Catalonia Royal La Romana

Came down with our family of 5, arriving on Saturday. First case of food poisoning started Sunday, and that person was down until Monday afternoon. Daughter came down with food poisoning on Tuesday, started recovering Wednesday. At that point we decided to bail and cut short the vacation and just pay for flights home. Unfortunately, I came down with food poisoning Thursday morning. Made it to the airport where we sent the three kids home, while my wife and I wait it out in a hotel near the airport. In the time we were there we never once saw any kitchen staff temping any of the buffets (breakfast, lunch or dinner). At the lunch buffet it was open air, no covers on any food, and birds walking around picking at the food. A la carte restaurants had food pre-prepared. How do we know? Because you placed your order and the food came out 2-3 minutes later. Cold dishes were common. Raw hamburger (that we didn't eat) was disturbing. Hotel grounds were nice, beach was nice. Just hard to enjoy anything when you're stuck in your room vomiting and fighting diarrhea. In case you assume it was a one off, multiple other groups we encountered were suffering the same. One couple were so sick they couldn't make their flight out and had to stay longer. Which is why we bailed. Being stuck in a place where it seems anything you eat at any time can make you violently ill is just a nightmare. Worst vacation ever. Total and complete waste of money.

My husband and I so enjoyed our trip back to the Catalonia in the DR! We are ETC members and this is the second time at this resort. The service was exceptional. All ETC butlers and concierge were incredible! They were there for all our needs. You feel like family. The food was delicious and our room was beautiful. We always feel like we are at our home away from home at the Catalonia. Miguel, Amurary, Melissa, Sebastian, Chavely, Brian, Julia were amazing!!! We plan to see you all next year! Thanks again.

Wonderful stay in Catalonia Royal la Romana. Perfect time and days full of dance, sun and great coffee by Jessica from the beach bar. Thanks the animation team Sequetel, Arismende Beba and Fernando !!! Will be back 🍀✈️🌴

The hotel is set on a super beach with soft sand and perfect swimming conditions in clear water. It is very clean, attractively designed and well maintained. The staff are lovely: helpful, kind and always went the extra mile to ensure we were happy, even when they were busy.. Stand out staff are Kireyni in the Restaurant and Christopher at the Beach Bar. Both of whom are warm and genuine people that we felt privileged to be served by. Hilda and Nayrobi who looked after our rooms were also kind and lovely and did an excellent job as our rooms were always spotlessly clean. Thank you all. The food was not bad but was not always great and we were disappointed on occasions. The Thalassa is the definitely the best choice! We were dismayed to have to continually get up very early to 'reserve' a bed with a shade on the beach. Even though there are signs to prohibit this you either do it or you don't get one. We witnessed people people reserving multiple beds in both the sun and shade areas and beds empty for long periods, especially in the morning. While it is a difficult issue, the hotel management could sort this. Entertainment was very pleasant and there are some very talented people on the island! Overall, we enjoyed our stay.
