Island Hotel Istra

Hotel very clean and staff very friendly and professional . However the breakfast was good the evening meals buffet was tasteless. Lots of choice . Children running around the dining room with people carrying hot plates of food. Not good overall. This was our third visit and wouldn’t go back it was very noisy.

Location was just stunning. Ferry ride to get to and from Rovinj easy and free. No problem at all to nip there and back of an evening. Plus is that you will most likely see dolphins from the boat. 20 mins max. The best part of the hotel for us was the location to private bays with loungers with amazing snorkling, lots and lots of different beautiful fish to see with amazing water clarity and privacy. Anyone complaining abouty the food it mad - it was delicious, healthy and lots of choice. Outside seating was lovely and calm atmosphere. Must do jetski safari, padel boarding hire and bike tour to Pula. We loved every minute and found it very relaxing. Top tip do not stay on the main beach but venture to the second Island round the back to secluded coves and much better snorkling. Rooms are quite small but clean and functional; bed comfortable by hotel standards.

We spend here 3 days with our 12 yo daughter. Hotel is located on the island and you have to use the boat to the land, it goes very often and it is not a problem. Hotel is very nice, clean and very big. Food was great but we booked the breakfast only for the dinner we had to go to the Rovinj since it was very expensive in the hotel. Downside of May booking is that nothing works on the island - no restaurants no bars... Pool was very nice and clean and we use it al lot (closed one) open pool was too cold still. Beach looks extremely nice as well. Parking is well organized - it is in the city and you have a shuttle bus to the port reception. Overall expirience was very good but it is better to come in summer.

Such a fantastic location. 10/10 for cleanliness. Room was lovely howler we could not get the air con to go below 23. When we asked a reception we were told this is the minimum it was set to. Whilst we were there my disabled wife became unwell, Helena the restaurant manager went above and beyond in catering for her special needs. She deserves a big thank you. However all the staff were exceptional and made every guest feel special. Would love to return again when it is a bit cooler.

This was our 7th visit to the Hotel Istra.We started our holiday on the wrong foot with our room.Opening the room blind ,we couldn't believe what confronted us on the balcony.It was like the Brazilian rain forest,trees and vegitation came right up to the balcony.Credit to the manager he gave us a different room after explaining our loyalty using Maistra for over 10 yrs.We were given a sea view ,we just asked for a view.Well done . We had the usual rush of guest in the restaurant around 6-30pm on our first night but surprisingly after that it became quite civalised and same at breakfast over the 1 week we were there. One thing the management must be more disciplined on is dress code for the evening meal.Around 8pm one night a family of 4 came and sat at the next table ,they had come straight off the beach big pile of sweaty towels on a chair,it was like having your meal in a public laundry.Not good ! The food in the restaurant was very acceptable. Restaurant Suggestion Maistra... When you enter the restaurant Chaos awaits you.To your right on entering is the dry area, bread ,toaster,pastries ect.It's a big bottle neck and same situation for your evening meal.Not a great start to the day or your evening meal. Maistra why not move the Dry area down to the bottom wall area where all those bottles and vegitation are on display.One way in one way out.There's plenty of room in that area to solve the entry bottle neck. Maistra can you solve this mystery.Ferry pick up in the Old Town of Rovinj :- If this is your first visit the Hotel Istra be aware of ferry pick up procedure. Depending who is the capt at the time.Here we are were waiting for the 2.30pm ferry to the Hotel Istra in the Old Town of Rovinj .It arrives ,passengers get off.There are 10 guest/passengers wanting to get on but were refused & told to wait.Rubinum the ferry then goes over to the swimming pool terminal,drops more people off and picks up new guest with cases along with ongoing guest.The ferry then comes back over to the Old Town again then allows us to get onto the ferry,sails over to the Hotel Istra past the swimming pool terminal.Maistra HQ account dept.You need to check how much Diesel The Rubinum ferry is wasting going back & forth .It doesn't make sense or does it ???? Maybe i've got it wrong. At 11.30pm the Rubinum ferry stops operating so be careful,the Katerina Hotel ferry takes over .We call it The Jaws Boat ( Rovinj ) after the film ,takes over,you'll find it gets very very full dropping off at Hotel Katerina & Hotel Istra. Maistra bought an Electric ferry boat a couple of years ago which is twice the size of the Jaws Boat ( Rovinj ) with more seating.But this ferry only operates in the Old Town Marina,why not use it to take back the guest to the Katerina & Hotel Istra in comfort.Maybe the batteries aren't big enough to travel to the Istra and back.
