We stayed at this hotel for 10 nights. We had stayed here before, so we were able to compare our previous experience with this one. Unfortunately, we noticed a significant decline in quality. The food was one of the biggest disappointments. Every day it was basically the same, with very little variety. They simply changed the presentation or decoration to make it look different. For example, the cheesecakes were always the same dessert—one day topped with whipped cream, another with chocolate, another with strawberry—but it was exactly the same cheesecake every day. Another surprising disappointment was that they no longer serve Spanish cured ham (jamón serrano), something that used to be a staple at RIU hotels. For a hotel that claims to be a 5-star resort, this is a noticeable downgrade. The rooms are basic but clean, so no complaints there. The pools were another major issue. The water was extremely warm—to the point where it actually felt hotter inside the pool than outside, even with temperatures around 35°C (95°F). We have stayed at other resorts in even hotter destinations, and the pool water was always refreshing. It seems there is little or no water circulation. The beach is also disappointing. There are no umbrellas available for guests, which is hard to understand at a resort of this category. The only shade comes from three rows of palm trees. The first row provides decent shade, the second offers very little, and by the third row you're basically left under the full sun. If you don't get there early enough to secure a spot in the first row, spending time on the beach becomes very uncomfortable. The specialty restaurants are almost impossible to access. They tell you reservations are not allowed, yet they always seem to have waiting lists and no availability. After several attempts and multiple complaints, we finally managed to dine at just one specialty restaurant during our 10-night stay. It is unacceptable that guests staying that long have to argue just to enjoy a single dinner outside the main buffet. The kids' club is good, although it would be much better if it operated continuously throughout the day instead of closing in between sessions. The worst part was check-out. We had to check out at 4:00 a.m. and were told there were no bellhops available. I went to get a luggage cart, but every cart was chained up and locked. When I asked the front desk for assistance, they simply told me there was nothing they could do because the carts belonged to the bell staff. As a result, I had to carry six pieces of luggage—including suitcases, bags, and carry-ons—down four floors in 32°C (90°F) weather without receiving the slightest help from the hotel. Overall, it feels like RIU is cutting costs in many areas, and guests are the ones paying the price. Having experienced this hotel in better years, I can honestly say it is nowhere near the standard expected from a true five-star resort. As usual, they will probably reply to this review saying they are sorry, that they appreciate the feedback, and that they will work to improve the guest experience. The reality is that, by then, the damage is already done. Guests have already spent a significant amount of money expecting a true five-star vacation and leave disappointed instead. What is even more concerning is that many of these same complaints have been appearing in reviews for quite some time, yet nothing seems to change. It gives the impression that these responses are simply a formality to protect the hotel's image rather than a genuine commitment to improving. I hope this review helps future travelers make a well-informed decision. Personally, after several stays at RIU hotels over the years, I believe the brand has lost much of the quality that once made it stand out.
My family and I traveled here for 7 days. While some areas need a bit of updating , the service was excellent! Every single person was pleasant and you could tell they took pride in their work. We did have an issue with a manager on duty but we were able to escalate and issue was resolved .
Great resort and staff! Wish I could give half stars, it would be a 4.5. Food is great, we were able to walk into each specialty restaurant without a reservation which is awesome. We all loved the buffet, especially Elizabeth! She made us feel like home. The bar staff at the pool was incredible! Massive shout outs to Willy, Angel, and Luigi! They kept the drinks flowing and regularly made us surprise drinks! The nightly entertainment was surprisingly good and the White party was amazing! We also loved the sports bar to play cards as a family late into the night. The only things I would change would be the pool setup. I like having the bar in a larger pool so the entire family can hang together, including the kids. Plus, they need to add some shaded pool areas. We simply roasted while in the pools as there was no shade available while in the water. All and all, phenomenal trip! I highly recommend it for families and be sure to request Elizabeth at breakfast and be sure to give Willy, Angel, and Luigi a dap up when you see them!
Room was t clean upon check in, hair(s) all over the shower. Toilet didn’t work, broken internals. Changed rooms. Elevators smelled horrible terrible like moldy, stale, damp air. Resort lacks true entertainment. Hardly any wait staff servicing the pools. Waterpark is closed on Mondays but not communicated to guests prior to check in. Just a sign zip-tided to the gates. Door is mediocre at best, very bland and the menus are the same EVERY day. No rotation, no flavor, very sloppy. Probably the worst all inclusive we have stayed at. Not to mention you are 30+ minutes or more from town to be able to venture out and do anything. Beach is not maintained or cleaned. The atmosphere is just sunshine and whatever drinks you can get yourself from the bar. Little to no waitstaff around any of the pools. It’s not an overly loud resort which was nice , but there is also little to no actual entertainment. Pools close at 7:30 every night. For the money I would stay at the RIU Palace next door. Their menus are way better, and it’s a much nicer resort and you can still access the waterpark.
It's not all bad, there are some good things, but I will start with my complaints. I paid extra for an ocean view room. See picture of the view from my room (not even a small spec of ocean can be seen). When I went to the front desk to complain, they said that this room was facing the ocean and was technically a 'sea view' room, and they did not have any other rooms to give me. This is a complete rip-off. Not a great way to enjoy your vacation when you are expecting and paid for ocean views. The evening shows are very poor. I've seen descent shows at other all-inclusive resorts. Not here. The food is very mediocre. The buffet has a lot of options and some things are okay, some things are not. The evening restaurants are just so-so. The steakhouse is the best, BUT you have to make line before 6pm to get a table, and it is outdoors only. It is very uncomfortable to eat with the heat and humidity. The water park could be great, except that most of the water slides are poorly built. The slide sections are not coupled together tightly and so they hurt your back as you are sliding down, to the point where you are left with physical bruises and scratches on your back. Other than that, the hotel is nice, well kept, the rooms are nice, no issues there.
