GF Gran Costa Adeje

We have just returned from another fantastic stay at the GF Gran Costa Adeje, and once again, the hotel did not disappoint. This was our 7th visit, with our first stay dating back to 2007. This was a particularly special trip for our family, as we have stayed at the hotel several times over the years, including for our honeymoon, my husband's 40th and 50th birthdays and, most recently, my 50th birthday. We had to celebrate this year's birthday a little later than planned due to school commitments, but it was wonderful to return and make even more special family memories. Before arriving, my husband contacted Guest Relations to explain that we were travelling with my sister, who has mobility difficulties following treatment for a brain tumour, and my 83-year-old mum. He also asked if they could consider a convenient room location for them, ideally close to a lift, and requested a quiet, higher-floor room with a pool and side sea view for our family room. I usually deal with all the arrangements myself, but as this was a special belated celebration for my 50th birthday, my husband wanted to arrange a lovely room for us as a little surprise. He also mentioned my 50th birthday in his email, which made the welcome bottle of cava we received on arrival an especially lovely gesture. I honestly couldn't have been happier with the rooms we were given. Both rooms were lovely, spacious and beautifully maintained. Our room had a lovely pool view as well as views of the sea. My mum and sister's room was on a lower floor, right beside the lift, which was perfect for them and made such a difference to our holiday. The rooms were cleaned every day, with towels replenished daily, and towels were also changed again in the evening if we wanted them. The housekeeping team work incredibly hard and did a fantastic job throughout our stay. The reception team also deserve a special mention. During our stay, the air conditioning in my mum's room wasn't working properly, and when we reported it, they arranged for it to be looked at straight away and got it sorted very quickly. My sister also had some difficulty with the shower and couldn't turn it off, and again, someone was sent to help her immediately. Throughout our stay, we found all the staff to be incredibly kind, patient and understanding towards both my mum and my sister. My sister has physical disabilities and can sometimes find things difficult, while my mum can occasionally become confused. The staff always treated them with such kindness, patience and dignity, never making them feel uncomfortable or like they were a bother. This meant an enormous amount to us as a family and made us feel that they were genuinely looked after and cared for during our holiday. ❤️ We stayed all inclusive, and overall we thought the food was very good, with plenty of choice and different themes on the buffet each evening, which kept things varied. We particularly enjoyed the convenience of the pool bar and the hotel's facilities. One small point regarding the all-inclusive package is that not all cocktails are included, and it would have been lovely to have had a little more variety of cocktails included within the package. That said, all-inclusive guests do receive a discount on drinks that aren't included, which is a nice benefit. As a vegetarian, I was also a little surprised that the vegetarian burger wasn't included in the all-inclusive package, while the standard burger was. I'm not sure why this is the case 🤔, particularly as the vegetarian sandwich at the pool bar is included, so perhaps this is something the hotel could look at in the future. I would also like to mention the sunbeds, as I know this can sometimes be a contentious subject. You absolutely do not need to reserve a sunbed at this hotel. There are plenty available after 9am, so if you're happy to choose a bed when you arrive at the pool, you really don't need to get up early. For our family, however, I did reserve four sunbeds at around 7:45am each morning. This was not about trying to claim the best spot around the pool or taking more beds than we needed. My sister has mobility difficulties and my mum is 83 and can be forgetful, so having the same four sunbeds in the same convenient location, close to their room, the lift, toilets, pool bar and restaurant, meant they knew exactly where they were and didn't have to walk unnecessarily far or navigate around the large hotel looking for us. Our youngest son spends most of his time in the pool and simply shares my sunbed, while our older son tends to do his own thing and often uses the rooftop pool. So four sunbeds were more than enough for our family of six. For us, having that familiar routine and convenient location made a huge difference and allowed everyone to enjoy the holiday comfortably. It is one of the reasons the GF Gran works so well for our family. Our youngest son, who is 13 and already around 5ft 8, also really enjoys the hotel and the activities. The Teen Room, however, didn't really feel aimed at teenagers during our stay. He went in a few times, but there were generally more younger children, mostly under 10, using the space. It would be lovely to see a little more focus on activities and entertainment specifically for teenagers, particularly in the evenings. That said, the daytime entertainment was fantastic. Our son particularly enjoyed the water basket, there was also water volley, mini golf, water carpet and Gladiators. The entertainment team were absolutely brilliant — so friendly, approachable and helpful with a special mention to Alexander!! There was also an inflatable activity on a Friday, although this was aimed at children aged 12 and under, so perhaps having some activities specifically for older teenagers would be a great addition. The hotel itself is fantastic. The service is excellent, the rooms are kept beautifully clean and the staff are always friendly and helpful. I also want to give a special mention to all the staff who work so hard throughout the hotel — the bar staff, restaurant staff, pool bar team and hygiene staff. They work incredibly hard and often have very long shifts, so understandably, in temperatures of around 30 degrees, they can't be expected to be working at 100% every single second. Despite this, we found everyone to be friendly, helpful and hardworking, and we really appreciate everything they do to keep the hotel running so well. A very special mention must go to the Hall Bar staff, who were so kind and patient with our son. We encouraged him to go to the bar himself to order his favourite San Francisco, Copa de Leche Fría or Fanta Naranja, as we're keen to encourage his independence, and he's also learning Spanish at school. The staff were always so lovely with him, especially Jose (Jose Carlos) which really meant a lot to us. These little moments make such a difference and are memories he will take away from the holiday. ❤️ We were also very touched to receive a welcome bottle of cava on arrival, which was a lovely gesture. My husband had mentioned my belated 50th birthday celebration in his email before we arrived, so it would have been nice if this had been acknowledged personally during our stay, but this was only a very small disappointment in what was otherwise another wonderful holiday. We have now stayed at the GF Gran many times, and I think that says everything. It has become a very special place for our family, and we are already considering returning again next year. Been coming to the Gran since 2009 both as a couple (got engaged at the hotel) and now as a family. Have stayed in a variety of rooms but this time we were in the Royal Suite which was just wonderful. On arrival there was such a warm welcome at reception and we were able to go straight to our room. Other reviews have already provided the necessary details of the suite but it was super clean and the refurb is lovely without having lost the charm and space which the Gran offers. Stayed b&b and the best hotel breakfast is on offer with plenty of variety and beautifully presented, tasty food. I’m coeliac and just had to ask for gluten free croissant or toast and it was brought to the table with no worries. Also could request egg white omelette at the egg station without hassle. Food mostly labelled with allergens and also variety of dairy free milk freely available. Never had an issue getting a sun bed regardless of the time of day despite it being July summer holidays. As usual, wonderful drinks service with delicious cocktails at the bar hall. In terms of any recommendations these are very niche but perhaps would be good for the teen den to have more opening hours during the day. Also, would be nice in the suite if the glasses were changed as these were supplied at the start of the week and only us washing them in the bathroom sink was the only available option. Also, perhaps a few more facilities in the suite to warrant the upgrade too for instance better location of a socket for the kettle, perhaps a microwave but these are minor suggestions. We love this hotel and the countdown is on as booked for next July!!

The BEST trip - can I go back?! Honestly, I have to question the bad reviews — were they even staying in the same hotel? Their experience doesn’t match ours at all. We were a party of 8 staying all inclusive, and staff throughout the hotel were fantastic — could never do enough for anyone. Special mention to Miguel and his towel-policing team, the activity team, bar staff (all over the hotel), reception, housekeeping and the restaurant staff. The only time we saw people getting frustrated was those arriving at 10:20am when breakfast closed at 10:30 (it reopens at 12pm for lunch) — sorry, but you’ve got to expect that, 5* or not, the world doesn’t revolve around you! Staff & service: Tireless — we never had an empty glass or a dirty table or lack of a smile at mealtimes. I expect if you’re rude, then you can’t expect to always receive service with a smile - they are human not robots and I assume will only take so much. Sunbeds: Plenty available, policed before the 10am opening — unless you’re sat on it, your towel gets moved. Beds nearest the main pools/bars go first, as you’d expect. All inclusive: As all-inclusive as any other 5* hotel. Sweets are available at meal times, and extras purchasable with premium branded ice creams in a hut by the pool ( as with 99.9% of hotels) or scooped ice cream are available for AI by the pool all day. Drinks are strong (we asked for less, not being big drinkers). Many premium cocktails carry a cost but are heavily discounted for all-inclusive guests, and this seems to only apply at the rooftop bar — plenty of other choice elsewhere, so no real excuse to complain. Pools: Lovely, not very deep, a nice initial chill after sunbathing in the heat that dissipates fast. Floor gets hot between pool and sunbeds — bring water shoes. Food: Delicious, fresh and varied. Fresh prawns, sometimes langoustine, crab, tuna steak, sole — freshly prepared. Salads were divine, pizza and pasta daily (fresh pasta station every evening), a different theme each night, and a serious dessert selection. Scrambled eggs and omelettes at breakfast were lush. Honestly can’t imagine anyone not finding something they like. Rooms: Super clean, well stocked with shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. Constructive feedback (raised directly with the hotel, who were receptive): • Room water, if used when housekeeping visits, should be replenished/re-chilled — though it arrived promptly whenever we asked. • Bedroom towels are a little worn, some with minor fraying, though still clean. • Air conditioning underperformed — dials showed 16°C on full fans, but the room never got that cool. Not unbearable, just not as cool as advertised, and I’d have liked it colder after weeks of UK heatwaves. None of this is a big complaint more constructive feedback and splitting hairs (less the aircon) — the hotel appreciated the feedback, have shared it with the relevant HODs to look into; we know these things take time. We also saw this hotel has equipment to help disabled guests in and out of the pools on request — my dad hired a wheelchair for getting around given how big the hotel is, and we were all really well looked after at all times no request was too big. We also had a very late flight home and were able to pay to extend one of our rooms for a later checkout, which was a huge help. A final word: the GF Gran Costa Adeje remains a family business — I believe the second generation is now leading as CEO — not a huge international corporate chain. They’re an SME committed to Canarian roots, bringing money, jobs and pride to the local area. Not many family-run businesses survive in the luxury hotel industry, so this deserves support. We’ll be back — it’s become a familiar, reliable spot for us. Well done to the whole team, and to anyone considering a stay: if you’re kind, polite and courteous, you’ll get that back. We didn’t experience a shred of rudeness — quite the opposite. Thanks again to all the staff and to the lovely guests we met whilst staying too. Our kids helped some smaller kids retrieve their glow toys from the tall trees one evening, saving tears and extra money being spent 😝

I’m writing this review on our last full day here. It is our third visit (twice were before the refit). We are not disappointed., the 10 days have flown, we are sad to leave.The rooms have been refurbished to a lovely standard. The bathrooms are very spacious with a great walk in shower. The fridge is great for keeping drinks and milk chilled. Perhaps just advertise it as a fridge rather than the confusing description of mini bar. That would stop people complaining that it isn’t stocked. The restaurant offers enough variety to satisfy even the fussiest eaters. With regards to the complaints of cold food; it’s all about planning the order you collect things. Queue for the cooked to order items first then quickly get your veg etc. We haven’t found the staff unpleasant like some people have mentioned. They have all been polite, helpful and quick to return any smile that is bestowed on them (maybe with the exception of one older lady on the pool bar, she’s rather abrupt). If you try to communicate with them in Spanish they are even more friendly. The evening entertainment is a little stale, we have seen the same acts on previous visits here. The animation team are very hardworking, trying their best to ensure you have a fun holiday. The no reserving sun beds policy works well because the hotel follow up on this. No need to get up at stupid o clock in the morning to get a sun bed. We went for breakfast at 8am then strolled out to a big selection of empty sun loungers. The pools were a pleasant temperature. The mini golf has been renewed, a big improvement. We have just had a call from reception asking if we needed an early breakfast tomorrow or a packed lunch or help with the cases which was a nice touch. The new Jungle bar is a lovely addition, so calm up there with great views. Two great barmen too. Looking forward to visiting this fantastic hotel again sometime.

We had a lovely holiday in the GF Gran Hotel. Very important for my relaxing holiday , the staff were absolutely lovely and couldn’t do enough for us. Location, there is a beautiful beach just down the road and loads of shops all around. Hotel design is amazing. The . adults only pool and bar up top has some amazing views. We visited the cocktail bar after 5pm, that’s was very relaxing. We enjoyed are time more down by the main pools . Drinks were top brand labels. Bar staff did a great job. Entertainment was ok. A good variety of acts. The gym was very good and I used it every day. The activities during the day were a bit quiet. I ended up playing darts with just the two new guys. I think people like to see the boards with the activities for that day and not using the hotel app. Everything very clean and tidy. Reception staff were very friendly and helpful . So breakfast was lovely, I had a freshly made omelette every morning and the coffee was great. Plenty to choose from. I found dinner in the evening a bit hit and miss. Either no labels to say what you were eating or in the wrong place. Show cooking was a bit of a joke. You were given enough to feed a mouse. You could have some fresh pasta made for you and ask for a variety of ingredients. That went down well. You won’t starve. If you have a curry event you then expect some of the food to actually taste of curry. The plants inside the hotel were great to see. The market over the road was a very popular event. Would I go back here again. Yes absolutely.
