Dreams Dominicus La Romana

As a family we stayed at Dreams Dominicus La Romana for our summer holiday over the last two weeks of July this year. Overall it was an okay experience and a well earned relaxation for the whole family. Generally the friendliness of the staff and the standard of service was good although I wouldn't call it 5*. A special mention however to Sebastian, our butler, who went out of his way to assist in anyway he could, especially when one of the children was ill. However, as has been mentioned in some of the other reviews, the wait for tables at some of the restaurants wasn't great and on occasions was over an hour resulting in missing the evening entertainment or other activities. We also had a few issues that need a mention: 1. After the first night we had to pay an upgrade to move rooms. Despite booking a preferred club room we were surprised by the standard of the initial room that was allocated. It had no outlook of either the pool or sea and was tight for space so much that there wasn't room for a small bed for our youngest child. The upgrade cost wasn't insignificant and this wasn't something we expected. 2. We had some money go missing from our room, this was only a few Dominican pesos so not a significant amount. However, when I reported this and made a point about how it broke the trust you place in hotel staff, this point was completely missed. Whether that was lost in translation, although the staff member it was reported to did speak good English, or whether it just wasn't consider significant due to the small amount, the response was disappointing. 3. We found the pool water, especially in the larger pool by the beach to be disgustingly dirty. After the kids were both ill, and then then the youngest came out with a whole body rash this really put a dampener on things and put us off wanting to swim in the pools at all. This was a shame as the pool setup itself was great especially with the swim-up bar. In conclusion, despite the negative points, we had a great holiday in the Dominican Republic, where the location was amazing with a white sandy beach and the sea incredibly warm and clear .

Had a great stay! Great hotel, comfortable rooms and I can't say enough about the people and the service. The staff really makes you feel like you're home. Shout out to Nelson for his amazing service on the Preferred Club Beach & to Ramon at the Preferred Club Beach Restaurant.

Small and quaint with nice hotel rooms, a beautiful pool, and great beaches. Unfortunately, the food was a major disappointment—I'd give it 1 out of 5. Dinner wait times were often at least an hour, the food quality was poor, and portions were surprisingly small. The restrictions at the French restaurants are also ridiculous. Requiring parties to be limited to two people per table, along with strict dress pants and shoe requirements, unnecessarily limits families and groups from enjoying the dining options. In reality, this leaves many families with only 3 of the 4 restaurants to choose from. And we did not want buffet food every night. The best meal we had was the hibachi restaurant, which was enjoyable and had much better food and service. Overall, while the property itself is beautiful and charming, the dining experience significantly impacted our stay. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this resort.

Awesome family-friendly resort. Buffet has lots of options. Restaurants have very good food. Hibachi was really good, Italian food was excellent as well; seafood Paella was amazing. A resort this large (and it is very large, bordering on humongous) really needs a Sports Bar/bowling alley. We've stayed at other Dreams that have offered this type of entertainment and it was a great way to break up some of the evenings.

We loved everything about the resort for our family. From our experience at the preferred check-in to everyone being so kind and happy. The absolute best thing about the resort was our butler, Ada. Even though we are not a family that needs much, she did anything we needed when we were in need of help like having another bed put in our room to just her checking in on us each morning. The only souring point of our vacation was a guy giving out towels in the morning at the pool that was not very nice. I believe his name was Gemiston. We got questioned everyday why we needed 4 towels when we had 4 people in our family. He needs more training on being professional, even brought it up with Ada and she spoke to him but he still questioned us each day after that. Overall the resort was clean and had lots of things to do and eat. I would recommend again.
