“Adults-only luxury resort” is the pitch. The reality is a perfectly decent four-star hotel that has convinced itself, and occasionally its guests, that it is something more. The staff are the hotel’s strongest asset, though also its most inconsistent one. Some genuinely go above and beyond — the names repeatedly praised in glowing reviews are clearly carrying much of the experience the brand promises. Others seem to operate with a kind of ambient indifference: technically present, but not especially engaged. The gap is wide enough that your stay depends heavily on which version of the team you encounter. The building is also starting to show its age. Nothing catastrophic, but enough to undermine the five-star claim: slow bar service, breakfast below the level suggested by the marketing, and small maintenance details left visible for too long. The glossy infinity-pool photos do a lot of work, but they cannot hide everything. The real issue, however, is the guest profile. This hotel markets itself as refined, calm and exclusive, yet the atmosphere often feels closer to a mass-package holiday resort. Loud, careless guests in football shirts, “wife beater” vest tops and beach-bar clothing do not create a five-star environment, however hard the better staff try. It is also difficult to ignore the apparent pricing imbalance. UK package guests appear to be paying significantly less — in some cases less than half of what continental European guests are charged. That kind of pricing strategy may fill rooms, but it also explains the disconnect between the hotel’s luxury positioning and the clientele it attracts. You cannot sell five-star discretion to one market while discounting heavily to another and then expect the atmosphere to remain elegant. The result is not a bad hotel. It is a tired, over-billed one: four-star comfort, four-star consistency, and a five-star invoice. The staff who genuinely care deserve better support, better standards and, frankly, a guest profile more aligned with the hotel’s own marketing. If you want genuine five-star discretion, calm and consistency, this is not it. If you want a nice pool, decent facilities and do not mind rolling the dice on service and neighbours, it will probably do.
