Riu Palace Costa Mujeres

Everything is what I would expect from a RIU Palace, from beaches with silky white powder to delicious food choices. We dined at the Asian restaurant and it was amazing. The staff has checked on us daily to make sure our stay is the most memorable. The gift shop we were expecting to pay higher prices and we were pleasantly surprised by the shop! The Gym is small but has everything you need. The staff and servers go above and beyond to keep everything immaculate and spoil you. This resort is a bit isolated but we did not want or need anything, we had it all. My husband had open heart surgery last year and we needed to have a little ❤️. We have everything we need here. Thank you RIU palace Costa Mujeres for doing what you do best! Making us feel at home 🏡 p s its Sargassam season and this area is far less than down the coast as its sheltered from the island.

I would rate this hotel 3 out of 5. The room was clean and comfortable, which made the stay decent overall. However, there are several areas that need improvement. The swimming pool amenities are in need of renovation or repair, as they feel outdated and not well maintained. The food was average at best—some items, like the bread, were stale, and many of the meals lacked flavor. I also don’t believe the “elite club” upgrade would significantly improve the overall experience, as the main issues seem to affect the resort as a whole. Unfortunately, the beach experience in Cancún was disappointing due to the excessive sargassum, which is out of control and significantly impacts enjoyment. With some upgrades to the facilities and improvements in food quality, this hotel could offer a much better experience.

Riu palace costa mujeres April 24-may 1 2026 Uneventful plane ride out of YYT (1 hr behind schedule but made up for it en route ) Landed and went through immigration seamlessly. It’s a big airport so trying to figure out where to go was the biggest issue. We did get dragged aside by people trying to sell you excursions on the premise they were helping you find the right way to go. Baggage was super slow coming out and when it finally did finding where our bus was located was even more frustrating. We had to walk through an area where many people were yelling at you trying to get you to take a taxi / cab - almost like they were in stalls. Very unnerving and them trying to find someone to help and trust you find your bus was a bit stressful! Finally eyed Our nexus operator and got on the bus - another wait for passengers( approx an hour ) Then onto resort- approx another hour - high traffic as it was about 5-530 at the point. Check in was seamless and we were greeted with cold drink. Wasn’t quite sure what way to go and were not offered help so we dragged our luggage up elevators until we found our room. Beautiful room / well equipped with all modern amenities. Mini bar stocked with beer / soda / water Coffee and coffee maker Hairdryer / iron King bed Shampoo / conditioner/ body wash Liquor dispenser with 4 bottles Buffet breakfast had a wide assortment of everything you could imagine. Coffee is self serve before 7 am At the 24 hour lounge in reception. But it’s a press of a button. Americanos / lattes/ espressos/ hot chocolate etc Super easy. There was also food offered here depending on meal time which items were available. Pop / juice / tea also available here. Lunch we generally went to snack bar ( Pepe’s ) Fries , ribs, hot dogs , nachos, chicken , burgers ( often undercooked - only complaint) Pool side there was a fruit and an ice cream cart going around in the afternoon. Very nice touch on those super hot days ! Many pools to choose from though only the swim up bar was adult and that was generally packed except on Tuesday ( that’s the pool party at the other Riu ) it was a great opportunity for us to enjoy it as not near as crowded - only day we went and we enjoyed it for a few hours. Staff were top notch. Supper - we loved every restaurant we tried. Steakhouse x 2 Surf and turf and the lobster Mac and cheese omg ! Japan was great. Fish tacos yummy Italian - the lasagna was magnificent. Again staff top notch and service was perfect. Get there early when they open to reserve your spot as first come first serve. Cappuccino coffee house Lots of specialty coffee options Ice cream coffee the best. Cheesecake, brownies , banana bread so good. They also serve yogurts parfaits and ice cream. Sandwich’s and subs and muffins. Beach Sand was light and soft. Cleaned daily though some seaweed but I know not much compared to other resorts. Water was rough and red flag every day. We got in just up to our waist one day and could feel it tugging at us so decided to stay out of it after that. We are used to the Cuba beach’s and the beach was lack Lustre for us because of that comparison. Always plenty of seats to be had - No umbrellas so depending on the shade of the palm Trees which worked better than I expected. Night life We went to a couple of the shows. And popped over to the Riu party one evening. Overall it’s a quieter resort imo. Drinks are endless. You name it they make it. Canned beer available anywhere. Water park. Great spot- no drinking here and there are height restrictions for kids. They run a very smooth operation here, safety seems to be top of mind. One at a time down slides and not til previous person out of pool. No swimming just slide and go. Overall we had a great week and would probably return. The resort is immaculate and staff very friendly. Always attending to guests and no matter where we were there was no wait for food ,drink or service.

Rita at Hotel Riu Palace Costa Mujeres buffet was incredibly friendly, attentive, and efficient. She made every meal more enjoyable with her great service and positive attitude.

This was our first time at a RIU brand hotel and we were disappointed in comparison to other brands we stayed at (such as the Majestic chains) which was in the same price range but provided a better quality experience. We will not return to another RIU mostly based on lack of sleep due to noisy hallways and gastro illness (we never experienced gastro illness at any other resorts) Pros: Beautiful beach Lots of pools - quiet one, activity one, volleyball one, swim up bar one No fighting for beach / pool chairs - there are lots! Lots of palm trees on beach for shade Compact, small, logical layout Beautiful clean grounds Clean rooms Friendly staff / good customer service Great tasting buffet food Allergy info - mostly labeled food with allergen symbols (but not always updated or correct) Good activities / fitness by Fun Crew Self serve hard liquor in rooms Cons: Small beds - almost a double? Hard slamming doors / echoing hallways Housekeeping moving furniture above head early in the morning waking us up- minimal insulation? Fridge not stocked daily No privacy shower stall 4 out of 6 ppl with gastro illness - e.g open jars of mayonnaise sitting on the counter for hours may have caused gastro illness but I believe it is viral À la Cartes were just ok - Asian and Steak were great No beach bar They charge money to play pool No pickleball Not enough bathrooms beside the pool No hot tubs Only 1-3 English channels on tv - not a smart TV No teppanyaki restaurant Nightly entertainment was just OK No communal outdoor seating areas at night (only indoor which was very loud and forced you inside - which got boring) Pastries and sweets were subpar
