Heronissos Hotel

Arrived around midnight on the 9/5 for a 10 night stay with friends only to be told we were being put in a different hotel for one night to save any hiccups? 🫣 We were each put in a superior room at the Apollis hotel very close by which was lovely! We had booked 2 standard rooms next to one another & were thrilled to have a sea view each on the fourth floor! Our rooms were very clean with clean white sheets & towels ( towels changed daily ) The A/C was FANTASTIC as it was hand operated & worked when we were out of our rooms & also when the balcony doors were open! Our hiccups were my sink being blocked & telephone not working? Within 10 minutes the lovely Manolis (caretaker of 30 years!) was in my room & replaced a pipe that solved my problem? I then took him to my friend’s room to see if the excess water could be solved on their bathroom floor that accumulated whilst they were showering or taking a bath? We thought it was coming from the bath but discovered eventually that there was a blockage in the bathrooms centre drain which was causing an overflow! This took nearly a week to solve & fix which was too long but on our final day we had a really lovely conversation with the hotels manager, Fortina who could not have been more apologetic & kinder about our experiences on learning a few more details & offered to look after us thoroughly should we decide to return this September? On the whole the food was absolutely delicious & there was plenty of choice for all differing tastes? The hotel is literally 5 minutes from the narrow but adequate beach & shops & the staff & waiters & waitresses & cleaning ladies were very helpful & cheerful which makes a huge difference! Would I stay in this hotel again, yes definitely! 🏝️

Heronissos Hotel is the real deal. Warm staff, great atmosphere, and everything you need for the perfect Cretan getaway. Already missing it!

Location: 5/5! We loved closeness to the sea, several beautiful beaches to choose from, several markets nearby, even a bigger supermarket type food store with everything you need (not a tourist shop, more for locals). The only minus for us were the nearby “tourist” bars/restourants and managers/callers who got very annoying to a point of straight up harrassment (didnt let us walk past them on the streets, even grabbed my partner by shoulder). But that is not the hotels fault ofc. Atmosphere: 4/5. Some places were a bit broken/needs some repairs. Other hotel guests sometimes got a bit loud (near the bar area and pool). Overall we liked it, would visit again! Room: 3/5. We paid extra for a superior/suit room. Nice first floor access from room straight to pool area with our own little balcony area. Not too private sadly. At first glance the room looked well worth the upgrade, but there were several things missing (like a closet to store clothes, a clothing line or some place to hang beach towels to dry/beachwear to dry, scraper for water in the bathroom), walls had scuf-marks. Noise was an issue only when there was a dj or traditional dance night with music by the pool. It always ended by 11pm so it wasnt much of a bother to us. Sadly the air confitioner unit was a bit broken or something - the machine was working, but the room was very cold and moist (it worked through the night but in the morning it was still stuffy and very moist in the room). Food: we had AI. Food was absolutely 5/5! We were very pleased with the quality, variety and warmness of the warm dishes. Didnt get sick once - but we did use our own antibacterial wipes before eating! No complaints, super good! Would def visit again for the food! The drinks were OK, regular as with all AI packets. Coctails were very nice! Pool/poolside area: the pool is not heated, but water was refreshing and with nice temperature. One thing guests didnt seem to understand is that the sunbeds are NOT for reservation! They are free for all guests. We woke at 6:30 am and almost all sunbeds were “reserved” with towels/hats/sunglasses. Some guests left their stuff on the lounge chairs for hours and nobody used them, so they were just “reserved”. The receptionist told us that that is not correct and we can simply choose someones “reserved” sunbed and use them - take the towel/stuff and put it besides the lounger. That is something that i wish hotel staff would tell guests more or even put up signs near the pool area, because that made for some uncomfortable moments… All the staff was mostly helpful, friendly. No complaints. Cleaning staff also very helpful and friendly - our room was cleaned almost every day (towels changed every day). Other hotel guests were the ones that were sometimes rude/not very understanding that they are not alone in the world.

Heronissos hotel was a 5 star experience once arrived staff were extremely polite and welcome stayed for a course of 5 7 days and it was one of the most comfortable and great hotel to stay in
