We had a nice stay at Bella Vista, but it was definitely not without its quirks. So here is our honest and straightforward review – the good, the bad and the slightly ridiculous. 😄 The hotel & staff 🏨 The hotel itself is nice, and the pool is lovely – especially the swim-up pool bar. 🍹 The restaurant staff were genuinely sweet. After just a few days, they remembered our family and were joking around with our teenagers, which made us feel very welcome. The food was reasonably varied, with the usual recurring dishes. One thing we really liked was the fresh pasta station, where you could choose your own ingredients. Every morning there was also freshly made omelette outside, again with your choice of fillings. 🍳 The restaurant itself, however, felt a little bit like a canteen. It could also get VERY loud, and some acoustic panels might do wonders for the noise level. The reception staff were also friendly and patient – even at 3:30 in the morning when an exhausted and slightly irritated mother arrived with a teenager who absolutely, under no circumstances, could survive another minute without Wi-Fi. 😂 Speaking of Wi-Fi: expect to enjoy your holiday physically rather than digitally. The upload speed was under 1 Mbps. So forget uploading your holiday reels in real time. Your followers will simply have to wonder where you disappeared to. 😂📵 The pool & beach 🏖️ Here comes one of the more unusual things: the pool AND the beach close at 6 PM. Yes. The beach closes. 😳 There was no obvious explanation, which apparently is not something you should try to impose on a highly educated Nordic woman who has paid for a holiday by the sea. 😂 I became annoyed, stubborn and slightly rebellious – and went into the sea anyway. That said, you should be aware that after dark there may be marine animals coming closer to shore, some of which you probably don’t want to meet while standing waist-deep in the Red Sea. So perhaps the hotel has a point. 😅 The house reef was actually quite nice for snorkelling. We saw lots of fish in different sizes and even a Nemo (clownfish). 🐠🤿 However, if you want the feeling of literally swimming in a giant aquarium, I would recommend taking a boat trip. Boat trip 🚤🐠 We booked a boat trip through the friendly guy Roma who walk around the pool area selling excursions, and we can definitely recommend it. We had two snorkelling stops with plenty of coral and fish. Some of the coral was unfortunately quite damaged and not particularly colourful – although perhaps we are slightly spoiled after having been to the Maldives. 🌴 Lunch was served on board afterwards. It was perfectly decent, and we definitely didn’t leave hungry. 😄 Then we went to an island for two hours with a beautiful white beach and plenty of Instagram moments. 📸🏝️ I did some more snorkelling and saw a HUGE trumpetfish, around 120 cm long, as well as a spotted whipray/mangrove whipray (Urogymnus granulatus). My teenagers, however, were less impressed by the idea of sitting on a beautiful island for two hours. 😂 So personally, we could have done without that part. Super Safari 🏜️🐪 We also went on a Super Safari, including ATV and buggy driving, which was fun. Unfortunately, the trip also included a 45-minute Jeep drive to a place where you could ride some rather sad-looking camels and had the “opportunity” to buy herbs and “receive” a cup of tea. That part felt like a complete waste of time. Then another 45-minute Jeep ride back, followed by dinner, belly dancing and a fire show. The food was okay, and the entertainment was fun enough. One rather unpleasant pool experience 😬 We did have one particularly annoying experience with an apparently very poorly supervised boy of around 11–12 years old who spent a large part of the day terrorising everyone around the pool. He splashed water at people, repeatedly jumped from the fountain despite being told not to, spat on people and sun loungers, and even stood on a ledge throwing fruit into the pool in an attempt to hit people. Eventually, enough was enough. We contacted the lifeguard, who brought someone from reception, who eventually brought the manager. Several other guests also complained, and in the end the boy was excluded from the pool area. Thankfully, peace and quiet returned and we could go back to actually enjoying our holiday. 😅 Unfortunately, it seemed that one of the pool bar staff knew the boy, and after the incident our treatment from that particular bartender changed noticeably. He ignored us and suddenly we could no longer order the same things we had been ordering previously. This was the bartender working on Saturday afternoon, 1 August. To be fair, the rest of the bar staff were lovely, friendly and fun, and we had some great interactions with them. ❤️ Food & drinks 🍕🍹 The pool restaurant advertises a variety of food, but during our stay they only served pizza. So don’t expect the full menu you see advertised. The beach bar is not included in the all-inclusive package and advertises cocktails. Unfortunately, my Piña Colada was not a success – the coconut milk tasted slightly sour and the drink wasn’t particularly cold. 🥥😬 The room 🛏️ The air conditioning works VERY well. In fact, it works so well that it sounds like a small aircraft taking off. 😂✈️ There are three speed settings: 1. Fast 2. Really fast 3. Extremely fast Unfortunately, none of them are particularly suitable for sleeping. Apart from that, the room was perfectly fine. We stayed in a suite for four people with a lovely terrace overlooking the pool. Entertainment 🎤 We only attended the entertainment one evening, when there was karaoke. We did, however, listen to some of the evening entertainment from our terrace while enjoying beers from the bar – brought to us by my husband, obviously – and playing cards with the kids. 🍺🃏 Honestly, those evenings were some of our favourite moments. Outside the hotel 🌴 We didn’t really explore outside the hotel apart from the organised excursions. Other guests told us that the Marina was lovely, so perhaps that is something we should have explored. Overall ⭐️ All in all, we’ve had an okay holiday. We got plenty of sunshine, warmth, relaxation and family time, which was exactly what we needed. ☀️❤️ Bella Vista has lovely staff, a nice pool, good access to the sea and plenty of things to enjoy. It also has some rather strange rules, a few things that could definitely be improved, and enough quirks to keep you entertained. 😂 Would we return? Maybe. Would we recommend it? Yes – but we’d definitely recommend going with realistic expectations rather than expecting five-star luxury. And most importantly: bring sunscreen, patience and a sense of humour. 😎
