It was a professional service!

Just come back from a weeks stay at Ikaros Beach. We have very mixed reviews of the resort. Firstly, the grounds and complex is absolutely stunning; it is well looked after and beautifully green and colourful with all the trees and flowers. The grounds and rooms were immaculate and constantly cleaned. Our room was lush and was cleaned daily to an inch of its life to thank you to whoever cleaned 256. What I would say was I really don’t think what we paid is worth what we got. Food and Drinks I would say the food and drinks were very average. Nothing above board and in fact the only thing we really liked was the Italian A La Carte restaurant. As for the main restaurant it was very samey and quite bland. The drinks were mediocre at best. I would say to charge for a Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri is daylight robbery after paying £1800+ each to stay at the resort. The drinks weren’t even made with real strawberries but awful strawberry syrup. Surely in this day and age a Daiquiri is a bog standard cocktail. I wouldn’t have said it was giving all inclusive as at the bars the orders were taken and this often took forever. Finally, I don’t understand why you can’t order and get an iced caramel latte at breakfast when they literally do them at the bars. Every day we asked for one and each time got a different variation of a cold coffee no syrup. Pool Bar Big shout out to the pool bar staff but completely understaffed. It’s constantly busy and forever has a queue. Service was great and really appreciated. Tipping This blew my mind. Why is a tipping receipt provided with every service. At breakfast I don’t feel it is appropriate to provide a tipping bill when a coffee was offered and brought to me. This happened with everything. A room number was asked for and a tipping bill followed. It’s a bit excessive and unwarranted. Maybe the company need to think about the staffs wages. Pool/Entertainment The pool was lovely. But the atmosphere was dead. I get it is an adults only hotel but it was simply so quiet. It felt awkward to talk or laugh. Music was at the pool bar but you could only hear it when at the bar. The only music to be heard was the blaring music from aqua aerobics each morning. Why are there no more activities? I felt this was completely poor and added to the lack of atmosphere. The entertainment on a night was pretty good aside to the daytime. Sunbeds It says there are no reserving and staff remove towels but this was not the case. People were placing their pool towels down and not surfacing until way after lunch. More needs to be done to stop this. The sunbeds on the beach need an upgrade they were dirty and giving aged compared to the rest of the resort. The parasols were rusting and some broken. Spa We didn’t try the spa. We may have given it a go but the constant and instant harassing from spa staff straight after you walk out after breakfast each morning is too much! Again, on an afternoon on the beach and around the pool. Checkout Checkout was fine. But after asking for baggage storage as out flight wasn’t until 00:40 that night/morning we literally had the full day to spend there once checked out. Considering we didn’t check in until 01:30am on arrival we were not offered a pass to eat or drink on the day we had left before returning to the UK. We stayed on the beds by the pool for a while after checkout and I ordered 2 coffees at the pool bar. When giving (what was) our room number we were told we’d have to pay as we weren’t given a pass for the day. I did explain the woman on reception didn’t offer one or explain we could get on. Rather than charge us he took pity on us and gave us the drink. We shortly left after this awkward encounter for Heraklion to spend the day there instead. We were quite let down by the offerings and the price tag on this after we were looking forward to coming. I think it has a lot to do to become value for money. I wouldn’t recommend to anyone in my family or friend groups. We spend every night eating out and spent more time eating at local establishments rather than the main complex. Really disappointed but really consider before booking. Value for money really wasn’t there.
