SALT of Palmar

From the moment I checked in, to the moment I checked out, I received dedicated 5-stars service. The mattress was too soft for my back and as soon as I informed Housekeeping, I got transferred to another room with a harder mattress. At the restaurant: great choice of menu and delicious pastries. As a foodie and fussy eater I was nicely surprised that the meals were kindly and promptly adjusted to my liking. At the pool and beach: a gentleman goes around cleaning our sun glasses and there is a 50 SPF sunscreen dispenser. The room is ok. Great customer experience overall. I understand why it is one of the most recommended hotels of the island

Palmar review. We have just returned home after staying 10 fabulous days at Salt of Palmar. From the moment we arrived we were treated like royalty. Our room was very spacious and designed with plenty of storage space, even for our luggage too. Great spacious shower area with all the products and amenities you need. No need to bring anything from home. The bed, which was so comfortable was like sleeping on a cloud and was facing a wonderful view. We decided to upgrade all an inclusive package, when we arrived (which is well worth doing) My husband is a mainly a meat eater, but Executive Chef Shiva understood this and his team of wonderful chefs went out of their way to provide the most enjoyable alternative dishes for him, but yo be fair, there were lots of choices on the menu which were fine for him. We were so impressed with the food, which is superb and is cooked fresh and served to order. The fresh fish caught daily, herbs and vegetables from the chefs garden plus their incredible creativity creates the most amazing menu. My husband tasted various foods options that he has never tried before and he loved them. We also ate at Tek Tek cooked and served by Sous Chef Ravi. He put on an amazing evening for us as we all sat around and watched him cook a delicious 6 course menu. It was superb. The service from all of the whole of the staff was amazing throughout. Nothing is too much trouble. Everyone is greeted by smiles and the utmost respect. The staff even organized a romantic candle lit dinner for us, near the beach one evening which was so lovely and also organized an amazing head massage at the spa for me as I’d had a few migraines. The hotel grounds , pool area and beach are impeccable. Plenty of sunbeds, towels and drink station for ice cold still & sparkling water & and choice of accompanying herbs for fusion. Plus the lovely outdoor bathroom provides hand and sun lotion for all. We had the most amazing romantic holiday. Our special thanks go firstly to General Manager Raj Reedoy who we had the pleasure of meeting. He educated us about the wonderful people of Mauritius, the island, and the culture and strategy of Salt and he how he is leading the charge and hotel culture of services excellence. To Executive Chef Shiva Moonien, who educated us on the fantastic benefits of using and fusing herbs in his recipes and drinks from his wonderful herb garden. To Sous Chef Ravi, who produced the fabulous Tek Tek evening. And also Special thanks to Med and his fantastic team of waiters. to Vikas, Brahm, Heero, Sharvind, Reetesh , Bool, and Darvin for their warmth and outstanding service. For anyone reading this review we would highly recommend Salt of Palmar and you will not be disappointed. We would return in a heartbeat. Included are a few photo memories.

Honestly, this hotel is amazing, but the food massively lets it down. The hotel looks beautiful, the common areas and pool were very clean, and the staff are super friendly and attentive. The spa and yoga were both highlights, along with the stunning views and beach access. A few operational gripes: the app wasn’t explained on arrival and I only discovered it days in — a reminder note on the back of the room door would go a long way. They also need a proper 24/7 reception desk. I was wandering around the hotel trying to find someone to check me out at 4am — and to make matters worse, we had been promised a packed breakfast for our early departure, which never materialised. A small fridge should also be standard in every room — guests need somewhere to store drinks, skincare, water, and so on, and having to request one in a 5-star hotel is frustrating. On the room: the bathroom toilet — which luckily had a door — smelled strongly of damp and sewage. We chose not to complain as I’d already unpacked and moving rooms would have been a huge hassle, but this should absolutely be caught by staff before any guest checks in. We went with the room-only option and I’m really glad we did. The food is where it all falls apart. You’re paying heavily inflated tourist prices — 500 rupees for a bowl of cheap frozen fries, 1,200 for a disappointing margherita pizza — for quality that feels like the bare minimum they can get away with, which is frankly insulting. The Mauritian night menu was no better; I asked for the food to be spicy because I wanted the authentic local experience, and was told the flavour is already mixed in. The dessert was a crushed poppadom on a plate with a base that tasted of soap. I also heard that all-inclusive guests are charged extra for certain food and drinks, which seems genuinely unfair. Fortunately, we had hired a car, so we ate out at a local shopping mall a few times and picked up food from the supermarket. The billing also left something to be desired. Our final bill included unexplained charges listed as some kind of eco levy, and when I used my spa voucher, only half of it was honoured without any explanation. For a hotel at this price point, transparency around charges should be a given. A hotel this beautiful has every opportunity to stand out — but they need to strip things back to basics, use quality ingredients, and prioritise actual flavour. Get the food right, sort out the billing, and this place would be genuinely hard to fault.

What a beautiful hotel. The food was amazing, the menu was big enough to try something new every day. Staff are very friendly and hospitable. They host activities like yoga, stretch, art and food classes. Rooms are lovely, beds and pillows very comfortable. There are no TVs but you dont miss it. The views from the rooms are so beautiful. Large pool, warm water. It is about an hour from the airport. Probably a quieter location than north side, but the beaches are stunning on the east coast.
