Sultan Bey Resort

Stayed for a week all inclusive. Hotel is in a good location in the down town area of El Gouna. Plenty of shops and restaurants within a 5-10mins walk. About 45mins from Hurghada Airport. All the rooms are in different blocks with each block having a few rooms. The room was spacious with two large twin beds which were comfortable, there was a pillow menu but the other pillows were at an extra cost. Lots of storage, bathroom was big too, maybe a bit dated but not a problem for us. Bathroom had shower gels etc, hair dryer and lots of towels were provided. The room and the whole hotel is Egyptian themed and therefore felt unique. There’s a free safe provided as well as a minibar but there is a charge for that, the prices weren’t too bad though. Two free bottles of water are delivered to the room every morning. There’s also a small TV with local and international channels. There’s a good amount of plug sockets around too, near the bed and also near the desk, the WiFi worked well. Balcony was a good size. There’s one main restaurant which has outdoor and indoor seating. It’s table service for drinks and the rest is a buffet. There are two live cooking stations one for pasta and one which varied throughout the week. Once a week there is a BBQ and the terrace area is made into the restaurant, a lot of work went into this and it was a nice atmosphere. There’s also a night where the buffet is set around the pool which again was really nice. All the food was good and varied for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There’s a different theme each night for dinner, from German to Italian etc. The themes can be found on the wall outside the restaurant. The restaurant also offered a special dinner which you pay for, it’s a set menu which you choose before you book, then you are served around the pool bar, the food was nice and it was something different. Each night there’s entertainment on the terrace, there were a few good acts like a Michael Jackson tribute, local singers and belly dancers. There wasn’t a lot of people who went to this which was a shame. To the side of the terrace there’s a few shops which sell souvenirs etc but they were quite expensive. Again it’s table service for drinks from the bar. The pool bar is the main place to get drinks. There’s tables overlooking the lagoons around the bar. It’s important to note that cocktails are not included as part of the all inclusive. Included drinks were; soft drinks like Fanta etc, red, white or Rose wine, draft Beer and mixers like Vodka, Gin etc. There was an all inclusive cocktail of the day which was included and changed each day. Snacks such as pizza or salad are available at the pool bar during select hours, there’s also afternoon snacks during select hours which had; sandwiches and pastries, the pastries were quite dry though. The pool isn’t that big but wasn’t ever crowded, there was never a problem finding sun longer around the pool. The ones on the private beach were taken quite early but around the pool you can always find a sun lounger. The hotel had a section of the lagoon closed just for hotel guests just off the private beach. They had nice cushions on the sun beds as well. When you arrive you are given cards to exchange for beach/pool towels you can get these in the corner behind the pool. Just make sure you exchange them back for the cards for when you check out. There’s a table tennis table and table football by the pool. The entertainment team have an event each morning from stretches in the pool to table tennis competitions. An interesting thing was when you are sitting around the pool, people from local attractions like lagoon boat tours or quad biking places will come and try and sell you some experiences. However; they aren’t pushy and once you have said no they won’t bother you again. There’s a free shuttle to Zeytouna Island which runs every hour during select hours and takes about 5mins. On the island there’s a big beach, walking pier, bars and activities places. There’s also a restaurant and if you take the voucher, which you can get from reception, you get a free lunch and drinks from this restaurant. It’s a set menu with two different choices of mains depending on the day. This was a nice restaurant and nice extra from the hotel. There are a lot of stray cats around the hotel but they never really bother you. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel mainly had German guests when we went, with a few from the UK. Overall a great holiday and would come back.
