After vacationing at Bahia Principe resorts since 2009, I never imagined I would be writing a review like this. For more than 15 years, Bahia Principe was our resort of choice because of its excellent service, outstanding loyalty program, and the feeling that returning guests were genuinely appreciated. Unfortunately, since Hyatt took over, that experience has changed dramatically. The biggest disappointment has been the elimination of the Black Membership benefits that many of us spent years earning. Those privileges were one of the main reasons we remained loyal to Bahia Principe for so long. Today, they have essentially disappeared. As World of Hyatt Explorist members, we also expected at least some recognition of our loyalty. During our stay, the resort appeared to have low occupancy, yet there was no room upgrade, no meaningful recognition, and no indication that long-time returning guests were appreciated. We honestly felt no different than someone visiting Luxury Ambar for the very first time. The decline in the overall experience was noticeable throughout our stay. > Guests at Ambar can no longer enjoy many of the dining privileges we previously had, including access to buffets we had always been able to use. > The beach buffet was closed during our visit. > Presidente beer, which had always been available on our previous visits, was replaced with the much cheaper local Canita beer. > Several amenities and services that used to be included now require an additional charge, making the resort feel less all-inclusive than it once was. > Staffing appeared to have been reduced, resulting in slower and less attentive service. > During our stay, the Ambar beach had noticeably more seaweed than the neighboring Bahia resorts we visited and appeared to receive the least attention. Overall, the luxury atmosphere that made Ambar stand out for so many years no longer feels the same. One thing that has not changed is the quality of the employees. Every staff member we encountered was friendly, courteous, and worked hard to make our stay enjoyable. Our disappointment is not with the employees it is with the decisions made by management that have reduced the quality of the guest experience and removed many of the benefits that loyal customers once enjoyed. New guests may leave positive reviews because they have nothing to compare this experience with. However, for those of us who have been coming to Bahia Principe for many years, the difference is impossible to ignore. During our stay, we spoke with several returning guests, and many shared the same disappointment and said they were considering not returning. Loyal customers helped build Bahia Principe's reputation over many years. It is disappointing to see those same guests lose the benefits they spent years earning while paying more and receiving less. After more than 15 years of loyalty, I genuinely feel betrayed. It is heartbreaking to watch a resort that created so many wonderful memories move in this direction. Unless Bahia Principe and Hyatt begin valuing loyal guests again and restore the quality, benefits, and level of service that made this brand exceptional, this will likely be our final stay not only at Ambar, but at any Bahia Principe resort. We sincerely hope management listens to its long-time guests before more of them decide to leave. Long-term loyalty should be rewarded, not forgotten.
Food was delicious. Staff is great. Hotel and the room were clean at all times. I also appreciated security removing people and children from the area who didn’t belong there. The shows were also great. Variety of things to do and the staff was always willing to help. We also used AMSTAR in the lobby to book an excursion which was easy to do. My only suggestion would be to make designated smoking areas because people are disrespectful with smoking in the pool area and outside restaurants. This is our second time here and won’t be our last.
Our first time in Punta Cana, great stay at Bahia Principe Escape Ambar. Our room was clean, food at the buffet was amazing, lots of choices. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. The grounds were beautiful and well maintained. We will definitely visit again.
Location was beautiful and hotel was lovely with such friendly staff from the reception staff to cleaners, buggy drivers, chefs and we had amazing entertainment staff who knew names by the first few days and not pushy when requesting support for the activities which were entertaining and lots of. The rooms were perfect and fully stocked mini bar and all toiletries provided. Cleaned daily with very friendly room attendants. Every member of staff we came across were friendly and could not do enough to help. The buffet was really good with daily themed menu alongside regular food. Lots of choice and cooked to your liking. Sports bar is a must for chicken wings! Amazing and went back a few times. Unfortunately, we did not like the restaurants as much as we thought we would. Meat, Italian and Olivio food was not as expected which was such a shame but still nice enough. Buffet was better but some food can be cold but lots of choice. Pool and bar alongside the buffet cooked daily around the pool area was amazing. No fighting for beds and plenty of them. Really enjoyed the pool party and entertainment during the day. It was such a shame about the seaweed problem they were having as an island as we did not swim in the sea as much as we would have liked to but beach beds and shades were excellent. Pool was spacious and clean but could have been a bit colder as very warm but again as weather was so hot, out of their control. Amazing holiday and would definitely go again.
Had a fabulous 2 weeks from 22/05/26 at the Bahia Principe Ambar. Room was very spacious and clean and located in block 69 which we found ideal. Pretty much halfway between the lobby and pool. Had a couple of little issues that were sorted quicky. The balcony door didn't lock , we couldnt turn the air con down and the safe didn't work. We contacted reception and they sent a maintenance guy who fixed the door, tried to help with the air con but language was a barrier. Anyway, after using Google translate & google we worked out how to lower the room temp so it was perfect. Some time later reception helped fix the room safe as the maintenance man wasn't allowed. Food was much nicer than The Akumal in Mexico and we had no trouble booking the restaurants we wanted. Our faves were Meat, the Japanese and Yurta. Absolutely delicious and the service was brilliant. The Portofino Italian was poor and food wasnt warm. The Greek food wasn't too bad and the service was very good. The service in Rodizio Las Olas was terrible and the food was poor. Having breakfast at Las Brisas every morning was lovely but they very often ran out of bacon and hash browns early which was frustrating. The guy who made the fried eggs and omelettes was a nice chap but hugely annoying as he joked around whilst making your food, pretending to give it to other people in the queue. I'm sure people appreciated his humour but we found it irritating every single morning. Our breakfast servers were lovely and mostly friendly and smiling. The buffet in the evening was also very nice and the service was excellent. The pool was lovely and the waiter service to the beds was very welcome. A special thank you to Marlene who always paid attention to our needs and always had a smile on her beautiful face. Cocktails could be a bit hit and miss as some come premixed and are sickly but the Gin & Tonic was fine. The sports bar did very nice wings for a snack and drinks were good in there also. Seating is a little limited, especially if there are popular sports games playing but we always managed to sit down eventually. The beach was lovely and we did venture into the sea albeit there was seaweed. That is nature's gift and we aren't really beach people so didn't impact us too much. The only real negative for us was the failure of some adults to control themselves after drinking alcohol. We witnessed the pool being closed on 2 occasions. Once for a young American girl who was steaming drunk, ended up being sick in the pool and had to be carried back to her room. Secondly an elderly lady had a toilet issue which trailed from the pool to her sunbed. She must have known she had this issue as she's gone upstairs, got changed and came back down again to sit on her sunbed. Bad tummy could happen to anyone but the prob I have is that she didn't let any staff know so people were traipsing through it. We only knew it was her as people say behind her had watched it all unfold and had let us know. No way did these mishaps stop us from enjoying our stay though and I'd definitely go back again. We met some wonderful people and really enjoyed our time at Ambar.
