I want to start praising the staff. Every employee was absolutely fantastic, incredibly helpful, and polite. Unfortunately, management is letting the team down in two major areas. First, the resort completely fails to enforce Mexico's strict federal anti-smoking laws. I was constantly annoyed by guests smoking on the balconies/halls, at the Sushi Bar where the smoke ended up annoying everyone in the pool. Staff did not reinforce the rules at all. Second, there was a not so heavy buildup of sargassum (seaweed) when I was there that frankly did not seem to require truck loading. It is right near the beachfront dining area, and the the trucks (and sargassum) odor was unpleasant while we were eating. While I understand the seaweed is an act of nature, the current removal method is flawed. The resort uses massive, heavy trucks that scrape up the sand, which is rapidly eroding and shrinking what is already a small beach. As a constructive suggestion, management should consider manually burying the fresh sargassum under the top layer of sand further up the beach (beach nourishment) or using low-impact electric carts. Burying it would instantly trap the foul smell, stop the trucks from destroying the small beach profile, and naturally help rebuild the shoreline from erosion. I love the hospitality, but management needs to step up on health laws and smarter eco-management.

We loved Akumal Bay! The resort is beautiful and does a great job of showcasing the beach and jungle and making it feel very outdoorsy. The staff were all very warm and helpful especially Omero, Marissa, Danielea, and Alan. We loved lounging in the infinity pools and watching the waves. All of the cute creatures around on the porches were a great bonus. Would definitely recommend booking the airport ride directly from them it made it so easy. If I had any complaints (and they are tiny!) it would be there is no ATM on site so if you run out of cash and would like to tip you have to leave and the blow dryer is very very weak. Not a huge deal for a relaxation focused trip but if you are the type to really like having your hair done for dinner, I’d recommend bringing your own. Note: We had friends staying at Secrets next door and popped by several times and found Akumal Bay to be prettier with a MUCH better and warmer staff. It’s smaller and feels more intimate.

To start, we loved this place, we came 2016,2022 and 2026! 5 visits in total to Mexico. Fell in love with EVERYTHING this hotel/ resort gave us in 2016 and 2022, but having returned from 2 weeks there in September 2026 I feel we need to be honest . Our first week was for sure under occupied, which for us was nice, we don’t mind the quiet. The staff as always were attentive and helpful, all of them. The food left a lot to be desired😢 First week the OJ was watered down in the buffet , this became apparent when 2nd week it actually tasted like fresh OJ, in the first week it was like cordial. Not much variation on the food, no hot carvery, no cold fresh seafood displays, everyday was pizza, burgers,fries, chicken slices, pork slices pasta station limited salad, no ice cream station, no bread station, breakfast seemed to always be waiting for more bacon to come from the kitchen, which it did always come out but not in abundance. Second week however ice cream station and bread station was put in place. We do understand when low occupancy it’s difficult but we thought we knew what to expect and was disappointed. Our only saving grace was the snack bar and the chicken wings, they were lovely. We did eat in the restaurants but again it fell short of our expectations , staff amazing, food not so great for us, and we are definetly not picky foodies. 🌮 The rooms are amazing and fully equipped with everything you need, big plus for us having Netflix as standard, we were rained in for 36 hours and could do nothing else but hold out in our room, which is not an issue, we work hard at home so it gave us time to chill and catch up on sleep. The rain lasted 36 hours with no let up, of course nothing can be done with regards the weather, we been June / September before and always landed lucky with brief rain showers and wonderful lightning shows. The seaweed was bad, worse than we ever seen before, and they were working hard to clear it as much as they could. When we compare our pictures from 2016 till this year we could easily see how the beach is eroding, which is so sad. We couldn’t snorkel much as the seaweed was making the water murky, this is one of things on holiday we love to do, so it really left us to sit on the Sunbeds on the beach. I don’t want to be too critical but feel we need to be honest. The hotel is amazing, but for us we know we won’t return. We loved Mexico. We have been 5 times in all. The hotel is wonderful, but we feel it fell short on the food side. The drinks were ok, second week I asked if I could have another type of gin, and they offered Tanqery ! Wish I knew that in the first week. All in all.. if you’ve booked to go, you’ll have a fab time, but be mindful of the seasons , maybe this year it was a little too quiet for us and food was definetly a negative. 🇲🇽🍸🥂🇲🇽✈️

The Location was fabulous, the 1st thing that we noticed was how peaceful and relaxed it was, We got a Drink on arrival at reception along with a very warm welcome. The staff everywhere in the hotel were warm & friendly and found they went out of the way to be helpful, Hola whenever we passed anyone by. The food was lovely with so much choice on offer. The Room was lovely, clean & modern with lots of sockets for plugs also USB & USC PORTS, The hot tub on the Balcony was great & made use of that a couple of times. Was sad to leave & would most definitely return there.
