Akumal Bay Resort

Recently returned from a fabulous holiday at Akumal Bay resort,if I could give 6 stars I would. From setting foot in the reception area we were treated with a welcome we will never forget and that amazing friendliness of everyone we encountered was a thing we experienced every minute of our stay.Alan ,the guest concierge,is a guy who was born into that role,nothing was ever too much trouble, Alan always found time for a chat and we assured him that when we return to Mexico, it will be to Akumal Bay without hesitation. All the staff,too numerous to name, where so welcoming and so friendly it really was hard saying goodbye. Hasta luego Amigos ❤️❤️

I stayed at Akumal Bay Beach & Wellness Resort for 10 days in May with my 12-year-old son, and it was a truly fantastic vacation. What made our stay especially memorable was the Entertainment Team. A huge thank you to Alejandro, Gonzalo, Christopher, and all the other team members whose names I unfortunately can’t remember. They were incredibly engaged, energetic, and genuinely cared about making every guest feel included and have a great time. My son absolutely loved them. They spent time with him doing activities such as stand-up paddleboarding, volleyball, and many other games and events throughout the day. Their enthusiasm and kindness made a huge difference to his holiday experience. While my son was happily participating in activities, I was able to enjoy the yoga classes with great instructors offering different styles of yoga as well as meditation sessions at convenient times throughout the day. It was the perfect opportunity to relax, recharge, and fully enjoy my vacation. The combination of a beautiful location, friendly atmosphere, and outstanding staff made this a very special trip for us. We left with wonderful memories and would be delighted to return in the future.

After months of researching the perfect location in Riviera Maya, we decided to book a 5 night stay at Akumal Bay Beach Resort to celebrate my husband’s 40th birthday. I had very high hopes after reading all the reviews but to say we were disappointed would be a huge understatement. On our first night there we realized the AC was not working properly and had somewhat of a moldy smell to it. The next morning, I spoke to the front desk and they moved us to a new room which turned out to be way worse. When we entered the 2nd room we noticed they had sprayed a ton of air freshener. I later realized this was done to cover the extremely moldy smell coming out of the AC. During our stay my family and I developed a really bad cough/cold from the smell. We had to leave the balcony door open to air out the room and placed the play pen where my daughter was sleeping in the bathroom since there was no AC in there and it was the only area that did not smell. On our second day there, as we got ready for my husband’s birthday dinner we realized we’d been robbed. We were completely in shock, we travel often and this had never happened to us before. Money, a debit card, my wedding band and my gold ring had all been stolen from our room, all in our first day of being there. Hotel personnel had entered our room to check the AC and to bring a play pen for my 1 year old daughter to sleep in. My husband counted the bills in his wallet the first night we got there so we are sure our things were stolen at the resort. We filed a report with the PR department, they conducted an investigation that took 3 days and ultimately led to nothing. After all was said and done, the director told us we could not prove our things had been stolen at the resort. They had little interest and were skeptical of all the proof we laid out (it was very evident). To add insult to injury, we were told we’d receive a 100 dollar credit at the gift shop as a token of goodwill. Upon checkout the receptionist charged me for the $100 worth of items I’d picked out. The night manager at the time – Luis Enrique – came over and addressed the error. He said I would see the amount credited that day. I never received it. When I called the resort to ask about it, Elvira in PR told me that I did not sign a form accepting the credit from the resort. According to her, there was an authorization form I had to sign where I accepted the credit. No one mentioned this, we were not made aware of it. I would not have stepped foot in that gift shop had I not received this “token of good will”. I will say that the rest of the resort staff and restaurants were very nice but I do not recommend staying here. Upper management has a lot of work to do when it comes to room maintenance and dealing with theft. They handled the situation terribly, zero integrity and zero accountability. This is not at all the experience I expect from a resort that calls itself 5 star.

This was our third visit to Akumal Bay Beach Resort. This time we found the buffet to have some really great dishes, and the a la cartes to be (mostly) great. The steakhouse, while fine on its own, used to be a Churrascaria, and we were looking forward to it from the last visit. I suppose it was changed to a regular style restaurant as a cost saving measure, as the price of everything is skyrocketing. For us, we'd rather pay something more and have the Churrascaria as it was. Many guests I spoke with felt the same. Of special note, I was speaking with buffet Capitan Hugo Perez, inquiring if they ever put Chile Rellenos or similar on the buffet rotation. He asked chef Jesus Espinosa to join the conversation. The answer was no, but the chef said he'd be happy to make us a couple plates, but as he had to gather a few ingredients, he said he'd prepare the dish the next night. Sure enough when we arrived at the buffet at the agreed time the next evening, he sent out 2 plates of freshly made Chiles en Nogada, They were absolutely delightful, flavourful, and the chef even prepared 2 different sauces. These guys really went out of their way to prepare a unexpected treat. Very very much appreciated. All of the staff at this hotel are exceptional, pleasant, cheerful, always working hard making things the best they can be. Everything everywhere was clean all the time, the room was in good working order, A/C, lights, plumbing, clean fresh towels, bedding, etc no issues no problems. We enjoyed our stay, hope to return in 2027. Gracias eveyone at Akumal Bay.

We returned to the resort for our 10 year anniversary and are so glad we did! It was just as lovely as we remembered and the staff is absolutely amazing. We did a photo shoot with Santos and he did a great job. 10 out of 10!
