We’ve just returned as a family of four from Serry Beach. While there are definitely positives—and many of these have already been highlighted in other reviews—I do feel the hotel needs a bit of a reality check. The hotel (and many online reviews) presents itself as a true 5★ experience, but based on our experience and comparisons from travelling extensively, I don’t think it quite lives up to that standard. It leans heavily on its beautiful aesthetic, which is impressive, but underneath that there are several areas that need improvement. With some adjustments, it could be fantastic. Check-in Our arrival experience was poor. We were told to sit down and wait, but then left with no communication for around 45 minutes. After travelling with children, all you want is to get into your room quickly. It was also early evening, so we ended up being bitten by mosquitoes while our repellent was still packed away. Buffet restaurant The food itself was good quality and hygienic—none of us were unwell during the trip, which is a big positive. However, the setup doesn’t match the number of guests. There simply aren’t enough tables or food stations, making it feel chaotic and overcrowded. We often had to wait for a table and queue for food, and on some occasions weren’t even offered drinks. That’s not what you expect from a 5★ hotel. À la carte restaurants Very inconsistent. Some dishes arrived cold, and children’s meals (like nuggets and chips) were both cold and extremely small—sometimes just a handful of chips and a few nuggets. Influencer culture The hotel is heavily populated with influencers constantly filming and photographing. While that may appeal to some, it did become quite intrusive and highlighted how staged the environment can feel. Pool experience This was one of the strangest aspects. There are strict rules—no floats or balls—and the pool closes at 5:30pm sharp. On our first day, a whistle was blown at 5:26pm and everyone was told to get out immediately. We’ve never experienced anything like this before. As a family, we enjoy late afternoon swims, so this was disappointing. Even extending the hours slightly would make a big difference. The pool is also in need of a complete refurbishment as the floor is peeling. Poolside service was inconsistent. Some days we weren’t offered drinks at all, yet the setup makes it feel like you’re not supposed to get your own. That lack of clarity was frustrating. We also had mixed messages about food by the pool—one staff member said no food was allowed, another said pizza was available but at an extra charge, despite snacks already being served poolside. Late check-out We asked about extending our room several days in advance and were told to check again the day before departure. When we did, we were laughed at and told there was “no chance” due to full occupancy. That may be fair, but clearer communication earlier would have helped. We were given a 30-minute room slot to shower before departure, which was very rushed for a family of four. WiFi limitations You’re limited to 4–5 devices, and once connected, it’s difficult to swap devices. Worth noting if you plan to download content for your return journey. For families with children We travelled with pre-teens. The animation team were good, but there wasn’t enough overall to keep them entertained. The beach also closed at 5:30pm, which meant when it was finally cool enough to play football, they were asked to leave. Facilities like table tennis and pool were often occupied by adults, highlighting a lack of dedicated activities or space for kids. Overall impression The hotel is good—but not the exceptional 5★ experience it markets itself as. The staff are very mixed: some are genuinely excellent and friendly, while others seemed disengaged or reluctant to provide service. Beneath the glamour, it feels like the hotel is still figuring out its identity. It’s not fully suited to families, but also not ideal for couples seeking a relaxed luxury escape. There were also operational issues—for example, the main pool had to be closed during our stay due to a hygiene incident involving a child. Final thoughts With better organisation, more staff, additional dining options, more relaxed policies, and improved communication, this hotel could be outstanding. Right now, it feels like style over substance—and doesn’t quite justify the hype.
