Village Heights Resort

We stayed here for our first holiday abroad with our baby son and had a wonderful time. The hotel itself is stunning, with beautiful views and some incredible sunsets. All the staff we interacted with were warm, helpful and welcoming, and they played a big part in making the trip so memorable for us as a family. The facilities were excellent, particularly the pool areas and the range of activities available around the resort. One thing we really loved was how natural the grounds felt. The gardens are clearly very well cared for, and it was lovely to see so many plants, trees, butterflies and dragonflies around the property. It gave the whole place a relaxed, almost tropical feel. For dining, Rodies was the standout for us. The food, setting and service there were all fantastic, and we found ourselves returning whenever we could. That's not to take anything away from the other restaurants, which were also very good, but Rodies was on another level. The only minor criticism would be that drinks felt quite expensive if you're not on the all-inclusive package. That said, the on-site mini market was excellent and stocked most things we needed, including reasonably priced beer and snacks. Overall, we had a fantastic stay and wouldn't hesitate to return. We'd happily recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a relaxing holiday, particularly families travelling with young children.

We have just gotten back from our honeymoon at Village Heights and it was absolutely incredible. The setting and facilities are amazing. There are lots of things to do and plenty of ways to relax. The biggest stand out of the resort however is the staff. We spent everyday at the Citrus bar and pool where all of the staff were superb and the cocktails were delicious. We want to say the biggest thanks to George at Citrus as he was always so welcoming and friendly even when having to come and take everyone’s orders frequently in the hot sun. Another shout out goes to George in the main restaurant who would come and greet us every day and have a lovely chat, he was great. Also, to Giorgis (I think that is his name) in the main restaurant he was lovely, always asked how our day was and would remember our drink order. During our stay we had a couples massage at the spa with Anna and Nikos and it was super relaxing, I would really recommend going to see them. All in all the stay was amazing! The only thing that could maybe be slightly improved was the buffet options for vegetarians to be a bit more varied but there was always something to eat!

My Mum and I spent a week here and were incredibly impressed with the setting, service and overall experience. Set slightly up in the mountains means stunning views and the gardens and grounds were very well maintained. Rooms were slightly tired and could have benefitted from a lick of paint and ‘dressing’ with more soft furnishings but were cleaned well every day. The staff were amazingly friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was relaxed. Especially Denis in the Elia restaurant and Anna, Nikos & Tina in the spa (great value treatments). Choice of restaurants and pools, as well as mini golf meant we were never bored but there are regular shuttles into Hersonissos - which is a bit touristy and not as traditional as other areas in Crete. Lots of people had a car to get around which you’d definitely need if you wanted to explore. This was a perfect retreat holiday and great value for the quality. We’d definitely stay again.

From an accommodation perspective, Village Heights Resort was good. The spacious one-bedroom unit with kitchen was a cost-effective alternative to Airbnb or similar apartment, especially when taking into account the nearby large swimming pool. However, despite the relatively well-equipped kitchen it seemed like self-catering was discouraged. A percolator coffee machine was supplied, but no filters or coffee - why not Nespresso? There were nice oil and vinegar and salt and pepper containers but these were empty and somewhat impractical to fill for 4 or 5 days. No cutting boards. The on-site food options were average but expensive. The large Main restaurant filled by families with young children offered a fairly wide buffet range, but a poor selection of 2 red wines by the glass. Rodies, set beside the large pool was a nice venue, but the food we chose was not as good as other places we’d eaten on Crete, for example Sofas Taverna in nearby Old Chersonissos. The resort is an isolated compound with nothing within walking distance, but fine with a car as a base for getting to Heraklion, Agios Nikolaos, Lasithi Plateau and similar locations. Some of the other guests appeared happy staying put and doing nothing and clearly the resort met their needs. That said, quality and price of the apartment-like accommodation was good and we would recommend Village Heights Resort on that basis.

We had an excellent holiday and would highly recommend this hotel, especially for families with children. The food in all of the restaurants was fantastic throughout our stay, with plenty of choice and consistently high quality. The hotel itself was brilliant, and the play park and kids club were amazing for keeping the children entertained. We stayed in the three-bedroom villa, which was excellent for a larger family — spacious, comfortable, and very practical. The rooms were nice, basic but comfortable, although the sofas in the living room could have done with a few more cushions for extra comfort. We did the cooking and wine tasting at Mitato which we would recommend and the executive chef ran it brilliantly. A special mention to Denis and Konstantinos in Elia restaurant, who were both brilliant, as well as Simon and John at the main/pool bar for their friendly and very attentive service. George, the manager in the main restaurant, was also excellent and made us feel very welcome. Overall, an excellent holiday and a fantastic choice for anyone travelling with kids.
