Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya Resort and Spa

This resort is gorgeous and suits most people's wants and needs. The resort is on the beach which is stunning. Only downside was the influx of sargassum which meant we couldn't go in the sea and the smell is horrible. We enjoyed the food as they have a good range of choices during all meal times as well as snacks, coffee, cake and ice cream throughout the day. The food was delicious and some of it is made fresh to order such as eggs, burgers and crepes. We also booked the Mediterranean and the Mexican restaurant - you can book 3 per week. There are 3 decent sized swimming pools with plenty of sun loungers. None of the pools are deep - approx 4 ft maximum. At the start of the holiday, we easily got a sunbed by the Prana pool when we got up at 7am but near the end, we couldn't get one as people were putting their towels down well before 7am. However, there were plenty available at the other 2 pools. The resort puts on entertainment and activities all day, so there's plenty to do if you don't leave the resort. E.g. cycling, table tennis, yoga, volleyball and shows in the evening. There're a range of bars including pool bars, a relaxing bar in the evening, a sports bar and a night club. The resort has lots of wildlife roaming around such as monkeys, coatis, iguanas and cats which was amazing to see! The hotel room was spacious, light and we had a great view of the garden/jungle. We slept well as the curtain kept all the light out and we weren't disturbed by any noise at night (we were away from the main part of the resort). There were stains on the headboard and sofa though. Our shower and sink didn't drain well and the bathroom did feel a little grubby. I feel this lets itself down slightly for a 5 star hotel. The staff at the resort are very friendly and do their best to make sure your stay is enjoyable. I read previous reviews mentioning those with black wristbands getting better treatment. These are guests who pay into the Ultimate Leisure Club and get access to better rooms and ULC members only zones. This did not impact our stay at all as there's plenty of areas for non-members. Overall, it was a wonderful holiday and I'd recommend booking.

Hotel was very clean and modern. All the staff in the buffet room for breakfast/lunch/dinner were lovely, especially David and Marcial. Our room was spacious, although our safe was unreliable with us having to contact our concierge several times. We also had a leak in the bathroom in the last two days, the bathtub would drain on its own when filled up. We were offered a promo visit to the members area in return we got a voucher for the spa. They promoted the visits as 90 minutes but it took us over 3 hours, on our return Leo who was at the concierge desk (not our designated concierge), made a rude comment about the fact that we didn’t sign up to the members club. The special restaurants we visited were Puerto Lindo (service was questionable), Butchers (great service), Bazaar (exceptional) and Carnal (exceptional with a brilliant evening show). Grand Sirenis was a lovely place to spend our holiday.

When we checked into our room the view was beautiful from the balcony. We left the first full day to go on an excursion to Isla Saona, and put the do not disturb on our room, (we don't like people in our room so no house cleaning when we're at a hotel) we were gone all day and when we came back someone had entered our room. They left a fruit plate wrapped in plastic one set of silverware and they were inside our bedroom which we had intentionally closed the door before we left, was wide open. They weren't in there to make the bed. The bed was still unmade so there's no reason that someone should have been in our room. We ended up leaving and going to a new hotel so we felt comfortable and they won't respond about giving us a refund for the nights that we did not stay there. When we checked in our room was dirty. There was hair on the bed when I lifted the comforter up. There was black fuzzes all inside under the sheets. The bathroom toilet had disgusting stuff on the flusher and the shower was dirty. I was even willing to overlook all of that. The food was so bland no reservations for the restaurants and the employees were rude and still I would have stayed there. But somebody entering my room when I say do not disturb is no-go for me. Unacceptable. When we went to a different hotel they said where did you come from? We told them the Grand Sirenis and they said yep they are the worst on the island!

Review We just finished our week’s holiday at Grand Serenis Riviera Maya, travelling from North West England. Here is our feedback and a full review of our holiday. The service is brilliant- we had the most incredible Concierge duo- Leo (Magic Leo) and Silvana from Naab (28-29). Honestly they couldn’t do more for you. Leo got us into a restaurant all remaining 6 nights of our stay after we spoke with him. We were even given the VIP treatment with great tables the final 2 nights (at our top choice places). He was also able to arrange us a good deal on a trip. Silvana booked us into a hydrotherapy session at the spa at incredibly short notice, arranging transport despite being on a break. Both really do go above and beyond and genuinely made our stay very special and memorable. The service in general was very good, with special mention to the lady serving drinks at the relaxed pool, and Phillipe at The Mexican for offering memorable service. The room was very nice- we were originally allocated ground floor (despite emailing ahead requesting top floor) but this was quickly changed by reception, who were brilliant. The rooms need a little TLC but generally are very good, with a whirlpool bath and separate shower. The food was fantastic - so much choice for breakfast and lunch, with a particular note to the tacos at Casa Alma on the beach. The dinner buffet we only had once but loads of choice for all tastes. The restaurants were brilliant. We would recommend all 6 we went to- Oiishi, both Asian street food and Tepenyaki, the Mexican, the Italian and Butchers, but special mention to Carnal (over 18s only) where they serve the most delicious beef fillet, as well as excellent entertainment while you eat. We weren’t there to party, but found the drinks selection to be very good, the Mango Margherita at the quiet pool being a firm favourite. The Sunset bar also served a good choice. The pools are great- there are two we’d class as ‘active’ and good for families with plenty of activities and swim up bars, with music played throughout a good chunk of the day. Our preference was the ‘quiet’ pool, a meandering waterway between the other two pools. The lazy river is also a nice touch and worth a few trips. The beach sadly was only useable in a small section due to the sargassum; despite the hotel staff working hard to remove, they are fighting a losing battle. There’s a small cove still swimmable, but it did put a dampener on the holiday unfortunately. The entertainment was good, with quite a bit of choice of activities through the day if you want it, and a show each night- we made it to a few and would recommend the rock night if you like a bit of live music. The Sunset bar is a great place to chill with a drink and there’s often entertainment there too later into the night. If you’re after a more relaxed vibe and earlier on, Sweet & Salt offers acoustic performers and decent cocktails. We organised 2 excursions whilst there, one with the guys in the lobby and one with TUI: to XPlor and Xel-Ha. Both were very well organised, I will review those separately but both are recommended. The pinnacle for us throughout our stay was no doubt the wildlife. We saw so many wonderful birds, fish, reptiles and mammals during our stay. The highlights were the Racoons and Coatis which are incredibly cute (albeit a little cheeky!) and the birdlife was brilliant, with mot mot birds, pelicans and hummingbirds being the highlights for us. Overall, the vibe of the place is really special- it’s easy to see why people return time and again. We would seriously consider returning ourselves and recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxed escape with wildlife literally on your doorstep.
