Riu Tequila

Stayed 2 weeks at this hotel and it wasn’t long enough!! Rooms a good size and were well equipped. Mini bar and optics’s replenished every other day if used. Cleaner Verinice did an amazing job on the room every day. 4 pools on site.Swim up bar nice in the morning but got very crowded and very loud after lunchtime. Best pool we found was the one behind the towel hut and scuba diving which was more quieter. The drinks service around the pool was amazing thanks to our server Leydi !! Nice to have use of the Yucatan and Playacar hotels across the road which you could have lunch , snacks and drinks in the day time and go for evening entertainment using the bars also if you want a change from the tequila hotel but evenings were excellent here too. Drinks in all bars were fantastic including branded makes at no extra cost. Food in all restaurants was excellent with a great selection. All specialty restaurants are definitely worth a visit. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Everything from the amenities to the staff were top shelf. The food was great, the facilities were great, the staff are friendly and hardworking. Zero issues from us, we will 100% be back to this resort.

THE friendliest staff I have ever come across - everyone has a smile, a hello, a warm welcome for you even though you know how hard they work and how long their hours are. Absolutely incredible and they are all such a credit to the hotel. The room was huge, had everything we needed and was kept absolutely immaculate by Raymundo. We were celebrating a social occasion whilst there and we were greeted with balloons in our room along with a daily array of towel displays. It felt really special and I loved seeing what that day’s arrangement would be! The food is the best I’ve ever had at an all inclusive resort. So much to choose from! The fact there are 4 restaurants meant that wherever you were eating never felt over crowded at all. The steak restaurant can have a bit of a wait so prepare for this, but they give you a buzzer so you can go and sit with a drink while you wait. Our favourites were the Italian and Asian restaurants, and actually - even the main buffet! The pool area was great fun - the pool bar gets quite lively and there were constantly activities going on in the other pool too. Tequila is a 5 min walk from the beach, or they offer a complimentary golf buggy ride to it. This was fab & picked up / dropped off every 10 mins or so. The beach is juts beautiful - we ended up spending most of our time here! Never short of loungers - it’s just finding some shade that can be an issue but we managed just fine! The use of Yucatan was amazing too - we could eat lunch and use their facilities whilst at the beach. Some adhoc bits - Check in / check out was incredibly easy. We also watched the life guards be very vigilant and on hand for any help that was required. The resort is in a gated community which requires ID for any taxis etc to get in to - it felt so safe! 5th ave is a 5 min taxi away. It’s also walkable but we preferred taking a taxi. We could see other hotels for double the price but we honestly can’t think of anything we didn’t have that would justify paying so much more! Tequila had everything we needed and then some!

Absolutely wonderful. In our 60's. Great staff, great beach, great food and drinks. Perfect resort. No complaints at all. Will be back.

We stayed at Hotel RIU Tequila with our family (6 people, including two children) for 9 days. Unfortunately, what happened on our final day completely overshadowed the entire holiday. On check‑out day we had to leave the room at 12:00, while our taxi pickup was scheduled for 18:00. Earlier that day, a receptionist clearly told us we would be allowed to have dinner earlier because of the late departure. When we later returned to the front desk to confirm this, another staff member suddenly denied it and became hostile when we explained what his colleague had told us. During this interaction, the situation escalated in a shocking way. The male staff member threw a pen in our direction, which hit my 10‑year‑old daughter, and then verbally abused us using multiple offensive and aggressive statements, including a racist term. For clarity: he used the word “mono,” which is Spanish for “monkey,” directed at our entire family, making this a racist insult. He also used additional inappropriate language that is not acceptable to repeat on this platform. This occurred in front of our children. As parents, we reacted emotionally to this behaviour, especially after our child was physically hit and we were all racially insulted and verbally abused. Any emotional response was a direct and understandable reaction to the staff member’s actions. Our daughter was in shock, and since that day she has been having nightmares. Seeing your child physically harmed and your entire family treated this way by hotel staff is something no parent should ever have to experience. Instead of de‑escalating or listening to our side of the story, hotel staff forcibly removed us from the hotel and the resort grounds without any discussion. We were pushed out in over 30°C heat, with two children, no water, no food, and no time to properly collect our belongings. Because of the rushed expulsion, we also left personal items behind. On top of this, we had to pay for a different taxi to the airport, as we were expelled long before our scheduled transport. Following this incident, I submitted a formal written complaint to RIU, requesting an explanation, an investigation, and appropriate compensation, and I explicitly asked RIU to respond within two business days. Unfortunately, RIU did not respond within this timeframe. I would strongly prefer to resolve this matter directly and privately with RIU and would not normally make a situation like this public. However, due to the lack of any response or accountability, I feel compelled to share this experience publicly. We paid a lot of money for an all‑inclusive family holiday. We did not come here to be racially abused, to have objects thrown at our child, or to be removed from the hotel without being heard. I strongly encourage families—especially those traveling with children—to carefully consider this hotel. Our experience has left a lasting emotional impact on all of us and raises serious concerns about staff behaviour and how serious incidents are handled at this resort.
