Viva Maya by Wyndham

We left with great expectations of this beautiful beach resort after having had high recommandations from our travel agent. The highlights of our stay were the excellent food, peaceful Maya Café, clean rooms and friendly staff. But we were horrified by the extremely loud techno music and various daily animations that disturbed our beach experience. Also the beach cleaning staff was terrible. They were badly equipped and badly organized, so we had to walk through six feet long of seaweed daily to reach the turquoise ocean... Not to mention the awful smell of rotting seaweed under the hot Mexican sun. It's unfortunate that management doesn't invest more money in their beach cleaning staff or that they don't understand the basic need for peace and quiet on the narrow beach.

We stayed at this resort for the last week of February 2026. I was delighted with the early check in and my room was so bright and cool. The staff made me a special welcome for my birthday and then a day later a special treat! The food was always delicious with a huge amount of variety and the sweet treats were hard to resist. The entertainment staff were hilarious and friendly. I loved their Mexico show and the audience participation show the most. I was happy to see that there was a skilled Aqua Fit (Aqua Gym) and Yoga Instructor teaching daily classes. My partner and I took classes each day. Fun and accessible for all levels of ability. We were able to get to cenotes and ruins within 30-70 minutes of this resort so the location is perfect! The beach was cleaned each day and the ocean and all the various pools were refreshing. They have this amazing trapeze for kids and adults and child care was provided. We will definitely visit here again!

Check in was a breeze, arrived around 7PM, no line up, quick & easy & someone helped bring our bags to the room in Bldg 3. Room was clean & fresh but our bathroom door was locked & someone came immediately to open it for us. The room was cleaned daily & we had adorable towel art neatly every day. Everywhere we ate for our 3 a la carts was delicious & beautifully presented. I think the staff are very proud of what they are presenting & it certainly shows in the service & professionalism. The buffet was good too & there was variety to choose from every meal. The beach was spectacular & we never had to play the early morning chair game because no matter what time we went, there was plenty of chairs to choose from. We had red flag days & a life guard was on duty which made us feel safe. We enjoyed all the entertainment in the theatre & outside lobby area. The drinks were delicious & seemed to be consistent no matter what bar you ordered from. Our only complaint all week was that the wifi was horrible in the room but if we stepped outside it worked fine & in public places it was fine as well. Check out was quick & easy & the staff at the door made us feel like the private transport we had ordered would beget us to the airport on time & safely & they did. I would absolutely return here. Bravo to the hotel staff & management, this is a hidden gem in my opinion.

Viva Maya I arrived at midnight. Unlike during the day, there was no bellhop, personal greeting, or explanation. If we hadn't asked, they wouldn't have sent a security person to show us around. The Nexus representative was dismissive when I visited the office after multiple messages urging me to see her. She only told me to download the app, which I had already done before leaving home. They strongly push for you to purchase a membership. The room is average; the fridge is empty with nothing stored inside. The balcony is small and not suitable for sitting or viewing since the wall is solid. Each floor has a water refill station, which is convenient. The beach is great—lots of sand, minimal seaweed, and efforts are made to clear any that appears. However, the chairs are packed tightly, so you’re often on top of others until people rearrange for more sun or shade. Peddlers are everywhere, constantly walking around, not just down by the water as in other resorts. They come by 10-20 times if you stay for a while, which gets tiring. Drink service is only available on the members-only side, with no waiters for other areas. The buffet offers standard dishes. The a la carte options—pasta, fish, chicken, beef—are average and the same for everyone. The pool is small, mostly filled with kids, and lacks a swim-up bar. I didn't sit by it due to limited space. There’s an adults-only pool on the other side of the lobby, which is also small and unimpressive. Beds are reserved for members only, not available for sign-up use. Bikes are provided near the entrance for use around the gated community. There is a market nearby, across the road and a bit down. The spa was not visited; prices seemed high for basic services. The on-site shop is small and basic. The coffee bar was excellent. The snack bar offered basic, consistent food. The bars always had long lines since there’s only one at the beach and one in the lobby. The adult pool has a small bar, but it’s also basic. I didn’t see any night shows or visit the sports bar/nightspot. Overall, the resort is small, functional, but nothing special.

We stayed at the Maya for 10 days (10 adults and 6 kids) and had an amazing time. At least half of our group tried the trapeze and my sister and I as well as my 9 year old daughter went there daily for the second half of our stay. The crew there was fantastic and the 3 of us loved the experience! I highly recommend taking the time to give the trapeze a try!! Thanks to Betinha, Mara, Valentina, Krystal and Mat for an unforgettable experience, you guys were awesome!! Freddy in the towel hut always had friendly smile, was keen to engage and made the most out of a job that looks like it makes for a long day. Margerito in the pool bar provided great and fast service, even when the sump pump quit and he was standing in a flooded bar all day. If you are looking for drinks at the beach, find Antonio!
