Riu Tequila

This hotel, staff, food, facilities and entertainment are exceptional This was our second visit and I never normally revisit it the same hotel but our first experience was such a good one that we had to come back and it did not disappoint If anyone isn’t any doubt of booking this hotel, don’t hesitate, because I’m not joking you will have the best time ever We plan on returning for a third time very soon Mexico has always had my heart and so does this hotel

Everything about the hotel is a very good standard.

Oh my word!!! Simply thee best holiday ever!!!!! We were a bit worried about the long flight, (especially the one on way back when you've got your post holiday blues!) but it wasn't so bad really, plenty of room for us 3 tall people, and loads of videos on plane to watch. It took around 90mins to reach the hotel, after a swift and smooth exit from airport, and WHAT a hotel. Check in was quick and easy with a refreshing drink upon arrival. The walk to our room was about 3mins, down a lovely palm tree 🌴 lined pathway, past the swimming pools and an amazing smell from the poolside lunch area. All the staff we met along the way said hello, which was nice, big smiles on their faces...... every single member of staff during our stay seemed happy to see you there, and worked incredibly hard to make our stay incredible. The room was ace, 2 large beds, plenty of wardrobe space, twin sinks, a shower and toilet (all enclosed (not sure why some of reviews said they were all open??) Tried all 4 or 5 restaurants, (Italian best for steak, Bamboo was amazing!!) Entertainment on an evening was above average, apart from Friday nights, which was simply out of this world!!!!! 'Neon' night and 'white' night rotate each Friday, all 3 sister hotels come up to join in, you get your face painted accordingly by friendly, excited staff, and then it starts!! A live singer starts (who was incredible on both different night!!) then the balloons come out (thousands of 'em) and then the DJ takes over with the best dace music ever!!!! The poor staff, who already do so much for you, even put on their own dancing show one evening a week which was amazing!!!!!!! After a few days by the pools, playing waterpolo, water volleyball and daft, but enticing games, we decided to walk to beach each day (free buggy sets off every 5mins or so!) But we walked down as its onky a 4 or 5 min walk down a lovely enclosed path. Bar/restaurant at end of path is a must go to, with lovely food and amazing views of each and palm trees. Sargassum on beach was not good a few day, but mostly fine (walk through it a bit, then water is clear) and staff work tirelessly to attempt to free it from beach....... take snorkel to beach as LOADS of fish to see in the shallow water) As i said earlier, thee best holiday ever, and will be definitely returning!!!!! Only downside, was the adult pool was closed off a few days, ut each time it was because some lads from the other hotels came across drunk, and ruined it for everybody by being sick 😫 🤒!! 😤😤 Thank you to EVERYONE at Tequila, for our holiday, long flight defo worth it!!!! Ps, take camera, as loads of exotic animals roaming around!!

We are leaving the Riu Tequila today after a lovely holiday, so I wanted to leave an honest and fair review while everything is still fresh in my mind. Arrival & check-in Our transfer from the airport to the hotel took around an hour, which was absolutely fine. Check-in was quick and straightforward. If I was being really picky, a welcome drink on arrival after a 10-hour flight would have been a lovely touch, but I appreciate the hotel is busy and this is only a very minor point. Our room Our room was spacious, clean and well maintained. We were in a block close to the lobby and quiet pool, which was a great location for us. Our air conditioning wasn’t as cold as we would have liked. Maintenance however came out several times and genuinely couldn’t have done more. We were even offered an alternative room, but decided to stay where we were as with the fan we got used to it and was fine. We did hear people coming back late on some nights, but it certainly wasn’t excessive. People were simply enjoying their holidays, and that’s part of staying at a lively resort. Pools We thought all the pools were lovely. We particularly enjoyed the quiet pool, although we didn’t actually use the adults-only pool. I’ve seen some comments saying that the pools were dirty, but this wasn’t our experience at all. I’m an early riser and was usually at the pool around 8am with my book. I regularly saw the pool areas and sunbeds being cleaned, and there were always plenty of sunbeds available at that time and even later in the morning. The pool water was warm, but that’s hardly something the hotel can control given the Mexican sunshine! ☀️ Food & drinks The food was fantastic and we genuinely couldn’t fault the staff. Our favourite was the steakhouse, but we also really enjoyed the Italian and Bamboo restaurants. The buffet was also very good, with plenty of choice. The drinks were great too, and we particularly liked the little touches, such as staff coming around the pool and the ice cream cart. 🍦 Entertainment The entertainment was another highlight. Of course, some shows were better than others, but you can see how hard the entertainment team work and they really do put their all into it. Our favourites were the Neon Party and Grease. The sports bar was also a great place to spend an evening — lively, fun and nice and cool. For us, the staff genuinely make this hotel. Everyone we encountered was friendly, helpful and welcoming, and nothing seemed too much trouble. Beach The beach wasn’t particularly impressive during our stay because of the sargassum. However, we knew this could be an issue before travelling, and it’s simply nature rather than something the hotel can control. We still spent some time on the beach and enjoyed making use of the facilities around Yucatán. ⭐️ Overall Overall, we had a really enjoyable stay at Riu Tequila. What you get is a fun, friendly and lively resort with excellent food, great staff, good entertainment and a really lovely atmosphere. There are always going to be little things that aren’t perfect when you’re on holiday, but for us the positives far outweighed the negatives. The staff, food, entertainment and atmosphere really stood out, and we would happily recommend Riu Tequila to anyone looking for a fun Mexican holiday. Customer service experience has been awful. I want to give the hotel a higher rating, I really do. However, we’ve unfortunately have had some horrible customer service experiences. Eduardo at the front desk appeared like he hated his job. He was in a bad mood, short with us and very rude. We were so excited to arrive and when we got to the front desk it said the pool bar was closed. We were so sad and commenting on it and yet HE was annoyed. All we were saying was “oh no, this stinks, we really were looking forward to that” and Rather than explaining other opportunities and areas we could enjoy, he interrupted us and said “ Can you all just wait until I’m done checking you in?!” . He never smiled, never encouraged us or tried to make us feel welcomed. The gentleman next to him was SO kind to the guests checking in. I hope none of you get Eduardo. I hate that I’m spending so much time on this review about checkin but it’s literally the first impression and it just set an awful tone. I’ve been traveling for over three decades for the military and for pleasure and this is the first bad review I leave. The bartenders have been wonderful, they’re very nice. The entertainment was great, we loved the silent disco party and look forward to white party tomorrow.
