Viva Maya by Wyndham

My family and I stayed at Viva Maya by Wyndham over Christmastime, and the staff truly made our trip special. The workers at the water sports hut were incredibly welcoming, friendly, and helpful every single day. A big thank you to Giancarlo, Alan, Adrian, Marco, Aaron, Ricardo, and Rodolfo, along with many others, for always being patient, upbeat, and genuinely kind. We also loved all of the bartenders throughout the resort. Every interaction with the staff here felt warm and positive. Overall, all of the staff were absolutely lovely and made us feel so welcome, and it is truly the people who made this vacation such a memorable experience for my family and I.

Great staff and friendly service everywhere on the resort. We especially enjoyed the yoga on the beach every morning. Thanks Gian Carlos for guiding us through great classes. Jesus provided free 5 minute massages which were great just off the lobby. The spa services are a little expensive but go see Jesus for discounted packages. We got a great deal and the massages were incredible. There were always lots of chairs at the beach and around the pool. Everyone lined up to get drinks at the bar which was nice. The rooms were clean and the shower had lots of hot water with good pressure. The beach is beautiful and clean. We loved going for dips in the ocean. The shows at night were great and they had one at the main stage and one near the lobby every night which was fun. Overall a great relaxing vacation.

We had an incredible experience at Hotel Viva Maya, and a huge part of that was thanks to the outstanding entertainment team. Renato, Brandon, Valentina, Will, Laura, Jahir, Carolina, Stefy, Marla, and Antonio truly made our stay unforgettable. Their energy, professionalism, and genuine passion for what they do were felt every single day. From fun daytime activities to amazing evening shows, they created such a positive, joyful atmosphere that brought guests together and made everyone feel included. Each team member brought their own unique spark, and it was clear how much effort, creativity, and heart they put into entertaining and connecting with guests. They were always smiling, approachable, and ready to make every moment special. Thank you all for your hard work, enthusiasm, and dedication. You are a big reason we would happily return to Viva Maya and recommend it to others!

Pros: Nice Beach. Food was great even at the buffet. Service was OK. Room was clean with good bed. We liked the snack bar near the plage. Not feeling obliged to tips at bars and buffet. "À la carte" restaurants was great (Mexican at Hacienda Don Diego and Fusion/International at Cosmopolita). Cons: rooms may be noisy (noise from hallways, noise from exterior show), alcools are cheaps quality. Nothing in refrigerator (no soft drink or beer). Had only 2 "À la carte" restaurants on 6 days. Special cheers on the Buffet: We had a special buffet night on the 31th December... Lobster tails, steaks, shrimps... and lot of desserts It was exceptionnal! Special thanks to Margarito working at the buffet... We had great time to chat with him and his service was always EXCELLENT.

Wyndham Resorts – Viva Maya- Management Policy of Overcharging Extra Guests In early October, 2025, I made a single reservation for myself at Viva Maya, which cost $1,024 for 5 days, but I asked for two queen beds as my son might be joining me. When my son said he was going to join me, I attempted to change the reservation as the cost for two was the same as the cost for one on the Wyndham Website at that time, but as all rooms were booked, the agent at Wyndham said that the hotel would charge me a little extra for his food as he was staying in my already booked room. When my son arrived on November 30th, they charged him $1,252.09 as that was their “policy” for additional guests staying in the same room. After repeated calls and discussions. Viva agreed to refund $289, which they did when we checked out on December 5th. Later that day, I had some time and sent a note to Wyndham Resorts stating that when I got back to the US, I would take them to court for the remainder. Within 5 minutes, I got an email from the management at Viva Maya that they would refund another $727, essentially charging my son $236 for 5 days of meals which is reasonable. My son said the food wasn't all that good, but that is another matter. On January 9th-over a month later, the $727 was credited to my son's credit card after more "prodding" on our part. This is poor behavior for a 4-Star Hotel and more concerning, the staff and local management enforced this fraudulent policy. I am sure I wasn't the first or the last victim of this policy. The corporate office did update their website, so the room charges are now based on the number of occupants in their room rather than one price for 1-4 occupants as was the case when I made reservations and later on December 3, 2025. So, I made some positive financial impact at least for Wyndham Resorts as they can now collect more money from guests. It is regrettably that there are so many honest, hardworking personnel throughout Viva Maya who are required to enforce this policy to overcharge guests. The management's response to this issue failed to mention that they would eliminate that policy to just charge extra guests for extra meals, etc., so buyer beware. It is regrettable that Viva Maya has this policy to overcharge folks when they are on vacation and trying to relax. You would think that Viva or Wyndham would offer me a free stay since I found this issue with their establishment, but no commendation for my efforts to correct this. That tells me a lot about Wyndham!! Steven Donatiello
