Riu Lupita

During our stay we experienced the theft of a speaker at the pool area. The concerning part is not the item itself, but the deficient and unacceptable protocol the hotel follows in such situations. From the beginning they labeled it as a “lost item” when it was clearly a THEFT: the speaker was not forgotten, it was taken. The “investigation” carried out by their staff was opaque and unprofessional: guests are not allowed to review camera footage, and the only response given was “we are sorry, but we cannot do anything,” delivered in a tone that felt almost mocking. Even after speaking directly with the hotel director, the answer was exactly the same: no solution, no action. The theft happened because we had to leave the speaker on the loungers while we rushed out for an emergency to find a doctor, since the hotel does not provide medical service. This was necessary due to an ear infection caused by the dirty pool water, which highlights another serious issue: lack of hygiene in their facilities. A hotel that claims to be 5 stars should not allow belongings to be stolen, nor should it lack basic medical services. The fact that their cameras “do not cover” the pool area is unacceptable. What if a guest suffers an accident there? There would be no record, no evidence. This situation even raises the suspicion that employees cover up these incidents to avoid consequences. 👉 My recommendation: Do not trust the safety or quality of this hotel. Look for more serious and responsible options. If they cannot guarantee basic security and hygiene, their 5-star rating is nothing but a hollow façade.

We booked this as a last minute deal. We knew before we arrived that this was a small complex and usually stay in the bigger Riu hotels on the beach. I wasn’t sure how we would find this hotel but in all honesty It was ok for what we paid for two weeks. As others have mentioned if you are not fond of animals this is not a place for you. Not everyone observed the signs not to feed them and because of this the coatis by our second week were quite bothersome as they assumed everyone then was now going to give them food and were jumping up a lot. We liked that the hotel provided the bus to the beach and the man who drives is really friendly. There is only one main bar but staff work hard and you don’t wait too long. The buffet was quite basic compared to other Riu complexes but it was smaller so they didn’t have as much room. They are quite slow to fill up and at weekends it becomes full of locals who do wipe out the restaurant quickly. It must be frustrating for staff as there was a lot of waste over these days. The entertainment was ok. They appeared to be making changes while we were there and by the second week we could see improvements. We tried the Italian and steak restaurants. We preferred the steak house. The mains in the Italian were poor. Over cooked chicken burger sliced over greasy spaghetti was chicken Milanese. Other tables also looked less than impressed with theirs. I will however say that the self service starters were good and if I went again. I really wouldn’t have a main and just have a couple of starters as they were better quality. I also found it odd there was no garlic bread. Staff in both were nice and pleasant . The rooms are basic but clean. We were on the 3rd floor. If we stayed again I would prefer a bungalow as the block we stayed in was like a revolving door constantly changing every other day with local families and the noise at times was a pain. There is pool towels available but by the second week they started to smell Unclean and damp. I did wonder if they were not being cleaned properly as we didn’t experience this when we first arrived. We had a relaxing two weeks which is just what we needed and if we would return if we saw another last minute deal.

i travelled back again this year to meet up with friends from last year, once again my stay was awesome, all the bar staff excellent i was always there before 6am having hot drinks, bar staff knew what i drank everytime, restaurant staff especially young saymone he was brilliant even told management about how good he was rooms cleaned every day, fridge always stocked grounds always being cleaned and the food was awesome always plenty to offer, my only issue is Karaoke is 1 night a week for about an hour, hardly any english sang it always seemed to be the funclub with pink wrist bands singing, and again with activities as the animation team was run by the funclub team who also happen to be french, i did put my name down to sing as they asked me as i sang last year, i waited 50 minutes and left 10 minutes before the end of it, on the 2nd week i never bothered yet another english couple had their name down and was overlooked while some singers sang twice that was my only issue in the 2 weeks i was there, karaoke should be longer, and done more fairly so you have a mixture of singers as it was it was just spanish and french singers al night, i did mention it last year 1 hour a week is poor because if you go the steak house on a saturday night you got no chance of singing as you get back at 10pm, so more karaoke longer sessions and please do it more fairly, other than that another awesome 2 weeks with friends i met last year

This was my wife and I's 3rd year on the trot at this wonderful hotel, this time we were joined by our 15 year old granddaughter, once again what a wonderful time we all had. We were allocate room 1819 one of the single rise blocks just behind the main pool area, this room was large and airy lovely little balcony where we were treated to daily wildlife shows, birds, Coatis, Deer and her babies all just roaming free as they should. The room was comfortable and has everything you need, shower pressure was a a little lower than other rooms we have had in the past, but still ok, our housekeepers were fantastic and they created numerous towel animals for our granddaughter who loved that , so thank you ladies, when we need the mini bar of coffee restocked , one click on the app and the items were there, the only slight gripe is why no tonic in the fridge when you have gin as an optic, I don't see many people having a gin and soda, however my wife was given cans of tonic when she asked so again fabulous service. The food in the restaurant we found was always plentiful and you have lots of choice depending on what you fancy, I really don't understand how people can complain about the variations available, but hey, we were all more than satisfied with our options. We had a lovely young man look after us most of our holiday (Simon) although his name badge was spelt differently, apologies for not writing it down, what an absolutely lovely young man he is, so helpful and attentive, a real credit to the hotel and his parents. The entertainment team all work so hard, if you want to get involved great but they don't mither you if you don't, we had a lot of interaction with Luis, who again was a very nice man and could not help enough, but every single member of that team is fantastic, even the Jumbo team members always speak to the other nationalities even though and were also very nice. Beach club is fantastic lovely place to get a bit of a breeze and super charge your tan, bus service is both regular and swift, although I did walk to the beach most times and caught it back as it was far too hot to walk back. The bar area is again great, the bartenders are always so busy but do still have a good idea of who is waiting and for how long and do try to serve in the correct order, pet hate of mine is people arriving at the bar and getting served knowing people are in front of them, but that's on the peoples manners rather than the busy bartenders, all of whom work so hard. The 2 parties at the Tequila are brilliant and something to experience, our granddaughter absolutely loved them both and spent most of the time dancing on the stage, we tended to get a taxi home as again the queue wasn't respected for the bus home, people just walking to the front is not on really. All in all we had a fabulous trip and this was our 3rd year in a row at this hotel and will not be the last, thank you all for your service and looking after us so well. Leigh , Pam and Macey

Stayed for the second time in three years at the Riu Lupita, April 14 to 21 2026. Another wonderful stay. Room is a little dated but everything worked and had view of golf course from the balcony. Bar service was fast and efficient. Buffet was above average with some really outstanding items. Ate at the Stakhouse and Italian a la cartes. Both were good and the steak at the Italian restaurant was very delicious, while the mixed grill and the view at the Steakhouse were wonderful. All staff from front desk to servers, to cleaning staff were exceptional. Beach club and pools were clean and not too crowded, we mostly used the quiet pool. Hotel is very attentive to requests submitted on the Riu app. We will return without hesitation.
