Locanda Al Leon

Stayed at the Locanda al Leon for three nights at the end of March 2026. The location of the hotel could not be more ideally located. Literally a 3 minute walk to St Marks Basillica / Doge’s Palace. The hotel is closely located to bars / coffee shops / restaurants as well. The rooms are traditionally decorated and quite basic, but lovely and clean (with comfortable bed!) Breakfast was basic continental but there was a selection of fruit, yoghurt, breads and cereals. The staff were friendly and helpful 😊 overall, a great little hotel, set in the heart of Venice, what more could you ask for?

What a fabulous little gem of a hotel. Great location just a stones throw from San Marco and five min from rialto. The most comfortable bed! Friendly staff too!

What a hotel! Authentic, clean, amazing staff and so close to St Marks square! We arrived by Water taxi (privately booked), were directed to the alley from the river and could not believe how close it was. On arrival we paid the tourist tax (very reasonable!) and were shown to our room. The 15th Century building has been restored tastefully and authentically from the material walls to the Murano light fittings and gorgeous shutters. We were given a key to the hotel as well as our room and shown where the breakfast room was. As a traveller party of 3 we had a perfect spacious room; double bed with side room off with the comfiest sofa bed I’ve ever slept on! The sheets were changed after two days which was unbelievable! The bathroom was perfect size and had everything we needed, the toiletries were a nice touch. The fridge in the room came in handy too and they offer water for €2 per bottle which is very fair. The breakfast was Continental and had everything needed; cereal, fruit, cheese, ham, toast, fresh rolls, yoghurts, could eggs and the staff made hot drinks on request. Perfect start to the day! As you walk out of the hotel there is a bakery opposite which is lovely and always busy. To the left is a little square with amazing eateries (also reasonable), shops and bars. If you go left into the square and left through the shops, follow the footpath over the bridge you can be in St Marks square in 5 minutes! As we were leaving early on departure day, we spoke to staff who arranged a basket of croissants and a bag of biscuits for the night before our departure. Marcella is great and helped us with advice on arranging local transport while we were visiting and directions, her staff are phenomenal as well. We will definitely be returning.

Lovely experience. Family owned and operated with great breakfast. Very close to St Marc Square, the Valporetto landing, and the water bus from the airport. The hotel is located in a small square with restaurants and stores. Great location

Lovely hotel. Great location. Large spacious room with private bathroom. There was a safe, fridge, kettle and hairdryer (not very modern or powerful). The aircon was great especially as very hot and humid in June. We received a very friendly greeting on arrival and were shown to our room which was in the annex just down the same street. We were able to leave our bags on check out day until it was nearer time to go to airport which was a great help. Situated just off St Marks square it was a fabulous base to get to into the heart of the city or the waterbus to venture further afield. Bed was extremely comfortable and we slept well. Private bathroom. Which had a large shower. Plenty of towels. Has a small inner courtyard so you can sit out. Would definitely stay here again.
