We recently spent a week at the Akumal Bay Beach & Wellness Resort. This was our first stay at the resort and we were not disappointed! The staff - of which there are many - are very friendly and helpful. We didn't go on any of the off site tours, but there were plenty of activities to keep us busy at the resort. The yoga classes, which I did every day while my husband when to the gym, were outstanding. The instructors I had (Barbara and Hamim) were attentive to all of the participants and explained all of the poses. I would go back just for the yoga! We also did aquafit, spanish lessons and painting lessons. Snorkelling was very easy from the beach, although the wind and sargassum were intense for a couple of days, but that's nature, especially this year, and is to be expected anymore in the Gulf, or anywhere in the Caribbean. The hotel did an excellent job of clearing the sargassum from the beach early in the morning every day. We ate at one of the 4 restaurants every evening and the food was amazing. We usually didn't have to wait for a table and when we did, it was fine, as we enjoyed the evening breezes while we waited. There is plenty of seating in the buffet area and food choices were plentiful. We were in building 4, so it was very quiet and the short walk to the main area among the palm trees was enjoyable. We had a penthouse room (the only one left available when we booked, which was early Feb. for early our March stay) and the room was very spacious and clean. Gazing at the clear night sky from the rooftop was a bonus. We didn't have any problems getting beach towels each day and if there weren't any, it wasn't long before a new pile came out. Getting a beach or pool chair wasn't always easy, but the staff would remove towels that had been on chairs unattended for hours if you asked. This is a fault of the guests, not the resort. We felt there was perfect mix of ages and groups (young couples, families, retired folks) and the place has a nice, relaxed vibe. One thing we would do differently, is hire private transportation to get from the airport to the hotel. Although our tour company said we would be transported directly from the airport to the hotel, we had to wait 45 min. on the coach at the airport for other passengers and we made 3 stops at other resorts on the way so it took over 2 hours from the time we got on the coach to when we arrived at the resort. Returning to the airport was fine, as we were the first pick up and there were only 2 stops. Something to consider though. It was a wonderful trip and we hope to return again to Akumal Bay!

Amazing location and view, great service. No room service and food wasn’t as amazing as I had hoped. I would rate food 2.5. It was very clean but no fault to the hotel but our neighbour was a family with very little kids and there was constant screaming and we got woke up every morning. Half way through a family moved in above us as well which was more hit and miss on noise. Also a lot wasn't advertised and we missed getting to see some stuff until last day. Also the free snorkelling was cool but it did not include a snorkel.. just a mask and life jacket really wish that was stated I would have brought one.
