Legends Beach Resort

Just got back from a four day stay at Legends. Still not sure how I feel about the vacation.... The beach and people are amazing. The room was comfortable. Sunwing vacations site calls this hotel "Legends Beach Resort", while Tripadvisor here calls it Legends Beach Hotel. It is much more a hotel than resort. Honestly, any failings are due to Sunwing not advertising amenities honestly or ensuring they partner with properties which meet certain basic requirements. The For context, we booked the All Inclusive option and have traveled to numerous AI resorts throughout Cuba, DR, Mexico and St. Maarten. The good: It's a small, walkable resort that is easy to get around. We were on the beach side, and the bed was super comfortable. The view from the ONE restaurant at the resort was amazing. The beach was fabulous with great swimming. The staff at the restaurant, from the manger to the wait staff to the chefs are the highlights of this resort. Rooms are a little dated, but kept very clean. We enjoyed the drinks under the all inclusive plan. The patties sold by a man on the beach are SO good! The less than good: Arrival is not like other resorts where the bus pulls up under an awning and you walk straight in to the main lobby with staff to greet you. The shuttle stopped on the side of the road, driver honked his horn and pointed through the gate, saying, "go there", pointing in the direction of the hotel office. You then have to roll your suitcases through potholes while you try to figure out where he was pointing before you find the office. No beach towels were available. I have encountered towel shortages in Cuba or DR in high season d/t volumes, but you could keep your towel until they next had clean ones. Sunwing needs to make it clear in their ads that beach towels are NOT provided. The Sunwing ads stated there are two restaurants on site. One restaurant is a five minute shuttle ride away at Samsara Cliff resort. The Samsara guests we spoke to said it wasn't worth the trip there. So we stayed onsite and ate at the beach restaurant. Wine is not included in the All-inclusive plan (again not explicitly stated by Sunwing). I've never been to a resort with an AI plan that did not include wine. $37USD for a bottle if you want one. The All-inclusive buffet options were severely limited compared to any other AI resort I've been to in Cuba, DR, Mexico or St. Maarten. There are five hot dish options, with a soup or porridge, and maybe some cold fruit at breakfast. The buffet is not self-serve though. You must wait for the chef to dish your selections for you. The buffet needs reconfiguration, so that you don't have to wait for the overworked chef to serve you whichever foods you choose, especially at breakfast, when she is also making omelettes. If you set the chef apart from the buffet, at an omelette station and let guests serve their own hot items, they would not have to wait a half hour if they only want the sausage, bacon or hash browns. Meats, cheeses and breads would also be appreciated as a lunch option. The one pool I saw on the beach side is quite small with few loungers. Two families using it made it look full to capacity. (It wasn't an issue for me because I prefer the beach for swimming. I don't like large pools with swim-up bars with guests who sit and drink all day and never leave to use the restroom.) There is nowhere in the resort to get even a glass of water after the restaurant closes at 10pm. Again, most of the people were super friendly. I think my iffy review is mostly based on my expectations because of previous experience with all-inclusive resorts. I've been to 3* AIs in Cuba which had beach towels, a welcoming staff, a lobby bar open 24 hours and beach towels. But honestly, by the end of the week, the fact that the walk from our room through the restaurant to the beach was two minutes, tops kind of grew on me. Friendly tip is to ensure you bring an insulated tumbler to keep drinks cold, and a beach towel or two.

The hotel, while very rustic, was good enough for us! The beach was the most amazing thing to see after a Wisconsin winter! Be careful of your personal items. We had a bag stolen off the chairs, while we were watching the starfish come in at dusk ( one night was 20, one night 32)! Thank goodness we only had one phone in the bag. We tracked it with our other phone, got two police departments involved, and got his phone back. Unfortunately the thief, got my bag, Fitbit, money and clothes! If you see anybody wearing a bright pink Punta Cana shirt, tell them I want my Fitbit back! 😆 BIG shoutout to (Bongo) Dean Robertson, taxi driver, and very humble human being! He was with us from the start of this whole ordeal! A $10.00 ride to the police station, turned into an hour ride to another police station and then waiting time while they arrested the guy who was in possession of the stolen phone. We get back to our hotel and we said how much do we owe….he said $60.00, you have your own problems! Well, I tipped him well, and thanked him for spending about 4 hours with us!!

We were charmed by the waitress Vanessa. Best employe at the hotel. She was attentive and courteous, always smiling and ensuring our comfort. A real gem for this hotel. And let's not forget the big chef, O'Neil. He made sure that we dont miss anything. Very professional and welcoming. A big thank you!

Great location on 7 mile beach but only 6 umbrellas for 30 odd chairs so no shade on the beach. All inclusive? Super deluxe room booked No pool towels provided No fridge in room (can rent $12 a day) Bar shuts at 10pm Drinks are very cheap and undrinkable, everything loaded with sugar. Bar lady Jennifer very rude, (another review said her names Mary, that is because me & my friend nick named her scarey Mary) I don’t think she likes people. The waitress staff were very lovely and friendly. The food was awful Mostly chips, overcooked pasta, burgers Not what I was expecting in Jamaica Transferred to sister hotel Samsara which was a simple process (luckily had a room available) Staff much friendlier, food a little better cooked but same choices with the added bonus of a fresher salad Last day we bought out own tinned tuna to eat with a requested salad. Did meet some lovely people at both hotels Tina at Samsara outstanding service Always a smile And the girls working the restaurant at Legends were brilliant, can’t fault them Great sunsets from legends Spectacular sunsets from samsara

I will admit after reading some of the reviews on here before we traveled we were skeptical. I told my wife when we got home i would write a quick review. ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC FAMILY VACATION! Staff, Beach, Food Etc...all AMAZING! We took our two kids (13 and 16) they are picky and only eat McDonald's so imagine our stress, they ate like champs! There is a side menu option if you don't want the normal buffet items so they ate fries, cheese pizzas (made fresh for them) grilled cheese, bacon, toast, eggs in the morning etc...Rooms have all you need, pools decent, beach AMAZING and the staff AMAZING! My wife and I loved the experience and so did my picky kids ( just being honest here). If you need 6 pools and swim up bars and marble everywhere for your "likes and followers" go to Sandals, if you want and awesome place, good eats and drinks for all, standard rooms, pools and an AMAZING STAFF AND EXPERIENCE GO HERE! I hope this helps families travel safe:)
