Riu Dunamar

This was our first time at the Riu Dunamar and we had such an amazing time! From check in to check out, ever single staff member was incredible! We were there for 9 days. The room was nice and housekeeping always kept it clean and put together. Adriana in the Isle Mujeres buffet was our favorite waitress! She was always so kind and polite and friendly every time we were there and made it enjoyabe! The food was great everywhere but the best for us was the kulinarium! The food was beyond incredible!! Popeya was our second choice! My friend got married at the Riu and we had the wedding reception in popeya. Rene was our waiter and he was phenomenal. All the staff there was amazing and treated us like family! The swim up bar was fun and had really good drinks. Rene at the pool bar was friendly and made good drinks when we said surprise us. The beach was beautiful!! Gustavo was our server most days we were on the beach and he was funny, attentive and made it so easy to just relax! My only complaint was the seaweed was terrible in the water. However, the riu did everything to make sure it was kept off the beach as much as possible. They can't control the ocean after all. We also really enjoyed the shows at night. The dancing and areial circus performance wasoutstanding! We had a really amazing time and will definitely be looking at coming back again! Highly recommend for anyone to choose here!

We stayed at Riu Dunamar for one week, and I have mostly excellent things to say about the resort. First and foremost, with me being severely celiac, I want to highlight Chef Israel as he was one of the top players in making our stay enjoyable. He literally acted like a private chef for me, making authentic celiac-friendly Mexican cuisine for breakfast and lunch. His friendliness and kindness showed in his food, and it was the best part of my trip. Next, the bread and butter of the buffet was server Adriana. My daughter fell in love with her kindness and gentleness, as did we. In the short time we stayed, she made us feel like family, and for that, she needs to be mentioned. A couple of things could have been better, but they didn’t make too much of a difference. 1. The waterpark had a hard minimum height requirement, which wasn’t made clear on the website, so our daughter was mildly bummed she couldn’t ride them, but they are very intense, so it was alright. 2. The buffet food did not have ingredients specified, which would be helpful, and had very little Mexican fare for people who didn’t have a private chef like me 😉, and 3. The RIU parties are exceedingly loud, and some people are very disrespectful to kids going to bed early, and they would be loudly yelling, jumping, or slamming doors into the night. 4. It would be nice to have either a library, or an arcade, or somewhere people can go to enjoy quiet time during the hottest time of day, without needing to stay in their rooms or sit in a busy lobby. Overall, this was a lovely trip and I’ll miss our favorite people very much. I hope they will be given massive raises because they are the ones holding the highest level of customer service in the hotel, hence making people want to come back.

We had a great time at the resort! It is a large resort with plenty of activities day & night.The beach was gorgeous and they work hard to keep it clean. There was a lot of seaweed during our stay but it did not stop us from swimming in the ocean. It was so much fun. The pools are nice and the bartenders were fun! The two bars inside the main lobby were the best, we loved the chocolate and expresso martinis! We never had a problem getting into any of the restaurants. Food was decent, we were able to find things we all enjoyed. The entertainment was great. We got to enjoy a white party and a Michael Jackson performance. You can easily schedule excursions from the resort which was very convenient. The rooms were decently spacious with blackout curtains. The beds are on the smaller side and they offered to bring another twin bed for us so we each had our own beds. Housekeeping did an excellent job keeping our room clean and stocked with towels. The resort is spread out so prepare to get your steps in! We never mind that. The resort is in a gated, more secluded area away from any thing other than more resorts but it has pretty much everything you need. I would recommend this to adults and families if you are looking for something budget friendly and nice. It made for a very memorable experience!

All restaurants were too noisy, it was hard to hear the people at my own table speaking. That was the biggest drawback. Some of the musical shows were also too loud. More gluten free options would have been nice. The resort itself needs a little updating. The beach was not taken care of. I understand it is seaweed season but guests should have been made aware and beach should have still been cleaned up. More of the music shows could have included dancing

We just got back from a family trip to Riu Dunamar with our 5-year-old and honestly, this place exceeded our expectations in all the ways that matter most. The resort itself is immaculate. Rooms were clean, well-kept, and genuinely nice — not just "resort nice." The staff were friendly and accommodating, and the amenities were fantastic for both adults and kids. The splash park was a highlight of the entire trip. Our toddler absolutely loved it — easily one of the best features of the property for young families. Now, the food — let's be real. We're not buffet people. At all. So when we found out most dining is buffet-style, we weren't thrilled. The "Mexican restaurant" is essentially a separate room inside the main buffet — just a heads up so you're not caught off guard. One dining experience we skipped entirely was the Asian restaurant — walked in, the smell wasn't right, and even our toddler turned around at the door. We moved on. That said — the buffet itself was genuinely impressive. One of the better ones we've encountered at any resort. The snack bar near the pool was always freshly stocked — hot dogs, burgers, fries — exactly what a hungry toddler needs mid-swim. Here's what says everything: not one stomach issue the entire trip. No sick days, no bad reactions — nothing. For a family with a young child at an all-inclusive in Mexico, that's the ultimate green flag and speaks volumes about the cleanliness and food handling at this resort. Minus the average dining experience, this was a fantastic family vacation. Highly recommend for families with young kids — you won't regret it.
