We just returned from a visit to the Renaissance Wind Creek Curacao. Our stay was from June 3rd-7th. The purpose of our visit was to celebrate my 50th birthday. While this was a beautiful property, we experienced a couple of issues that interrupted what would have otherwise been a 5-star experience. First, we were notified via email four days prior to the start of our trip that we would not be able to access the infinity beach, pool, and bar due to construction, which is absurd. I say that because the purpose of traveling to an island and staying at an all-inclusive resort is to enjoy all of the amenities that the resort has to offer. The selling point for any resort is the beach and pool. So then the question becomes, why were we still subject to resort fees? Why would we not be compensated for the lack of the most important part of any resort (besides the restaurants)? Why were we not offered a free night or any sort of credit/refund? Upon check-in, it was explained that we would be shuttled back and forth to a public beach. That is not a fair trade. We pay for a certain brand of hotel because of the access and convenience of being able to walk to and from the amenities offered. I am not a fan of packing a bag and being transported offsite daily to a random beach unless I choose to do an excursion. This beach did not even have a pool, and the bathrooms were disgusting. I do not like the idea of spending half the day offsite just to experience the mediocre beach. This was very poor planning on the hotel’s part, and I believe Marriott was aware well in advance of the planned construction and elected not to inform guests timely, which left us with no other options. To receive an email 3-4 days prior to arrival presents an issue of dishonesty and a lack of consideration by the hotel. This ridiculous timeline did not allow us to rebook because other hotels within proximity to the area we desired to stay in were fully booked and/or not highly rated. To add insult to injury, we found out the pool opened the very next day after we departed. Marriott will have to take full accountability and provide some level of compensation for this inconvenience. A shuttle bus was a very low-level effort, and as a loyalty member, I have higher expectations. The next issue was returning to our room one evening and finding a roach crawling in the shower. I understand Caribbean islands have the potential for bug infestations; however, I still expect more from Marriott’s brand. This is a clear sign of a bigger problem that should be addressed immediately. You can understand our dismay as this made us very uncomfortable for the duration of our stay. Very disgusting to say the least. The last issue that we encountered was excessive noise in the morning due to work being done on what sounded like pipes being banged on. Construction taking place anytime prior to 9 a.m. on any given day while on vacation is unacceptable. These issues were addressed with the front desk staff. I hope they kept a record of our complaints to pass on to the corporate office, and hopefully, Marriott team members are working to identify a solution for guests. I expect to hear from someone regarding the aforementioned issues immediately.
Location is great for walking to nearby restaurants and the town. It wasnt overly crowded. We did do their all inclusive package. Not really necessary for this property. Did come in handy when we stayed at the pool all day. The servers will be more attentive if you tip them to start. There were a few children at the pool, but not like you felt like it was too many. The rooms are spacious, very clean and had comfortable beds. We could not hear our neighbors which was nice. The restaurants on property have good food. The hotel is located next to where they let off for the cruise ships. Bar gets busy before the boat departs.
We had an amazing stay at this hotel. Our room was high up facing the lagoon. Walkable to downtown shops and restaurants. Helpful staff. There is a Starbucks inside where we got our morning coffee and croissant. We did not eat at the hotel so cannot comment on the food. Parking for the rental car was simple and never an issue.
The resort is very spacious with an open and friendly vibe. The rooms are also very spacious and well equipped with amenities. On arrival we were greeted with bottle of water and Riangelo and the ladies at the front desk were so friendly, helpful and made great suggestions. This resort not only met, but exceeded the expectations of a Marriott resort.
We stayed at the Renaissance for our Honeymoon and had a fantastic time! The hotel had a lovely vibe throughout - everything was clean and well presented, and the decor all very up-to-date! On arrival, the transfer from the airport only took 20 minutes by taxi. We were welcomed very warmly by the reception staff, who had very kindly offered us a room upgrade to celebrate our special occasion! The room was larger than expected, clean and well equipped with minibar. The air conditioning was easy to control, and meant our room was always so lovely to return to following time out in the hot and humid climate of Curacao. Having coeliac disease meant I needed to order Gluten Free meals - the menu at each of the hotel's restaurants was lacking at first glance, but if we spoke to staff and enquired, there were actually many options - including specially made pancakes at breakfast! The cocktails at the 5 O'Clock Somewhere bar were fantastic! Such a massive range of drinks to suit everyone...and even better that these were available on our all-inclusive package. The hotel's infinity pool was a massive selling point. There were plenty of sun loungers, but it was low-season, so I suspect it does get busier! There was also a lovely Infinity Beach Bar, with nice light bites for lunch. We also had a romantic beach dinner on one of our first nights, and it was one of the highlights of our stay, with a delicious menu of small plates. It was only a short walk from the hotel into Willemstad centre, across the "Swinging Old Lady" bridge. There were also a fantastic range of restaurants within a close walk if you wanted to go outside the hotel at any point. Particular thanks goes to Ivoriee and Sjari, who made our stay very special - Ivoriee always remembering our names and welcoming us with big smiles, and Sjari ensuring all of my gluten-free needs were met at the hotels restaurant! We would definitely recommend the Renaissance to anyone wanting to visit Curacao.
