocktails. Water refill was good. Gym was good apart from one of the running machines breaking about half way through our holiday and wasn’t fixed before we left. Breakfast was amazing. Also had a guy doing omelettes and fried eggs to order which was good. Fresh orange juice was the best we’ve ever had. You could also have takeaway drinks for when you wanted to just go back to your room. It was early season so not full, but there were no issues at all with getting beds near the pool or sea or seats in any of the buffet meals; no idea what it would be like in peak season though. Had a lovely ice cream parlour. Wi-Fi was good. Now to the things that could definitely be improved: The partitions between our balcony rooms were bizarre. There were slats so you could see all your neighbours, so there was 100% no privacy. We had times when we were sat out on the lovely balcony and we could hear every conversation going and other times when people would come out, see us, and feel uneasy and go back into their rooms. No idea who decided this was a good idea. The mini bar had some drinks in it but was never replenished? The guy who took us to the room and explained everything said it would but then we were told that wasn’t the case. Seemed strange in an all inclusive that this wasn’t done. As mentioned, the shower leaked into the bathroom. Also, all three of the hand wash, shower gel and shampoo were either broken or broke during our stay and at one point, despite asking, we had a couple of days without some of these items. The restaurant booking system definitely needs improving or the hotel needs to be honest and say that you’ve got little chance of booking anything. The hotel had a strange system where in some places you had to give your room number but others you didn’t, despite them all being part of the all inclusive. And a lot of the places had price lists, so you were never sure if you were getting charged for things. Very bizarre. The toilet signs were strange; not really clear what was men/women. No clothes line on the balcony to dry your swim wear etc. There was a lot of noise outside our room as the front door wasn’t built properly to keep the noise out. Cats. They were everywhere. Even when you were eating on the outside parts of the buffet and restaurants. Not very hygienic. There was loads of cat food on the floor around the resort so we assume the hotel are encouraging the cats to stay? Fine if you love cats, but if you are allergic to cats as I am, it was horrible. Why was there only one room in a 5 star hotel showing the football?? Asked a few times if I could watch a match and told yes and then I’d turn up and there would be a few people watching another match. Bizarre. Anyway, as mentioned, am rating it as 5 stars was the hotel did manage to get us into some restaurants and also sorted out the issues we had. The food and drinks and service were all amazing. Would definitely return at this time of year as was quiet.

Other than the fact that we were told by our tour agent that the swim bungalows were adults only, this hotel is second to none. We come to cyprus several times a year and can safely put this in our top 3 hotels. The Mediterranean restaurant was first class and the food was incredible

I have had an amazing time. People are so Friendly. Our room was clean could not have asked for better. There is a lady at,Reception called Nahmeih she went over and beyond for myself and my Daughter. Asking if everything is OK. Is the room OK etc. The most loveliest lady. I hope she never leaves. We will definitely be visiting again especially this Hotel. Thank you so so much for making us feel so welcome.
