Aelius Hotel & Spa

Myself and my son arrived on the 10th August for a 2 week stay. Upon arrival (at 11pm local time) , I was advised that our room was not ready but that for the next two days we would be getting upgraded to a “superior” room. Highly inconvenient considering I have a small child and did not want to have to move and repack. The room itself was average… I will emphasise that none of the rooms look like the pictures that are advertised … I can say this with confidence as we moved 3 times during our stay. I did, however, find the cleanliness acceptable in all of the rooms. The location was fine, close to the beach and the shuttle from the hotel was helpful… although the staff WILL NOT be flexible and the shuttle only holds about 8 people. It is also close to Heraklion etc soo plenty of shops/restaurants. There is also a little strip about a ten minute walk to the left of the hotel. The main pool and bar facilities were ok, however, it was very difficult to get a sunbed. The guests seemed to be mainly couples who DID NOT like children having fun on their holidays. The staff were awful, really abrupt and rude. They communicated nothing about your stay and one of them shouted at another holiday goer when they were reporting an issue with their room. Highly unprofessional and also upset my child. They also spoke to me like I was stupid on several occasions. The food in the main buffet was alright, same items on offer most of the time, we were half board and didn’t we know it! Pointed out loudly by every staff member who bothered to come near us and do their job … as if it was shameful. They also preferred children to sit in the outside section of the restaurant … together with other families … and the cats. A holiday that I was extremely excited for was a dupe in my opinion that I could literally go on and on about. It offers next to nothing of what is advertised, the staff are horrible and I would not recommend it to anyone. Unfortunately, it’s a very poor representation of Greece.

We had paid for half board and our own private pool. The private pool was absolutely amazing. Well worth the money!! We paid for that instead of all inclusive and it was well worth it. We wouldn’t have used all inclusive enough to get our moneys worth. A cocktail was €10 so if you wanted to drink I’d recommend all inclusive, the hotel had a little shop which was handy for some snacks, drinks and ice cream or coffee. We paid for late check out which was well worth it as we didn’t get picked up until 8:30pm. This is definitely a 4.5 star hotel. It is small and the pools were busy. There is 1 indoor spa pool, 2 main pools and 1 separate with a pool bar for the Sensus guests. The hotel was maybe fully booked. The food was great, loved the hash browns at breakfast 1 morning and the food was different everyday. The room had a large cupboard and mini fridge with water inside, the cleaners were also fantastic. We arrived late at night to food in our room as we missed dinner. We also got Greek vodka as a gift. The location was great for it to be quiet and able to walk down to the beach. It was about a 8 min walk down. The hotel also has a bus on 3 times a day that drops you off and picks you up. Coming back the bus was quite busy so we just walked down as it was easier. A few restaurants down the front that were nice and mostly fish. Some lovely sunset views. Paid €10 for sun loungers for the day at the beach and also paid to jet ski at €70. We also got lucky with our room/pool as we had a lot of space at the side for our sun loungers. The rooms got sun all day! There is no air con in the restaurants, or the lobby, there is not much air con anywhere in Crete. Including the airport, supermarkets etc.

Fantastic Massage – Highly Recommended! I had a massage with Emma and absolutely loved it! She was very professional, friendly, and attentive throughout the entire experience.
