Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya

We just returned from our trip and it was absolutely wonderful. We are already planning to return! One of the highlights was the snorkeling excursion where we got to see sea turtles up close. Our guide was incredible. He was knowledgeable, patient, and clearly passionate about the turtles and their environment. It made the experience even more special. I also took a macramé class that was fantastic! It was fun, easy to follow, and such a memorable part of the trip. The restaurants were excellent across the board, and the service throughout the resort was truly top-notch. Every staff member we encountered was friendly, attentive, and went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. Overall, this was an unforgettable experience, and we can’t wait to go back!

If you are reading all the reviews and wonder if this place is actually that great, let me tell you that IT IS! We were 4 couples in total that went from Feb. 23 to March 2. To sum it up.... -The resort EXCEEDED every single expectation that we had and we are CERTAINLY planning on returning! We were not in the premium level, but we were sure treated like it! -The staff is beyond exceptional and always made us feel welcome. Everyone from the pool concierge, the entertainment staff, the wait staff at all the restaurants and bars and the building concierges were incredible! Notable mentions go, first and foremost to Karina, our building 9 concierge, who went over and above to make our stay so memorable. She texted us everyday with a list of activities and let us know what special events were going on every day. She arranged for a few surprises for our group also, that was so incredibly touching. Carlos on the entertainment team was wonderful with yoga on the beach every morning, guacamole making and turtle painting! Exceptional service at Rendezvous was provided by Johana who even remembered our drink orders on a daily basis. Karla, our beach server, greeted us everyday and brought us our drinks with a smile as did Luis at he bar! Diedel at Himitsu was fantastic cooking us a delicious meal and also displayed his incredible skills at the Tuna Carving Event. Honestly, there are too many excellent people to mention. Even the gardening staff were wonderful! The staff here WILL impress you as they make sure that you are seen and cared for and they will literally drop everything if you need something! -Food at ALL the restaurants was excellent along with the special event dinners. Our favourite was Bordeaux restaurant and also Himitsu and we loved the Coco Cafe (yummy ham and cheeses croissants and cappuccinos). Always something for everyone. Entertainment was fantastic too, we especially enjoyed the new Cold Play show, however, all the shows were awesome. -Rooms were all great and beds were comfortable. Room service was fantastic and quick! Tips -Pools were great and well maintained with both servers and a pool concierge looking after you. Don't forget to spend a day at the quiet pool..... so relaxing and zen! -The grounds are incredible, so take some time to walk around to see all the animals and birds. We saw lemurs, mexican capybara families, geckos, iguanas, fish and the list goes on. The fountains and water features are gorgeous and it truly feels like you are in a forest! Check out the hammocks too! -Get into the water at the beach! We saw lots of fish, and even stingrays! You CAN snorkel right from the beach and also see the sea turtles. It's incredible! -Do the activities! Ones not to miss are the wine tasting, the Tuna Carving and the Aukumal night. Fabulous! -We were a larger group, so make any reservations for restaurants the day you arrive if you are a larger group -We had ocean view rooms, however, if doing this again, I would not spend the money on this upgrade as the way the resort is laid out, you are quite a distance from the ocean and cannot see it well. -DO book this location if you are thinking about it! I spoke to so many people there who are returning customers and many more that will be. We felt spoiled and so relaxed and happy while we were there. A True Vacation!

We vacationed at Secrets Akumal from March 9 to 17, 2026. We travelled as a couple to celebrate our anniversary. Everything about our stay was perfect. This is an excellent resort. 10 out of 10. The resort is about 60 minute drive from the Cancun airport, so not too long of a drive. The check-in process was fast, friendly, and very efficient. We stayed in building 3 and Alexandria our Concierge from our building came over to collect us and showed us around the resort and too our room. Alexandria always let us know what was happening at the resort very day. Our room was big - we chose a Preferred Club swim-out room in building 3. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. Our room was cleaned twice daily. The resort is not too large, so you can easily walk around the property. The pools are very large and clean. Never an issue to get a chair at the pool. The resort is very "junglee" - very unique. It was like walking around in a private garden. It is maintained very well, very clean. All the bathrooms were spotless. The restaurants were excellent. We went to the French, Italian, and Asian restaurants twice - the food was amazing as was the professional and attentive service from the wait staff. We did the Seaside and buffet restaurants for breakfast. Loved the coffee. For lunch, we visited the BBQ at Oceana every day - wow - the food was simply the best. All the wait staff were professional, friendly, fast, and worked hard. (Tip them please). We lounged at the large pool by the beach every day. Manatee Pool Bar was super fun - shout out to Marco, Eduardo, and Cruz for making every day lots of fun. The beer was cold; the drinks were tasty and plenty. My wife participated in the pool spinning activity every day - the activity staff were lots of fun. We also did the bicycle tour into North Akumal - shout out to Allejandro - funny guy, excellent tour guide. The best part of this resort - was the service. Exceptional, professional, they were always working hard. So please do not hesitate to bring a little extra $$$ to tip these folks - they deserve a little extra reward. The beach - yes, it had sargassum - but it was always being cleaned, so don't let this change your mind. The service, food, drinks, and the accommodations will be worth it. This resort was recently voted #1 in Riviera Maya - I believe it - so will you. Enjoy! Scott

Fantastic vacation at this 5 star all inclusive. Beautiful resort with a sprawling layout throughout the tropics that makes it appear more like a boutique resort as opposed to larger one. Multiple pools and lots of restaurants provided numerous options for fun and relaxation. Special shout outs to the following team members who truly made our stay special: - our building 3 concierge, Alexandra, who handled all of our questions and requests with efficiency and kindness - her concierge teammate, Karina, who stepped in flawlessly to support us in Alexandra’s absence - our preferred beach attendant, Cinthia, who kept us hydrated and happy as we lounged beachside - our waiter, Carlos, who served us both at the Preferred Club and at Rendezvous. He was extremely friendly and attentive in taking care of us - young Carlos, supporting us both poolside and beachside ensuring we had everything we needed to ensure a great time Overall a fantastic stay, with the only negative the heavy seaweed along the beach. Obviously nothing the resort could avoid, but their daily efforts to clean up the beach was impressive.
