10 Days at Villa Park Sun Island – A Detailed Review Overall, we had a very positive experience at Villa Park Sun Island, and I genuinely love the whole “private island resort getaway” concept. That said, I like to review things thoroughly and honestly, so here’s a breakdown of what stood out as excellent, what felt average, and what could definitely improve. Room – Cleaning & Service = 5/5+ If I could give this a 6/5, I would. We stayed in a Lagoon Villa, which was beautifully located with direct access to a small beach area that felt fairly private (although the villas are still close to each other). The housekeeping was exceptional. Our cleaning lady was incredibly friendly, attentive, and detail-oriented. She paid attention to small things we did ourselves and improved on them every single day. For example, since I dislike getting sand everywhere, we placed towels near the beach entrance and outdoor shower to use as makeshift doormats. Every day she replaced them neatly and even added extra ones by the main entrance. Another example: we drank a lot of water, and by the next day she had already started leaving extra bottles for us without us even asking. Small details like that made the experience feel truly premium. Overall Service Around the Resort = Mixed (“50/50”) This is where the biggest differences appeared. Buffet Area The service here depended heavily on who was working. Some waiters were polite but seemed disengaged — standing around looking tired, sometimes even checking their phones instead of paying attention to guests. Others, however, were fantastic: proactive, attentive, checking in on tables, bringing drinks and coffee, and making guests feel genuinely welcomed. The chefs and kitchen staff were generally excellent. They seemed proud of their food and eager to help. The only concern was that a few struggled with English, which could potentially become an issue regarding allergies or dietary restrictions. Around the Island Buggies / Transportation Transportation around the island worked reasonably well, although considering how small the island is, it could have been smoother. One concern: I noticed two drivers using their phones while driving, which caused a few sudden brakes near pedestrians on the narrow pathways. Definitely something management should address. Thai Restaurant Absolutely excellent. Everything from the food to the service and atmosphere was top-tier. Easily one of the highlights of the trip. Excursion Staff Unfortunately, this was one of the few genuinely bad experiences during our stay. We joined the “Safari Express” excursion. One guide, Eric, was professional, informative, and very friendly — huge credit to him. The second guide, Mohammed (who seemed to be a trainee), unfortunately made the experience unnecessarily unpleasant from the very beginning. He came across as rude and unprofessional, and several people on the boat discussed filing a formal complaint afterward because we felt concerned he could negatively affect future guests’ experiences. Ironically, the excursion itself was incredible — we saw whale sharks, turtles, rays, and more — but the poor service still managed to impact the overall experience. Snorkeling & House Reef The lifeguard at the reef area (special thanks to Sanil) was fantastic — attentive, informative, and always alert. The marine life was amazing: Blacktip and whitetip reef sharks Nurse sharks A zebra shark (once!) Turtles Rays Moray eels Octopus Tons of tropical fish We even saw dolphins twice, although staff told us that’s fairly rare. One thing worth noting: It felt like the best snorkeling area was near the Italian restaurant. From there, you had to swim about 100 meters before reaching the healthier and more vibrant coral reef sections. Bird Area / Animal Welfare This was honestly heartbreaking. The island has a bird area with many large birds kept in very small cages in what felt like a poor environment overall. Seeing beautiful birds confined in tiny spaces really took away from the luxury experience. I sincerely hope the resort either improves the conditions significantly or rethinks the entire setup. Beaches The beaches were generally very clean and beautiful. However, some areas had broken coral washed ashore, which can be sharp to walk on, so bringing water shoes is a good idea. Also worth mentioning: I saw many tourists stepping directly on healthy coral while snorkeling. Coral reefs are extremely fragile, and guests should be better informed about protecting marine life.

Hello everyone, This is our seventh stay in the Maldives, and our fourth at Villa Resort. It’s our favorite place – a wonderful island and wonderful people are what make this place great. This year, when we arrived and checked into the water villas, we had an unpleasant surprise: the Southern Restaurant was closed. It was a very important part of our much-looked-forward-to holiday. We were forced to dine in the main restaurant, where the food isn’t as good as in the Southern Restaurant. What bothers us the most is the lack of fruits like mangosteen and mango, which we were used to in the restaurant designated for water villa guests. We noticed that the villas haven’t been renovated in a long time and need refurbishment, especially on the outside. Inside could also use an upgrade. We don’t want our opinion to sound like we aren’t happy with the stay, because that would be completely untrue. As always, what makes our stay great is the wonderful location, the beautiful Maldivian nature, and the amazing people who make sure our holiday here is as good as possible. We would like to sincerely thank the wonderful staff in the restaurant who served us and prepared the meals. We would also like to give special thanks to Ani, the yoga instructor, and the entire gym and fitness class staff. We can’t wait to visit this little paradise again, and we hope that on our next visit everything will be back to the way we’re used to.
