This was our fourth stay at Las Americas, with our last stay 3 years ago so it had been awhile. We stayed 7 nights, 2/18-2/25. First the things we wished we remembered or that have changed from prior visits. 1. Water: They only refill your room fridge if you are IN YOUR ROOM. Housekeeping doesn't do it, there is a nice gentleman who knocks and asks what you need. We were only in the room once when he came of the 7 nights. Another time I walked around till I found him. But there are water bottles located in the 24 hour snack place on the main floor. So every time we went out to the pool or up to our room, we grabbed a couple bottles, but didn't figure this out till day 4. We saw a couple people vomiting and passed out on the lounge chairs by the pool (like taken away on wheel chairs), so don't forget to mix in some water between drinks! 2. There are no longer ANY Riu/foam parties at this hotel. There are 4 per week at Riu caribe and you can take a free shuttle, which is only about 5-7min. At least as of Feb 2026, the schedule was Monday 2-7pm Jungle party, Wed 630-11pm White party, Friday 2-7pm Pink party, and Saturday 630-11pm Neon party. They are a blast, and are foam focused so def bring a swim suit. Others also get dressed up and dance outside the pool, so that is fun too. To beat the rush and having to wait for buses to get back, leave about 20min early before it ends or you may wait awhile. It also take at least an hour before the party picks up, so don't worry about getting there early. They have seating in a balcony above and a few places here and there but most sit around the pool. It you can pay a ton of money for a lounger. 3. There are literally 2 outlets in the entire room and one in the bathroom. That really is it, and one of each plug is used for the lamps on your room that you actually do need. So 2 actual plugs for the entire bedroom. And only outlet next to the beds (we had two beds, it was on my husband side, so I had to plug mine in to the one at the wet bar nowhere near where I was sleeping). And no plug in the living room to work with a laptop. BRING EXTENSION CORDS AND SEVERAL MULTI CHARGING BLOCKS. We have so many electronics these days even despite bringing a multi port charger, we were taking turns and having to charge stuff in the bathroom. So dumb. 4. If you want the steak restaurant Black and White, you MUST check in before about 6:05pm. That will get you dinner around 8pm. 6:10 got us in at 830 right before close. They shortened the hours from previous visits which makes absolutely zero sense (all other restaurants are open later). So people will begin lining up at 530. So we would put our name in when we were packing up from the pool, then go shower/get ready and then go to dinner. Each resv is given an hour to eat and they don't have nearly enough tables for just 2 people for some random reason. We tried putting our name in at 620 and it was already "sold out." So just fyi. 5. Food quality isn't as good as I remember but is still decent. And the population here is quite older. We are 48 and 54, and I would say probably 65+% of the remaining guests were older than us. As prices have gone up, it has def priced out younger people and most that were there, were younger (like 20) and there with parents. Def not the party/fun/romance experience we had our first couple times. 6. If you aren't in a pool chair by 1030, you won't have one. People leave towels and go do other stuff. Staff said you are allowed to move a towel if that is all their is but I didn't want to do that. I had a foot injury and one time paid an employee to find me a spot to lay... He just grabbed a towel off a lounger and I laid there for the day. No one ever said anything and he said if people say their towel is gone, they just give them another towel card, so def worth trying because it is pretty annoying to see them empty for literally hours. Okay now the good... The service remains fantastic. Everyone is very friendly. We ALWAYS tip... These amazing people work their butts off for next to nothing, so even a few dollars here and there matters. We were there in February and that is usually when we go. The weather is literally PERFECT. Breezy, sunny with some clouds to give you a break here and there, but it is windy. We do love taking out the catamaran that is only like $10 right next door but there was only one day this time because the wind was so crazy. But it did keep it cool. We purchased towel bands on Amazon before coming and that was a huge win (people's towels often flew off their chairs). Super cheap and also, no one will take your spot lol. The hotel is clean. People are always picking up and making sure things look nice. The strawberry cheesecake and fruit tarts at the coffee place are AMAZING. Buffet is hit or miss. We like the fajitas at the Mexican place, Asian was decent. They have the best mango margarita anywhere. Best was Black and White and see above for how to make sure you can actually eat there. This is a GREAT hotel if you have any mobility problems. Everything is pretty close by. I broke my foot before coming and asked to be near the elevators... One of the elevators on our side was broken (and has been broken at least a week before we got there per reviews). We did not see anyone ever look out work on that elevator our entire stay, which made trying to get to and from your room pretty frustrating during peak times. Sometimes you would have to wait two or even three trips before you could get on and the elevators constantly exceeded the max number of nine people. So if you have any walking issues, make sure you request to be on the side of the hotel near the restaurants and pool. They should have placed me there as that is actually closer to basically everything (I messaged a couple weeks prior to arrival and again a couple days before), but they did not and the hotel was full. We were in I believe room 538 or 539 facing the ocean just a couple rooms from the elevator. But we have stayed at other Rius and various other resorts, and picked this one specifically because it is a pretty compact hotel to minimize walking. Housekeeping did a great job cleaning our room everyday and sometimes twice a day. They were fantastic and no complaints there at all. We are not picky eaters and always found something decent to eat.. the omelet station for breakfast is awesome, lots of fresh fruit and veggies which is great. Every day they do a BBQ type set up by the pool... It alternates between tacos/chips/guac, hamburgers and fries, and chicken wings/chips/guac. If fact, you can get chips and guac basically anywhere, anytime and it is pretty tasty. It runs from 1130-1:30 or until they run out of food. We esp loved the tacos. And the buffet is also open for lunch but we are at the pool daily. There is a great massage place right across the street from the hotel. Like $60 for a massage, my husband went twice and said they were great. Lots of shopping close by as well. Things to work on: Many are mentioned above. Our room was pretty outdated, toilet wouldn't work the first night, sometime came to fix it, then it started leaking all over the floor. Took two days for them to fix that and each repair took multiple requests before it was fixed. My husband key card had to be rekeyed approx 11 times during the stay which was EXTREMELY frustrating given we only had one functional elevator. We had them change the batteries in the door and that did seem to help. The key is persistence... If there is a problem, don't let up till it is fixed or it likely won't be. We are sad about many of the changes that have occurred since our last visit 3 years ago... Not sure we will be back despite this being our favorite Riu in Cancun. We enjoy the party atmosphere and there is literally none here anymore. So just something to be aware of. Oh... And as others have said, no smart TVs. My husband is a tech whiz and thought he might be able to connect a wire to the TV from his laptop to watch stuff at night, but no... Very silly given the cost of this place. The entertainment was not as good as it used to be either... We would go just to do something, but yeah...Just bummed overall. I would give it 3.5 stars, mostly for the drinks which are good and do actually have alcohol in them, decent food, great friendly staff, and if you're 55+ and like quiet, you would probably love it.

My wife and I have just returned from a 14 night stay at this lovely hotel. We traveled from the UK on a TUI holiday. The hotel is very grand and it’s like stepping back in time with the decor. Some people have mentioned it needs modernisation, I disagree, we felt it had a lovely feel and charm. The staff were faultless and very attentive. The food was superb, as were the drinks. The hotel is kept spotless and the housekeeping was excellent. The entertainment team work so hard and always had a smile on their faces. Of the different restaurants available we felt the Japanese one was the best followed by the Krystal. Although all including the buffet one were absolutely lovely. The entertainment was fine, a bit hit and miss as it is in all hotels. But it was nice just to sit and socialise in the art deco bar listening to the piano or saxophone. We walked and tried all the other RIU hotels in the resort and for our age group 50-60 we thought the las America was by far the best choice. If I could suggest one improvement it would be to have a booking system for the various restaurants rather than first come first served. A big thank you also to TUI, both the rep in the hotel Isobel ( I think ) and also the 24/7 help line, who were able to locate my mobile phone which I left on an excursion coach. Overall a lovely holiday and a first class hotel. I would recommend without hesitation.

Just returned from our trip and first time at this resort. Loved everything about it. Beautiful resort, awesome staff and food was excellent. Nick and Catalina were great and Miguel at the pool was so much fun. I will be returning. The only one complaint is people saving chairs and the beds early in morning by putting towels on them. Despite signs that state no saving allowed. It was difficult to find chairs after 8am. The staff should remove towels from seats and beds if no one is there for an hour.
