The Bali Tropic is a great hotel set in beautiful grounds that are kept immaculately clean, its Balinese style is quite unique and we loved the design of the resort, it’s beautiful. We had two Deluxe bungalows for our family which are spacious and well designed but are now showing their age, they look a bit tired but are kept spotlessly clean. On the bed and breakfast board basis all you will receive are two small bottles of water a day (not enough to fill a kettle) everything else is a paid for service including the mini bar but there is a really cheap supermarket directly across the road from the hotel so it’s not a problem.
The main asset of this resort are the staff, they were all brilliant, the service we received while staying there was exemplary, it’s really well run and any issues are resolved immediately, everyone is so friendly and so willing to help any way they can, every single one of them were fantastic.
We ate in the main restaurant on our first night which was ok but we dined out for dinner at the other local hotels and restaurants for the rest of our stay. The buffet breakfast was really good with a huge range of selections for every taste, there is something for everyone and again it is really well organised.
The pool area is really nice but can get noisy in the afternoons when the all inclusive starts to kick in at the swim up bar, the more alcohol the guests consume the louder it gets. There is an alternative if you prefer it quieter, there is a rooftop pool which is lovely and was not crowded during our stay.
I have to give a mention for the laundry service that is available at the resort, it’s the best I’ve ever experienced in many years of travelling, it’s so cheap. It’s a same day service if sent out before 10am and it returns pressed, it was so good that on our penultimate day we sent all our laundry out and put it straight in to our luggage so we didn’t have to bother with it on our return home.
There are several motor boats moored on the beach which you can book through the hotel or at the desk on the beach which will take you out scuba diving, snorkelling or out to the surrounding islands. They also have plenty of non motor equipment like kayaks, wind surfing and a small sailed catamaran. There are also bikes available so you can ride the coastal walk which runs for miles along the beach front and passes through all the neighbouring hotels, you can also get to the Bali Collection via this route.
The only disappointment was the beach, it’s dirty. Because it’s tidal every morning it is covered in seaweed and litter, the staff cleaned the beach but it would be the same every day. There is also the added problem of the staff disposing of the seaweed by digging holes and burying it, this is going to cause a problem in the near future when this biomass starts to break down, it will start to release toxins and the smell will be disgusting, there was a whiff of it already having started. The end of the beach where the boats are moored isn’t cleaned and it really is disgusting.
Just a couple of things to note which we were unaware of before our stay which might be helpful to people considering staying at this resort. It is not in the gated community section of Nusa Dua (ITDC) where all the big hotels are located (Sofitel, Westin, Hyatt, Melia, Novotel, St Regis, Laguna etc) it’s a little further along the coast situated in Benoa. It was not a problem for us, in fact we preferred to be out of that area but some may like the added security it offers if you stay in a hotel within the ITDC. The hotel is not situated on Nusa Dua beach, it’s about 3 hotels along from there, the hotels off Nusa Dua beach have little bays/ coves whereas the main Nusa Dua beach is a long strip of white sand.
I would definitely stay at this resort on our return, it’s a great place to stay and really good for the price, I thought it represented good value for money but they would have to resolve the beach issues before I rebooked.
