Riu Dunamar

This is the 2nd time our family has stayed at a RIU Resort for our family vacation. Our family is four generations ranging in age from 5yrs old to 87yrs old. We always love the RIU Resorts, since they offer something for everyone. The food is great, the buffets always offer a good variety. And while it is true that buffet food is never going to win any awards, the food is still on par with what you would get at any family restaurant in Canada. If you want a change try the restaurants: Here the food is better, but more specialized. The pools, fantastic; we travelled in March during spring break, and had no issues with finding space at the pools. The resort is clean and well maintained. Our room was great, my daughter (and grand children) had a room with a huge balcony which was great for the little kids: They set themselves up a play area and had a blast when the adults were relaxing or getting ready for evening activities. The stage shows and party nights were a blast for everyone. Every generation danced and laughed, I call that a win. The only -- very minor complaint -- the morning buffet staff were very slow and sometimes it was difficult to get coffee etc. But the evening staff were always more efficient.

This is the third time staying at a RIU in Playa Mujeres and we were once again very happy with our choice! The staff were exceptional, beaches were fantastic and the food never disappoints. Our room was spacious and everything was in perfect working order. I wish I took the name of the two individuals that assisted us during our check in process as they were so incredibly nice and Rene at the swim-up bar...he was the best bar tender!

Great time. Bacon at breakfast could have been crispier. Also, the bacon was often not available. The woman cook seemed to be reluctant to bring bacon out when it was gone. Very disappointing.

3 stay at RIU, 1st time not at a Palace. Beach was a 9/10, best part of my stay. Requested a high, sunny, quiet floor and was ready to pay for an upgrade. When we got there at check in I was told we were getting an ocean view upgrade on the house. Photo enclosed of this so called upgrade. Let’s just say, this will be my last stay with RIU. The room was right across from the nightly stage. Not a problem except when it woke me up every evening. This hotel is showing signs of wear. The restaurants look like something out of IKEA restaurant. Each restaurant carried that same feel. The table settings were set up fancy but the rest was very basic. Food was a 5/10. The steakhouse can be the biggest waste of an evening. What steakhouse cuts a piece of ribeye thinner than a ham steak and then asks you how you want it cooked. The service was also awful in the steakhouse. We ended up leaving without desert because we never saw our server again. As for the drinks…make your own in the room. I did order an espresso martini at the 24 hr bar, and told the bartender I was jet to get a good drink; he made it well. This was the only decent drink, so I stopped order them. The beach of course was the best part because the pools were loud and not restful. I wish they had an adult pool without loud and drunk elderly men. Smoking is also a problem here. Smoking section was very visible, but the choice places to smoke was anywhere else. I did mention it to one of the employees, but it seems too out of control for them to care.

We were a group of 12 and it was a Great trip. All restaurants accepted to accommodate our group and seated us together. The buffet was good every Day. We also liked the steak, the italian and the asian restaurants. The beach was Great with the Palm tree but the sea a bit agitated half of the week. The service, the people and the hôtel were amazing.
