Bahia Principe Grand Tulum

After a long day of travel, including 2 hrs via "milk run" shuttle from the Airport - our group of 4 arrived at 9:30 pm. We were told to hurry to the buffet before it closed at 10pm as there is NO room service. We choked down cold left overs We could NOT get 1 glass of wine anywhere on the property that night (tried our best) - NOR could we get more than 2 a la carte dinner reservations for our 9 night stay. All were completely taken. We were assigned ground level rooms with no privacy on the patios. Complaining to the front desk staff got us nowhere, staff did not seem to care. We met with a Manager (Lizbeth) who re-assigned us to new rooms on our 3rd day and also managed to get us a 3rd dinner reservation. We appreciated her help. The main pool played very loud music with a booming bass that vibrated thru the resort all day, including in our room a few nights. We enjoyed using the smaller + quietest pool - however, there were no close snack areas near it. The barstaff at this pool were wonderful but there is not waitstaff at the pools. Housekeeping was wonderful, rooms were very clean. Property was clean with beautiful landscaping and easy beach access. The FOOD was NOT very good, with the one exception being the Brazzilian restaurant. Their wines were from Spain but under par. We will not return to this particular resort; We've been to 12 Mexican All-Inclusives in various areas, and based on past experiences I give this one 3 stars at best. In fact, some 3-stars may be better than this property, and at a much lower price.

Just returned from our Spring Break 2026. Here are my overall thoughts on this trip and resort. 3/5 Arrival at Cancun airport: Easy access to Air Canada bus transfer. Our Hotel, the Grand Bahia Principe Tulum was the last stop out of all the hotels (Furthest from the airport). This was a 1 hour 20 minute bus ride. Not the end of the world but would have looked into a private driver had we known. 5/5 Check-In: Very accommodating as we were 4 so we booked 2 rooms. They gave us rooms side by side near the quiet pool in building 40. Front desk were very friendly. 4/5 Rooms: Rooms are more than adequate. They were clean, TV worked fine, AC was working fine and had no issues with kids bracelets for room entry or my key card. Mini bar not filled by cleaning lady. You need to call someone for that at Guest Services. 5/5 Food: Tons of choice at the buffet from salads, meats, fish, Mexican station, grills, pasta bar, omelette station in the morning. There are tons of restaurants as well. We did 4 of them. You just need to reserve in advance via the Grand Bahia Applications for the restaurants (This could be tricky and not everyone knew about this). 5/5 Pool and activities: Beautiful main pool, lots of activities for kids and adults. Water Polo, games, Aqua Zumba, Volleyball, you name it, they had it. Plenty of things to do. If you wants peace and quiet, there are 2 other pools on the outer edges of the resort. 4/5 Beach: Beautiful beaches but......we got hit with seaweed and lots of it. First 2 days were ok, then they wave of seaweed came in. We made the most of the swimming pool while my wife enjoyed the empty beach huts (Lots of free tanning chairs and shade everywhere). 5/5 Bar Service: They treat you like kings 5/5 All Restaurant staff: Mexican people work hard and they give excellent service. They remember your names, they are cordial, they are polite and they aim to please you. 3.5/5 Night Shows: Some shows were OK, and there is always something to do weather you are at one hotel or want to visit another hotel on the compound. The trains/trollies get you back and forth smoothly. Negatives: The items for sale at the lobby shops are triple or 4 times the regular price you would normally pay for them. You are paying for convenience. Go see the merchants outside the Hacienda (Larger store area) and you might find stuff for cheaper. Return to airport: Since we were the last to get dropped off when getting to the resort, on the way back we were the last to get picked up. We gained back some time then. Better for a late checkout. Final recap: It was a superb experience for our family. We ate very well, we took advantage of all the activities and restaurants and shows and we made a great vacation our of it. The Grand Bahia chain really take the time to make your stay a very memorable one. For those on the fence, I would definitely recommend this resort. I have been to the GB Principe chains in multiple locations and this did not disappoint.

This is the 6th all inclusive I have visited and it is the worst. The location is fine. On arrival they did not have any reservations for the alternative restaurants and this is part of the all inclusive experience. Even employees from the hotel said the hotel has been getting worst overtime. The buffet is you arrive an hour before it closes, is quite empty and sad, the food is not great at all. At dinner in the buffet (early) they had run out of red wine so why I am paying an all inclusive if they do not have enough of anything?

Hi, I was very much looking forward to celebrating my birthday in Tulum (based on friends' prior recommendations). I worked with the hotel to establish a set number of people to establish a discounted rate for the group. The following is what occurred after I put a significant downpayment: 1. The discount code did not work, and personnel had to email the hotel directly to get it corrected. 2. Responsiveness from the hotel went weeks without being answered, and when the final party of my group submitted, they changed their minimum stay from 5 nights to 7 nights. 3. With such a large group, we found difficulty getting dinner reservations (although we planned months in advance) and even when we showed up at a dinner location with space - they would not let us in. 4. For the actual reservation that I put a downpayment on, they were not prepared to host, and we ended up having to separate our party for my birthday celebration. 5. They did not clean the rooms quoting "we are short staffed." 6. There were raccoons at the snack bar and crawling in the kitchen (several people in our party got sick). 7. The icing on the cake, was that they decorated the wrong room for my birthday (then said it was fixed) and surprise they never did. I am very disappointed that even with months of planning and correspondence, there were several key missed from management.

We just returned from our 4th trip to this beautiful resort. The staff were always friendly and made us feel like we were at home. Our rooms were modern and cleaned daily. (But you must use the app to request daily service). The Kids Club is what has brought us back for 4 years. Guillermo, Adriana, Angel, Itzamara, Montse, Asley, Yazmín do an exceptional job keeping our kids entertained and safe! There is a whole weekly schedule of activities for the kids from 9-5, as well as some sort of entertainment again at 8 in the evening. Jorge and Rosalia at the food truck did an amazing job keeping the area clean and making sure we were having the best holiday possible, as well as Jose and the other bartenders that truck bar. The concierge/bell boys at the entrance, sorry I didn't get their names, but they were always making sure that we were getting to the right place. Now for the bad. We have notice over the four years that the resort has been slipping. Minor items like less staff doing taking care of the same amount of stuff. We have always noticed that the buffet was getting worse. This visit there was a whole section that did not have food in it. The line ups were long in the buffet due to the lack of food that was desirable to people. Every time we have been there bacon has been always empty! Bowls for cereal and yogourt were always hard to find as they were always out. The service staff were great but obvious there is less of them working and was harder to get service as they were always busy with someone else. I spoke with other guests that had been to the resort multiple times and the were getting the same feeling. I will be curious to see how the reviews go in the next year with the Hyatt acquisition. I still would recommend this resort to anyone who would like to visit!
